I use to eat peanut butter while back when dieting/eating healthy etc to lose weight and was losing slowly but quiet well 45+ lbs...... then maintained it for a couple of years but recently I had gained back 10+ so got back on to watching my diet and exercising again but didnt think of adding peanut butter, just simply ate other healthy options etc. and have been losing avg. 1 /wk
Then...
Just the other day while talking to my friend who is also dieting/exercising and losing quiet well steadily(1.5 - 2lbs), she has been eating PB in the morning on half english muffin every morning which I used to. So I kind of craved it and added it back to my diet and guess what? Iost 2.3 lbs this wk.
Is it because of peanut butter??? because my other diet and exercise routine stayed same.... didnt change much. One more thing is that I hadnt lost much previous week (0.8 lb only) is it because of that or is it really PB? cant figure it out but would like to know if anyone else ever analyzed any such thing??? because PB can be high in cals and fat and not easy to add to my diet all the time becasue it takes away my previllige to enjoy other fatty food through out the day such as having a cheese in my sand and dressing with the salad

In my opinion....................peanut butter sticks to your ribs and makes you feel fuller longer, so you could be on to something.......but even if it isn't true, but works for you.................keep on going baby!:bigsmile:0
-
I don't know if it's true, but I do eat a lot of PB now...I didn't even LIKE it until I started losing weight. So weird!0
-
not sure if it is true but i know peanut butter has a lot of protein...0

I noticed that whenever I eat peanut butter on 1/2 slice of low carb toast as an evening snack, the next day the scale says a lower number. WhenI stopped eating the peanut butter at night and did not eat after 8pm for a couple of weeks the scale would not move. I noticed that just this morning. I don't know why this happens but I am ok with the results!0

I think I need to buy me some peanut butter.....0

I stick with Almond Butter but if this is working for you guys FANTASTIC.
Here's an article on just this very thing

Ya know the first part of my MFP journey I had a a PB&J everyday and I was losing weight. So, I think I will have to reintroduce it into my diet.0

I agree with the "sticks to your ribs" comment, and also want to point out that nuts are an excellent source of monounsaturated fats--which studies have shown to be very helpful in losing belly fat! Prevention Magazine's "belly fat diet" materials always have you eating things like nuts, nut butters, avocados and olive oil. So, as long as you don't dive into the jar face first and eat more than you should, nuts and nut butters are an excellent addition to your diet. And they really do make you feel a little decadent, don't they?0

really??? cause i love PB!!! ok, gonna start adding it into my diet more often.0

that is the funny thing Karen that it doesnt happen with almond butter (even though I like the taste of almond butter much better)0 -
I like to put PB on my toast in the mornings but do not do it everyday. Going to to start doing that every day and see if it makes a difference0

I love peanut butter! I eat it a lot for bedtime snack. For me though, the fat & calorie content is too high to justify the health benefits. With only 7g of protein, PB&J doesn't compare to a tuna or deli sandwich.0

that is the exact reason why I dont want to add it on my daily menu if there is no real value to it.0 -
Going to have to try it as a snack before bed. I love PB and celery!0

Peanut butter is a great source of protein and is also considered to be "good fat". Like just about anything else, if taken in moderation, it won't be bad for you. The idea of a bit of PB on a piece of whole wheat bread or a muffin is a great idea for breakfast or even possibly after a work out.0

I eat a piece of high fiber bread with almond butter on it in the morning before I go work out but my recent favorite afternoon snack is an apple with 1 T of peanut butter. OMG sooo good-it's crazy I'm loving it so much! Don't know if it's doing anything to my weight loss, but I'm still losing.0
-
It's worth a try! Everyone is different, so it very well could be working with your body... kinda weird, but definitely something to look into. Neat!0

I wonder if you can get the same effect with raw peanusts...... just a thought0
-
really peanut butter if eaten in sensible portions is not bad for you. I tend to use natural pb, so it doesn't have additives and sugar like normal stuff does. Its a good source of healthy fats as well as protein. I think its a good food. And satisfying.0

I am gonna have to start eating PB again!
I wasn't avoiding it, but just haven't been choosing it lately.0 -

sounds so good. I am soooooooo trying it tomorrow. (already had my share of pb today,lol.)0 -

Raw peanuts would be good for you (probably better than peanut butter) as peanut butter has a high amount of sugars.
1tbsp a day is ususally all that will give you health benefits (well this is for me and i'm 5'7" and 170lbs)
opt for things like almonds, brazil nuts, walnuts. GREAT for you!0 -
PEANUTTTTTTTTTTT BUTTTTER!!!!!!!!!! I gained 10 pounds eating jars of peanut butter! cant have that around my house!! dont know how to resist eating the whole jar, LUV THAT STUFF!!! lol0
-
i like to mix one table spoon of peanut butter into oatmeal!! SOOOOOO GOOD. i have wanted to try sunflower seed butter (i've had it once at a friend's house, was pretty good!) but i have to get through my costco size peanut butter jar first, haha. plus i got a free jar of peanut butter last i visited my moms house so i have tons on hand!0
-
I LOOOOOOVE PB. I love it on toast, apples, bagles....Mmmmm....I also sometimes put a teaspoon of it in my oatmeal....reminds me of my fav kinda cookies....PB no bakes....*sigh* lol. I like it for breakfast cause it seems to keep me full longer. It is one of those foods that makes me feel content and happy0
-
PB is awesome! Still hate how high the calories are, but I eat it a tbsp once a day. Either on a banana or on celery. Good in oatmeal too! My friend eats cereal then has a large spoonful of PB afterward. LOL!0
-
I love crunchy peanut butter on a rice cake with sugar free strawberry jam! I also like just the peanut butter on the chocolate rice cakes...YUM!!!0

Peanut butter is actually a very healthy food if you eat it in moderation so you don't overdo your fat grams or calories.
As far as being the sole cause of your weight loss, I am not sure about that. It might just be that you have gotten to that point where you have stopped gaining lean muscle muscle and started dropping pure fat (normally happens in the middle of a new exercise regimen) and thus you saw a drop on the scale. It also might mean that you pushed harder than usual on your workouts. I don't believe there is any one super fat loss inducing food out there, but as I said before, peanut butter is full of healthy fats and some protein. Have it in moderation as part of your diet, and enjoy the tasty fat loss.0 -

There are some lower calorie pb out there. I slap that badboy on one of those cute 70 calorie a slice bread. As a vegetarian, pb and banana sandwiches are like my lifeblood haha. I've lost 9 pounds in 3 weeks, but I've just started, so it could be all that junk/water weight too.
