I just finished Whole 30 and 1 round of 21 Day Fix and I'm down 11 inches this month! I don't know if that's a lot or a normal change for a months work, but I'm happy! I've decided to extend my Whole 30 for another 15 days at least and then I will actually weigh in but overall I:
- Am sleeping great and waking up before my alarm feeling rested
- have consistent energy throughout the day
- have broke my food cravings. Seriously amazing- my husband opened a bag of chips next to me (normally my kyrptonite) and I had no desire for them!
- had way less pms / TOM issues
- essentially has cut out all bloating
I have been interested to try this. Did you change calorie intake at all?
Hey @alexmose so one of the "rules" to the program is not to track your intake otherwise, and not to weigh or measure yourself for the whole month. I think the concept is to try to get people to understand and respond appropriately to hunger signs, stopping when full, and focusing on health and her they feel etc instead of numbers. So I can't tell you exactly what I was at for the month because I didnt weigh my food. Out of curiosity, I did track some days of intake to see where my macros were at and generally I was averaging my suggested intake of 1400. (Some days were 1800, some were 1200 etc depending on the day). I know it's possible to overeat even within this stricter WOE, but for me I have always lost far more successfully following this than other WOE. (Side note : Whole 30 is not marketed as a weight loss program - it's just that many end up losing while eating this way) Just a personality preference I guess - Im better following a strict program to "get into the swing of things" and kick start good habits. One big benefit is that it breaks my cravings for foods that historically I can't just eat in moderation (chips). So once the unreasonable cravings are home, I AM able to have some in a more reasonable and controlled way. Just my experience. The program isn't meant to be followed long term but I'm going to do it for maybe 45 or 60 days and then switch to a Paleo style diet which is essentially a more relaxed version. I'm enjoying the food and not finding it too hard.
Typically I will lose 9-12 lbs per month (probably 3-5 lbs is water weight) when I do a Whole 30. Based on how my clothes fit, I would say that's what I lost this round but will check officially at the end of the month.3 -
My husband asked me today "Are these new shorts?" Me "Nope." Him "Maybe you should think about donating them. They look overly baggy." First I loved that he checked my mood on the shorts before criticizing them. Second I love that they are baggy because I bought them last summer a touch snug (but as I was working on losing weight). I looked in the mirror and he's definitely right - they aren't flattering at all anymore.27

My friend did this and did really well. It is a bit strict for me but whatever works. I do low carb, 100gr or less and that is my thing. But I do have cravings at times.3 -
I've had four separate people lately mention how much thinner my face looks.18

This is my 12th day in a row recording all of my food in MFP. I feel really good mentally and physically.
I’m committed to not eating after 7 pm. That is a miracle. Tracking everything is really helping me to keep the commitment!

I finally only have 1 chin again. It bothered me the most out of my weight gain (looked like 2-3 depending on the angle). Ready to keep shredding !23

Today I squeezed back into my size 14 jeans. Last year at this time I was in an 18, and when I re-started myfitnesspal in early March I was a 16. I think I'm really back on the wagon.29

I ran almost 3.7 miles all on the beach with a dawg that kept trying to chase after birds and still finished in under an hour.
Also had a pretty strong head wind to contend with.27 -
My muffin top will now tuck into my jeans. I'm not thin or anything, and it'll take surgery to take the skin off, but I think I just got a vague hint of my waist for the first time in about thirty years.33

Today I discovered that I accidentally bought medium compression shorts instead of large. They fit.
Tried on my teenage son’s size 32 shorts. They fit.22 -

This is a great NSV, I also find I do a lot better when I record everything. Makes me more mindful.

My blood pressure is back to normal!
Completely stopped buying outside food and no more sugary drinks from starbucks!31 -
Had to fix a leak under the kitchen sink today and I could fit under the sink to do the work! A year ago it would have been a miserable time.27

My summer shorts last year...size 42 stretch waist and I was busting out of them. This year, my shorts are size 34 with plenty of room to spare.

