I cannot get into safe mode. As soon as it hits the microsoft setting 32 config something or another it stops and goes black and then the corrupt or missing file shows.
I am so glad my son had testing today. I get to use his laptop. Pretty sad when your son has a nicer computer than you.

Well sorry to hear you didn't get the house but yeah the upside is you did learn about the process. My husband and Iactually have built our house with the help of a few friends. It is still not finished but like me it is a work in progress and pretty soon I hope to have a new tile kitchen floor. The hard part about building your own is you do get tired of building before you are done.  Last year we put a combination deck and porch on it. But it will be years before we have it the way we want because we started when the kids were small and ran out of money, then came college, still no money, now my hubby's retired and he makes more than when he really worked.  But were not as young as we used to be so it takes twice as long to get something done. But what a workout. But I guess I will just be watching most of the kitchen floor going in because ceramic tile is heavy and I can't really do that with my back right now. I bet my hubby would let me put the grout in though.See it's and endless viscious cylcle. Banks you are definately better off buying a house, I wish I had now:bigsmile:

Haha, Banks, you're a good sport. When my brother in law is home or any of my other computer geek friends, they get peeved if anyone asks them anything about computers. Like "omg! don't exploit my knowledge! I'm busy playing WoW can't you SEE?!?!"

Sorry for the delay, was at our Colocation removing a giant Database server (yuck, it was like 150 lbs)
Anyway, Renee, I have some bad news for you, unless you know a puter guy that I can talk geek speak too, you're going to have to call in the squad. This is fixable, but you need to boot to a windows xp cd (this is XP right?) and go into recovery console on the CD and do some copying that way. It sucks, but it's the only way to do it. You basically find the last system restore (this is for a geek that you have, either hired or a friend) on the hard drive

here is the Microsoft KB article on how to do it:

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/307545

Make sure they know that this KB only loads a fresh blank system registry hive, after you do it and can log into windows again, they need to go to the System restore gui and restore to the last recovery point!
and then they need to reboot the machine into the recovery console again and do a chkdsk /r on the windows drive to look for any drive issues.
AND then they need to download the tool from the manufacturer of your hard drive to do a drive diagnostic test (whether it's Maxtor, or Western Digital, or Seagate...etc)
Until they do these steps it's not done. ALL of these steps should take them no longer then an hour and a half, tell them at the outset.
You should also buy a new hard drive and have them ghost an image from your old drive to your new AFTER they fix it. (I would buy the drive first though, so you can hand it to them and say here you go, ghost my old HD while you are here)

    you get all that?

just print out this email and hand it to the guy.

You should tell whoever comes on the phone that they need a Windows XP CD (unless you have yours), probably a floppy or two, and some kind of hard drive imaging software for cloning disks.

Nope, but I did set up the Chat room. It uses the same technology though (AJAX). I'm not a website guy, I'm too graphically inept for that stuff (I don't have the creativity gene, or the artistic gene).
For anyone who wants to know, I'm a Database guy, also an MCSE (if you don't know, google it). I'm also studying for my CCNA at the moment.

My former life I had my own consulting business called Expert Business Systems, I had it for about 4 years but got really sick and tired of the copious amounts of paperwork you need to do to run your own business (Massachusetts is BRUTAL) So I dissolved it. Now I maintain big big networks, but when I had my own business, I fixed stuff like this all the time, never fun, but you get pretty good at it after 5 years of doing it.

    Banks,
Thank you so much for all the computer help. You are awesome and a great teacher. I think I found somebody to do it for me on a trade. I will do Notary for him for the next 6 months in exchange for him fixing it. He is a retired computer person. He works on The Whitney Foundations computers.
Thanks for all the infor above. I just hope all my pictures are safe. Yes, it is a XP.
One for thing, if you ran for president, I would vote for you!!!!!
Sorry about the house. We were just outbid the same. We put a bid in on a foreclosed 2.5 acre land with a 2200 square foot house. $250,000 was our bid-bank asking price-sold for $260,000. There will be more.

My pleasure dear. Let me know if he has any questions on this. I'm ok with the house thing, wife is worse, but I'm ok. We all have to lose once in a while, rather it be something like this where I know I'm not an expert then lose at something I can't ever do again :). We were the same. We bid $330 on that house, I think the winning bid was $332K. :explode:
If we only knew. It had a beautiful inground pool.

Look in your local paper under default properties (if they post them like they do here) Our friend got a great deal on a home here in town. People were $6000 behind and owed $210 for the home. He got by paying the $6000 and took over assumed loan. house is valued at over $300 and is in amazing condition.
Just let her know that the right house will come along and the interest rate is getting better and better.
