    I try to eat clean most of the time. I realize that I can eat more food by eating healthy and feeling more satisfied than when I eat a slice of pizza, burger etc. Also, I feel so much better physically (and less guilty). This doesn't mean that I stop eating food that I like (cheese).

    I like chicken breast, shrimp, whole wheat pasta, whole wheat bread, low fat milk, low fat cream cheese, cottage cheese, turkey breast, turkey burgers, sweet potatoes, zucchini, etc.

    I've cut out sugar completely and avoid processed foods, no bread, pasta, cookies, cake, tortillas. I don't eat potatoes, do eat sweet potatoes. Meats I'll eat lean ground turkey, chicken,turkey bacon and fish. I eat quinoa, black beans, lots of spinach, asparagus, avocado, tomatoes, pretty much any vegetables, no corn, and certain fruits: berries (not strawberries), grapefruit every day, I switch between decaf & caf coffee, lots of water, no juice. Do eat cheese, feta and blue in moderation.

    99.9% of the time I am a very clean eater but when those DAMN peeps come out or those jelly beans I usally turn into a very dirty eater!!! just give me the stale peeps and no one will get hurt!!!:laugh:

    Eats turkey bacon and decaffinated coffee but avoids processed foods.....

    My idea of clean eating would include organic, grass fed, GMO free. I could never afford it. If I ever win the lottery I'm going down one of two paths: Snobby clean eater who shops daily at Whole Foods, or fat, rich, happy witch (spelled with a B) who doesn't give a damn.

    Not sure which yet, if I ever win that lottery, I'll figure it out then. A dilemma I would love to have.
  • I only eat clean when I'm trying to lower my body fat, but when I eat at maintenance or when I''m bulking I eat whatever I want, the only exception is that I have replaced all my drinks with water. With maybe one actual fizzy drink/soda a week.
  • I don't eat clean completely. If I want that peri peri chicken lunch from Tesco, I'll have it as long as it fits my macros and calories goal.

    What does it mean to "eat clean"? I have seen this terminology on other posts too. Sorry, I'm pretty new here.

    Of course you can define clean eating for yourself! Trying to define it for others is problematic.

    Clean eating (for me) has to do with high food quality standards and an absence of food additives that exist solely to prolong the shelf life of the food. So it isn't an issue of avoiding any particular food (cheeseburgers, pasta, bacon, fried foods etc.), it is eating theses foods with as few industrial additives / processing as possible. So I may choose organic beef and cheese for my burger on a bun with 6-7 ingredients instead of 30, instead of a Big Mac or a Whopper, if convenience permits.

    I personally would have never thought that when the term "clean eater" was mentioned that it meant frozen foods from WW, LC, HC and what not. Yes the sodium content tends to be high but other then that the calorie counts are good. I eat them every now and again for lunch at work or an easy dinner at home.

    From what I have read as of now anyway eating "clean" is eating foods that have not had anything added or taken away from it.

    I personally am nno where near a "clean" eater and I am very happy that way, everything in moderation.

    Clean eater (well, for the most part)! I eat mostly lean meats, fresh fruits and vegetables. I snack on fat free popcorn and crackers when I'm in the mood and every once in awhile indulge in some chocolate. I do drink coffee in the morning (refuse to give that up) but rarely drink soda; I drink water all day. It was hard at first to change my eating habits, but now that I have, I feel better, have lost weight, and been able to keep it off.

    I use clean dishes and utensils and I wash my fruits and vegetables...so yeah I eat clean!

    I had a 'whole' 1750 calories of "Millionaire's cheesecake" last night.
    It was in the natural state for cheese cake, so clean?

    My diary is open for the OP, if you want to see what I eat. 4 cans of coke zero a day not listed because they're only 1.5 calories or so each.

    I'm currently around maintenance, building up to a lean bulk. Eating 500 calories more at the moment than I was on a deficit.

    By reading that, what is left to actually eat!


    If anything I eat more processed foods before. I love the Thinsations and Skinny Cow that a pack as something sweet for my lunch. They are lower in calories then my homemade cookies/brownies/cakes I make and probably a lot more processed.

    I apply an 80/20 rule to my eating. I definitely don't abide by some people's definition of clean eating. But I do eat wholesome, healthy foods and stay away from processed foods 80% of the time. My 20% is usually in cheese or wine. I'm kind of an everything in moderation person, but I do find boxed/frozen meals make me feel horrible after digesting. When I eat healthy foods (lean meats, poultry, fruits, veggies, legumes, whole grains) most of the time, and limit my eating out (Maybe 2 or 3 times a month) I feel better. This is just what works for me, I do not judge or dismiss anyone who eats differently or does what is good for them.

    I'm a dirty eater. I work on a campus with a cafeteria and if it fits in my plan for the day, I eat it. I also eat out a fair amount (not fast food, sit down restauarants) and have no problems with that.

    Worst of all - I had a frozen Stouffer's French Bread pizza last night for dinner. The horror!

    lol clean eating has noting to do with lowering body fat ..

    are you telling me you can't lose body fat while eating "dirty" foods in a deficit?

    I don't define my foods with unnecessary labels that can't be satisfactorily defined. It's too much work to stress over whether a food is clean or dirty.

    Take a taco salad. It's considered a dirty food. A very dirty food, but what is it really?

    Did mashing the beans make them less of a bean?
    Did shredding the lettuce make it less of a lettuce?
    Dicing the tomato?
    Mixing water into the corn masa to make the shell?
    Is it the ground beef?
    The pico or salsa?
    The shredded cheese?
    The extra hot sauce?
    The sour cream?
    How about the chili powder and cilantro?

    Individually, these items are consumed by people who call themselves "clean eaters" all the time. But combine them, and they're suddenly evil. This is just an example. You can deconstruct a pizza, a cheeseburger, or any number of foods and the definition changes.

    I've cut out sugar completely and avoid processed foods, no bread, pasta, cookies, cake, tortillas. I don't eat potatoes, do eat sweet potatoes. Meats I'll eat lean ground turkey, chicken,turkey bacon and fish. I eat quinoa, black beans, lots of spinach, asparagus, avocado, tomatoes, pretty much any vegetables, no corn, and certain fruits: berries (not strawberries), grapefruit every day, I switch between decaf & caf coffee, lots of water, no juice. Do eat cheese, feta and blue in moderation.
    Eats turkey bacon and decaffinated coffee but avoids processed foods.....

    Nope - still confused!!

    I eat a wide variety of foods. I'd guess that roughly 2/3 of them would fit my definition of "clean".

    I absolutely eat clean, 100% of the time.

    Because it's a made up term that varies from person to person. So I just say I eat clean. Then I go to Subway or Burger King or whatever I want. Have some ice cream for dessert, pour some candy on top of it with fudge. Really anything.

    Pissing off food Nazis is a blast.
