I... uh.. ran today! Didnt even think about it. Where I had to go grab something was a little farther than I would like away and I just started running.. half way there I realized what I was doing and though holy crap. I've lost 50 lbs in the last 3 months(still 150 till goal) and have noticed other more predictable changes, but that really shocked me!25

GaleHawkins wrote: »Starting at age 63 I have been walking at least 1/4 of a mile a day since back in 2014 down and back up a steep hill. About a month ago I read walking backwards can help balance and prevent/recover mental decline so I started to do 100 steps backwards. Balance has improved walking forward and backwards. Today I was even able to jog backwards for 30 steps. In 2014 it took longer because I would have to rest 10-15 times to catch my breath.
How interesting - also 63 and keen to maintain balance!1 -
@motivatedmartha it sure is better to maintain balance instead of losing it like I did and have to work to get it back. The root cause of falling seems to start with muscle mass losses for most over the age of 50 and beyond. While there can be many factors the lack of eating enough protein seems to be a key factor that can be addressed by diet. Since I stopped eating foods containing added sugars and or any form of any grain in 2014 I have not fallen down which I was doing from time to time as my health was cratering. I do understand my "fix" may or may not be a great option for others but my n=1 testing has proven it works for me very well.
Naturally the joints fusing on their own over the last 40 years was a huge factor in my health decline but now I understand the Ankylosing Spondylitis in my case was due to my old Way Of Eating for the most part because over the past 5 years the Ankylosing Spondylitis fusing of my spine and other joints is starting to reverse slowly.
Now that I am getting some muscles in my legs and the rest of my body balance is no longer a fear factor for me. Learning that we can develop new brain cells at most any age has been encouraging to experience. Getting my energy from protein and fat instead of mainly carbohydrates has been a health changing factor for the better. I am starting to see the physical and mental health gains from walking backwards can be huge for me. Since now I can walk forward for as long as I wish I decided to try the backwards thing. 5 years ago it would have been unsafe for me to try to walk backwards because walking forward required me to give it thought.
Best of continued success.8 -
I didn't drink any alcohol last night.33

I went to a bachelorette party this last weekend. I am about 10 years older than the rest of the bridal party, and the only one with kids. So I was feeling a little self conscious. But for one of the party card games everyone had to see who was the strongest girl and have a little push up competition. I WON BY A LANDSLIDE!!!! All the other girls were dropping out and I wasn't even starting to feel the burn yet. And my push up form was on point! I was so amazed at how strong I had become.42

I went lingerie shopping today. My bra is now same cup, but two sizes smaller chest.18

Got my routine bloodwork back, a1c is still 4.9! That makes two years of having my levels consistently at normal non-diabetic levels. The student who took down my weight and asked what I was in for said, “Oh, I wouldn’t have guessed you were diabetic, are you type 1?” She was shocked when I told her that I weighed nearly 300 lbs when I was diagnosed. My doctor says she wishes she could trot me out as an example of what diet and exercise can accomplish for her other diabetic patients.46

Why can't she, with your permission? Just think, you could inspire others and make a positive contribution to your local community
Congratulations, by the way!19 -
Looking in the mirror this morning and seeing that I again have collar bones.25

Haven’t had a nsv in awhile as I’ve backslidden over the winter, but I’ve had a great week with eating finally. Nsv being that out to dinner for a party I ate half of what my normal fish dinner would be, and happily passed on dessert. Hope this feeling continues.19

Beyond ecstatic today! Lost another dress size even though the scale said I only lost only 1/4 lb. All my old clothes fit now. Happy weekend!!!30

When we are losing inches and not pounds shows we are eating the right things at this time in our lives typically. I thought people were making fun of me being obese when they would say something about my weight loss when I knew I had not lost a pound in a long time. Went home and looked in the mirror and saw my fat face had melted away without me knowing it. I did not know one could lose fat and not pounds at the same time at that point in time. Best of continued success @sueann1022

