If people just knew how the body works. I say it all the time but nutrition should be taught at every grade level like math and english.

    OMG INTERNET SENSATIONALISM!

It's not child abuse to have a kid do a 3 day juice cleanse with you. Is it... unnecessary? Maybe... But a 3 day "cleanse" won't do irreparable damage.

I will agree though that it may create a poor relationship with food as a whole if it's a consistent thing in the wrong type of environment. But all this bleeding heart child abuse crap is hilarious.

That said, this is New York. People are rich and vain, and will spend $600 for a 3 day cleanse. Just reality.

This reminds of the vegan couple who starved their newborn to death because they refused to feed it much more than fruit and soy smoothies. They were convicted of murder.

    There is no fixing stupid.

As a mother of a 6 year old, I cannot even imagine telling my child they can only have juice, not food. There is no way the kids aren't hungry. Makes my heart ache to even think for kids going 3 days with no solid food.

I love the comments. Most are sane but my favorite is "the only people opposed to cleanses are fat and unhealthy'.

Did you read the article? I didn't see anything about a parent telling a child they can have only juice for 3 days.

Dherbs.com, a California-based company, markets a set of four Children’s Cleanse liquid extracts for $99 that are meant to be paired with a raw diet and promise “to nourish and cleanse” everything from the lungs and liver to the adrenals and colon. The program is aimed at kids ages 2 to 12, and can be customized for up to 14 days

    oh holy fkc sticks.

cleanses the lungs? seriously? how does a juice cleanse the lungs?

and how do these people sleep at night marketing this crap to TWO YEAR OLDS- FOR UP TO 14 DAYS!!!!

    wtfingfuk.

edit- how effing sad did those refrigerators look? I love the "clean" food comments- how processed is that expensive stuff they are cramming down their pie holes.

the article is about kids who WANT to do these cleanses with their mothers. It's not being forced.

Really? Are you being serious with that response?

So this is the same thing as my nephew seeing a toy commercials and wanting it? They see the ad for a juice cleanse and beg their mommies and daddies to let them give it a shot? A six year old doesn't WANT to do something like this unless an adult has told them they want to do it.

Of course they're just copying mommy. Have you spent any appreciable amount of time around children? Do you really thing what a child wants should be the deciding factor for what they do in their lives? If so, most kids would be dead before they reached the age of five if we gave them everything they wanted. One of the major parts of being a parent is keeping the little buggers from killing themselves because they aren't equipped to make decisions to do it themselves.

sigh. again. relax. and yes, I agree with you that children shouldn't get everything they want just because they want it. Obviously.

Do you always make assumptions about a person's state of relaxation when engaged in a discussion? It's not something you can just assume as evidenced by your inaccurate assumption with me. Maybe just have a back and forth of ideas based on the topic? It is possible, I assure you.

Which child in the article are you talking about? I didn't see anything about a 6 yo eating no solid food for 3 days.

lol no man, I'm usually up for a fight, but you're making one where there isn't one. none of the kids are being forced into it against their will, and like I said in my first post, if this is done consistently and in an unhealthy environment it could create a poor relationship with food. If it's just a one time thing because daughter wants to be like mommy, where's the harm?

that said, given that it's NYC, I'd be willing to bet it DOES fall under the unhealthy category.
  • This is how I see it, if anybody cares.... If a child will drink a fruit and veggie juice, then so be it. Feeding my kids veggies was such a task! However, I think it should be freshly juiced and not bottled. Also, it shouldn't be used as a cleanse but more as a beverage with their meal. My .02cents

I thought something similar as well. Those juices are probably a heck of a lot healthier than what most of their classmates are drinking at home.

if it was JUST juice that would be one thing- but this stuff is marketed through cleansing. That's why mommies doing it.

The 18 year old who dropped some weight- and immediately wanted to do another one for prom to drop more weight.

I understand the need to get kids to eat the full range of food- but this stuff isn't marked as food- it's cleansing crap- hence the stupid high price tag. I question any parent who does 5 days of juice cleansing and why they have kids. That sort of thing makes me wonder how we managed to survive as a species.

I agree, it's a very bad example for young women to drop weight quickly. I am highly against it for cleansing purposes. My daughter does a cleanse but it involves eating!
