Reading this post, I'm so freaking happy that I get along well with my In-Laws. (Edit: Though, his family is REALLY quiet. I always feel like a tornado when I go over to their house since I'm so loud and over enthusiastic haha. Bless their hearts for not gagging me and making me sleep outside)

Our situation was reversed for my husband. My husband and I are watching our calories and Robert told me to remind him not to take seconds while at my parent's house for dinner. When I went to remind him, my mom and dad got a little ornery and said something along the lines of: "HE'S A GROWING BOY!! Give your poor husband a break! Its just one more slice. Robert, here's another slice. And have some wings too."

Answer to the problem? After I gave myself time to calm down and when they saw that we were really committed to our calorie counting, I talked to them about it and they're much more understanding about our new "dietary restrictions" and were really supportive. After I eventually dropped 30lbs, my mom began eating healthier as well and now spam messages me about how many steps she got and how she can't figure out how to plug in her freaking fitbit. *sends mom a cyberhug*

This post has to be a joke...Really? YOu are 38 years old and afraid of telling your MIL that you don't want to eat too many carbs?

you've never met her... you might be scared too! anyone that can birth 7 children and not be completely insane is very intimidating

If they dish up, eat your meat and whatever low carb veg may be on the plate, push the potatoes around a little and spread them on the plate so they look at least 'tasted'.

I used to do this with my disgusting school cafeteria food, and it worked like a charm when my teachers inspected my plate to make sure I'd eaten something. Pro tip: spread the pieces over a wide area in small piles.

    All I read was "blah blah blah . . . ribs . . . blah blah blah . . . . Baconfest"

As far as MILs go . . . I got rid of mine years ago.

    ....how exactly?
