I like having boiled potatoes. I don't have butter on them though.
I like having salad, peas, green beans, sweet potato, and other vegetables with mine.0 -
Salad, sauteed greens, steamed or roasted carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, or asparagus, (almost any veggie, steamed or roasted would be low calorie), pilaf (rice or quinoa), beans,...etc. Anything your little heart desires.0

Potatoes are fine...I get the fries in the frozen section and bake them. Or a baked potato. Try a side salad, broccoli, rice, collard greens, cabbage.0

Make fish tacos.... corn tortillas (fairly low calorie), shredded lettuce or cabbage, a little salsa mixed with a little lowfat sour cream.
Fish tacos are an EXCELLENT idea! I put a little cheese, pico, avocado and cilantro on mine Serve with a side of black beans and vegetable medley of green beans, yellow squash, zucchini and red bell peppers.0 -
I know you have gotten many great suggestions and mine is amongs those who already posted but here is some friendly advice. Always remember that the numbers on MFP is often added by any of us. You should always check the ingredients on the exact food your eating and make sure it matches the one you pick on MFP before adding it. I learned this one day when I was trying to add an avacado, I had 3 different numbers and had to look online for the correct one. My other suggestion is, if you love your patato, enjoy it! Baked patato's are at least healthy in moderation. Perhaps enjoy them once or twice a week and have fun with some of the suggestions.
Good luck!0 -
I guess the calorie count here isn't right then..
You should weigh the potatoes to see how many grams the kinds that you consider medium are. The calorie counts I see for medium range from 170 to 260 gs, so you might be thinking of much smaller potatoes. They are only 75 or so calories for 100 gs.
Anyway, I think fish goes great with lentil and asparagus, or really any vegetables. The lentils aren't going to be any lower cal than the potatoes, but you can have a smaller portion along with the vegetables (same with potatoes, which I love--this seems to be potato day on MFP).0 -
Spinach. I love spinach.0

Puy lentils and spinach. I had that tonight with chicken breast...lovely!0

Grilled veggies. I season and bake broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, and asparagus. When I make salmon, I put it in a salad with veggies and light dressing.0

I usually do steamed veggies and brown rice.0

I grill summer squash and zucchini in a panini pan and usually eat it with cod, salmon, or tilipia. One of my favorite dishes. Don't need potatoes all the time. Even rice goes well with fish.0

I would substitute chicken for fish and eat the potato.
because potatoes and chicken are yummy and fish is not.0 -

Well, potatoes aren't too bad if you bake one and eat it with the skin on. Use Greek non-fat yogurt and chives as topping. Other options:
Corn salad:
3-4 ears fresh yellow or white corn on the cob - quickly blanch in salted water (abt 2-3 min) and cut off kernels.
1 box cherry or grape tomatoes, sliced in half
1/4 red onion, diced
1 bunch basil, torn or jullianned
chopped Italian flat leaf parsley
salt, pepper, garlic powder to taste
1 ounce crumbled feta
1/2 cup red wine vinegar
1/4 cup olive oil
1 teaspoon dijon mustard
Or
Whole wheat couscous
Brown rice
small baked yam
baked acorn squash
steamed zucchini
Whole wheat penne tossed w/ chopped steamed veggies and 1 ounce feta
MY FAVE:
roasted root veggies:
4-6 small red and gold beets, skinned and cut in quarters
1 small yam, skinned and cut in slightly larger pieces than the beets
handful of brussell sprouts cut in half
1 large carrot, cut in large chunks
1 parsnip, cut same as carrot
Place all, except beets in 13 x 9 casserole dish and spray or toss with a bit of olive oil, salt, pepper and dried thyme. Then add the beets.
Bake 375 oven, stirring occasionally until browned and done, abt 35-45 min.0 -
I wanted to add that you can eat a small baked potato topped with fresh chunky salsa. It's under 200 calories and filing! Or top your baked pot with non fat cottage cheese, green onion and ground turkey or chopped veggies for dinner. It's not bad for you!0