I went hiking for the first time today. It was a small hike (one of the foothills of the Adirondacks), but I finished it. I was huffing and puffing while we did it, but I'm not even that sore tonight. I'd have never done this almost 50lbs ago.22

seltzermint555 wrote: »I posted earlier but I had a better NSV on my lunch break. Today I wore a pair of red jeans to work in a 16...they were kind of baggy, but I thought it would be fine for Friday at work which is very casual and pretty active. They looked horrible after about 1 hr of wear. So when I went home on my lunch break, I grabbed the red jeans from my "will fit someday" section of the closet (a new thing for me). They're a size 12. I've only fit into a few of those so far, still mostly in 14's but that was pretty cool!DivineChoices wrote: »I've had a couple recently.
-Being able to pull my "skinny" size 24 jeans up over my bum!! Still need to go a bit before I can button them up, but yay!!!
-Being able to wear my Dad's wristwatch - I couldn't clasp it 8 months ago.
-A shirt that I couldn't wear is now wearable but really tight. Progress!!seltzermint555 wrote: »I just realized this week, that 90% of my old clothes are really too big to even get by wearing anymore. Its to the point now where they are just looking stupid. Guess thats a good "problem" to have
Seriously love that feeling!
I interviewed for my current job last August wearing this top that I thought was super cute & figure-flattering, it was a short sleeve shirt since the weather was like 100 degrees and of course I had to pair it with a suit type outfit. Anyway, the other day was our first REALLY warm Spring day so I thought I would pull it out and wear it. I knew the shirt would be baggier on me but I thought it would be okay. WRONG. I looked wretched, like somebody's grandmother in a flowy tunic (and I don't mean a hip youngish grandma either). LOL Tossed it in the donation box.

The new size 6 jeans I bought. I was in 14’s a few months ago and still can’t believe it!20

Managed a 52 mile ride today, towing my daughter on her bike-a-long, riding a vintage road bike. And I looked hella thin in the picture I took of us. So pleased!20

Went bike riding last weekend with my husband and 9-year-old granddaughter. A section of the bike path has about 6 stairs to go up before the regular path continues. I went up first and was able to carry my bike easily. As in fully lift and carry it up the stairs. While husband was helping the 9-year-old I went to get his bike, which is a lot heavier. Was able to lift and carry it, too! Not easily but I did it. The strength training is working!19

My nsv today I felt “sexy” today when I saw a picture of me taken today and had it side by side with a picture from January 2019. I was even able to fit in an old pair of jeans that I haven’t been able to wear for years now!
Boy what a difference I can see and feel, I still have more work to do but sure proud of what I have done so far.28 -
I'm further into a workout program than I can ever remember getting (nearly finished!)19

A few months ago, I found a beautiful Talbots silk dress for $1 at a thrift shop, size 8 (I've never been that small). I wanted to try to fit into it for our 30th anniversary in May, so I kicked up my workouts. On our anniversary, I tried it, and it fit!33

I went into a clothing store to buy some new clothes today (I cleaned out my dresser/closet of everything that's too big and was left with almost nothing). I asked the young woman working there if they had any pants in tall (I'm 6'). She said that they only had one pair in the store because they were a return from an online order, but that they'd be "WAY too big" for me. They were the size I wore in February. This was before she'd asked my size, or helped me find anything. It made my day.17

Mothers Day hard on me, this year better, I have just learned to accept some things. Daughter and Mom are not close to me but it sure was good to wear my clothes this morning loose, I say rise above and make your life good in spite of what you have got! I also picked up bag of M&Ms and only ate 4 of them, who knew that could satisfy, put rest in freezer, yes proud of me!19

I've joined a gym and started going 4 times a week.
Already my fitness is improving and I can work much harder on the rower & cross trainer.
Also went shopping for a suit for my wedding. I was able to buy a tailored fit rather than a regular.
One day it will be slim fit!
Top top it off a SV this week as i'm no longer obese too.16 -
I bought my very first crop top the other day.14

I've had 2 people at the gym ask me how much weight I've lost.15

"Morbidly obese" was marked on my health record as "resolved" last week. Weight no longer appears as an open issue on the profile. Victory! BMI from 46 to 22.7 with jeans and shoes on. Boom!63

Bought my first pair of leggings in a regular store, not plus sized. 🙌24
