Its okay, just not much fun.

Older women who don't exercise often have to drop that low to lose weight.

It might be sustainable but I would hazard that mentally most might end up busting out.

Of course we could survive on it but hey, its not much fun a year down the track.

Enjoy, then. Meanwhile I'll keep eating my 1,800 a day and still lose weight.

Eff that; you're just saying that so other people eat more and stay fat.

In other words, you're pure evil

Honestly, I did it. I lost 82 lbs after my first baby on 1200 (gross, not net, and I worked out a whole lot, too). I was hungry a lot and was burnt out after a year. Who knew that using IPOARM I could eat so much more and still lose?

    Edited for typo

Did you even read the article?

The conclusion is not that 1200 calories is okay. The conclusion is that there is no state of 100% metabolic shutdown known as starvation mode.

    Reading comprehension. Try some!

OP's link is actually explaining why the internet-version of "Starvation mode" is bullsh*t. Think she was suckering in those who believe in it. Guessing not actually supportive of 1200 calorie diets unless I am misinterpreting her point in posting that.

I think she might be trying to lure in those who think 1200 cals is okay...either that or yeah, the reading comprehension thing.

Yes, starvation mode the way it is often used is a myth.

What do you have for dietary adherence issues, loss of lean mass, inadequate fat/protein, and mental health?

Also, even if it's "okay" from a metabolic standpoint, why would you want to?

    This.

Although the article doesn't even say it's ok from a metabolic standpoint., it just says that 40% metabolic shutdown (observed in cited studies) is not the same as 100% metabolic shutdown.

    So. Still not ok.