I can step up onto a kitchen chair without grabbing hold of anything for support.23

Walked 5.08 miles in 1:23:15 ave. pace 16:23 with my dog today in the virtual RonaRunOff. Event miles of each participant will be aggregated and, for every 50 miles, a pair of shoes will be donated to an area healthcare or janitorial worker. I had the opportunity to nominate my hubby for the shoes. I hope he gets selected!20

Rode my bike over to visit my trainer, who owns a local barbell gym. She won’t let her “senior” clients come back til June 1, but I miss her. She put a photo of me and bike on Facebook. My daughters saw it and sent me a screenshot. I couldn’t believe how slim I looked.
It was like something snapped in my brain seeing that photo, and I no longer see the fat person in the mirror. That fat woman has stared back at me relentlessly since I started this in late 2018.
For whatever reason, now I see “me”. I keep going and standing in front of the mirror, turning side to side, expecting to turn fat again, I guess.
Yoga studio opened back up to limited capacity yesterday. I bought some gorgeous yoga leggings several months ago, but forgot the top was a bra top I’d bought on a lark, because it was on sale. I started to put it back in the drawer. Too much exposed skin for comfort. Thought “Well, WTF not?”
Instructor looked at me and blurted out,”Damn, you’re the only person I know who looks hotter after quarantine than before!”
If it weren’t a social distance violation, I would have hugged her. This “senior” sincerely appreciated that.
This whole “senior” thing just kills me, in case you’re wondering. Senior, my *kitten*!!!!!

So I am a young adult and this middle-aged man and I always lift next to each other at like 6am. He has given me tips once before but he asked if he could give me tips for my deadlift.
I’m like ya duh I don’t have video I need an outside perspective. So he gave me some tips and then goes ‘hey since you’re lifting such heavy weight, you might consider a weight belt’. He thinks I lift heavy ❤️ at least for my size haha he picked up my barbell w one arm lmaooo18 -

Hiking and climbing 5km up this *kitten* of a cliff/trail with my 6 year old.
I tried it 2 years ago and didnt even get 1km into it before giving up.
Pretty sure it's more grit and stubbornness than anything but it's done and I plan to do it again this fall.30 -
Oh dear lord!!!!!! I get vertigo just looking at that. Your six year old impresses me as much as you do.
Two summers ago the ladies formed a little
neighborhood bike club to ride around on Tuesday evenings. We’d do the bike path and the beautiful historic neighborhoods.
I was so ashamed (and “ashamed” is exactly the right word here). I couldn’t get up a long mild hill. I had to walk my bike up and everyone had to wait for me. I felt like the fat failure holding everyone back. They even (considerately) assigned someone to me to make sure I got home ok and she had to ride in back to keep an eye on me.
My husband and I have started riding bikes in the afternoon during quarantine. We did the full loop yesterday, which includes several steep hills and that long mild slope I couldn’t get up.
I was still smarting over the ride a couple of years ago and was determined. I don’t know why I had this in my head as a goal, but I did it yesterday.
I did the entire 8 miles without changing gears up (down?) on my 7-speed cruiser.
And, my husband, who is considerably older than me, has improved to the point he no longer has to get off his bike to complete the loop. That made it even more special.38 -

That's great progress. I'm sure it felt AWESOME at the top of that hill. But why not use the gears? That's what they are for! Biking is fun.5 -
Because, in my head, I used all the gears, even the one where you do the itty bitty pedalling and still failed shamefully and miserably. So to do it without the gears was a thumb in the nose at “former me”.
I thrive on mind games inside my head. I conquered something in there.
From now on, gears are welcome tools.
Man, I didn’t realize how much I enjoyed bicycling. It’s like being a little kid again. I get this big sloppy grin on my face and can’t stop smiling, from beginning to end. I bet I look like a happy lunatic.15
