I'm so excited because I ran 6 miles today with the kids in the stroller this morning (90lbs including 2 kids and stroller). There were a ton of hills and it was awesome. I burnt 560cals in exactly 60 minutes!!
The kids are being so good, they came out of the stroller saying how much fun they had. I know I'm running a little faster than last year but I guess it's making a difference to them.
Anybody else get a good run in today?

Thanks everyone!!
I think I'm starting to get obsessed with running. I feel unbelievable while running and I feel fantastic after. Without those extra 20lbs, my knees aren't hurting at all! Big ups for me!!
I'm in the process of trying to convince my neighbors to run with me at 5:30am. I'm not having much success. lol
Ali106, I know the kids can be so motivating at times. They literally yell at me if I slow down. lol
Celeste15, you'll be at 10 miles before you know it. That's what I love about running, you improve so quickly every time you hit the pavement or the treadmill.
Banks, pmkelly and Shannon, have fun on your runs!!
Enjoy the rest of the day!0 -
Girl you inspired me today....lol my son came down w/ a fever after school poor baby...I was gonna take him out for a jog, but my mother inlaw who rocks said to go and she'll stay w/ him...he's fine now...God bless tylenol!!! ANYWAY I ran 3.5 miles w/ killer hills sans child and jogger in 29 mins!!! I was shocked I've been doing about 10 min miles lately so woo hoo!!
thanks for making me think about it! I love to get up at 5:30am and run, wish we were closer I'd come with! lol

How did everyone else do?0 -

I cannot wait for these crazy pollen days to be over!! Running in the rain, that sounds so refreshing right now!!!
We have 7 year old boys with "issues" in common, we should talk in the chat room about our experiences one day.0 -
I try to run everyday. I love the New Balance commercial that talks about running and how it's a love/hate relationship. That's me, I hate the ritual of preparing myself to run, yet once I get out there I'm good, then half way thru I hate it want it to be over with, then I'm loving it thinking I've already done over 2 miles what's a couple more. Then I'm done and so glad and on the days I don't get to run I'm crabby as heck. :laugh:0

What do all you runners do pre-run? Food, stretching, rituals, etc. Be specific!!0

On days I weight train I do my weights before I run. On just running days I stretch for a good 5 minutes(hams, calves arms, everything). The only rituals i have is making sure my hair will not be in my face-One scrunchee, one headband and 2 barettes just to make sure and of course the IPOD.0 -

Great job everyone!
I normally jog in the mornings too and I'll eat a banana about 1 hour before my run. If I eat anymore than that I feel heavy and off. I also try to drink some water before running. But that sometimes works against me cuz then I have to pee half way, ugh!
When I took my running course, they told me not to stretch too much before a run because our muscles aren't warm enough and we could cause more damage than good. That was a really hard adjustment. Now, I'll start by walking for 5 minutes (basically to end of my street) and start running pretty much immediately. I do all my stretching at the end of my run.
I always bring a water bottle with me, sometimes I drink, sometimes I don't. Also, I always plan ahead how far I'm going to run or lately how many calories I want to burn. lol

Do you run every day too? I don't think my knees would forgive me. I find that if I wait a couple days in-between runs then I run stronger.0 -

No, I don't run everyday, although some weeks I would love to. I try to get in at least 3 runs a week (one of those being by myself with no children). :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:0 -
I've never been a jogger - what's a good way to get started if I were to want to try it?0

I've never been a jogger - what's a good way to get started if I were to want to try it?
First, get good running shoes.
And I know there's a program where you run 1 minute, walk 1 minute, run 2 minutes, walk 2 minutes, etc..but I don't know what that program is called.
Once you get into it, it's addicting as heck! Good luck!!! :drinker:0 -

One bad mistake I made was not having good shoes, I used running shoes but they were at least a year old and the support had broke down causing too much stress on my knee which resulted in xrays and ultimately a cortisone shot in my knee:sad: So I would absolutely recommend you go out and get a new decent pair of running shoes. My first pair were inexspensive Nike's at Shoe Carnival, then I bit the bullet and bought some moderately priced Asics and i replace those every 3-4 months b/c I run almost every day.0 -
Thank you Shannon & mkeithley!
I think I'll give it a try this weekend. I kinda like starting out on a track at first (a little bit more controlled). Thanks again :happy:0 -
I've never been a jogger - what's a good way to get started if I were to want to try it?
A few years back I joined the running room's "learn to run" program. They taught us to start off slow. The first couple of weeks we ran 1 and 1's which means you run for a minute and then walk for a minute. You repeat this until you've reach 20 minutes (including the walking). We did this 3 times a week for 2 weeks. After that we started increasing our runs by one minute each week (walking always stayed at 1 minute). By the end of the 12 week program, we were doing 2 sets of the 10 minutes run and walking for 1.
They suggested that beginners should not run more than 3 times a week.
It was a great way to start and maybe you'll end up loving running like us!! :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:0 -
Thank you for all the information on this post! I too have NEVER been a runner (I love to walk - expecially outside) and have always wanted to find the inspiration to jog. I carry most of my weight in my lower body therefore I am very self-concious about my "thick" legs. I have always envyed women with beautiful legs... specifically runners! Maybe I will try to get into it.
Any additional advice???0 -

You son is so beautiful!! :flowerforyou:
As Shannon said, a good pair of running shoes are most important. You don't realize it until you have really good pair on. I had mine fitted at the running room and what a difference.
As you start running, you'll get to know what your body likes and dislikes. Like if you function better with or without food before your run, the time of day you prefer to run (I love early mornings) and basic things like running gear. When I first started running they convinced me to buy all the dry-fit clothes (which are really expensive by the way). I've come to realize that I personally don't find a huge difference between a dry-fit tank top or a regular one. So, now I just wear regular work out clothes and save lots money. lol
Last year I used to get this annoying pain in my ankle. It would go away while running but was always there to start. This year, thankfully I don't have the pain which is probably due to the fact that I've lost 20lbs!! lol My knees are thanking me too.
I know what you mean about beautiful legs. My legs have always been thick too and I've always dreamed of having these beautiful, strong legs. I'm going to keep trying!!
By the way, I'm really happy because I finally got some friends on my profile!! lol I know, I'm a nerd. :bigsmile:0 -

lol - you goof!
Another thing, make sure you invest in a REALLY good sports bra too. You don't want to be tucking your girls into your waistband in 6 months.
And until you develop good runner's legs, make sure your shorts are long enough to where your legs don't rub together. Believe me, that hurts like heck!!!0 -
Wow! I really appreciate all teh advice. I will be sure to make sure that the first two things I have are good running shoes and a good sports bra! As for the shorts... I totally understand what you mean and from my experience with walking I have invested in a few pairs of light-weight exercise capri's. :noway: Yikes on the rubbing!
O' and thanks for the compliment on my little man - I agree he's so cute and such a good little boy! Thank you!
And don't worry... I am a big nerd too! I love adding friends to my profile! Heehee! :bigsmile:0 -
Oh yeah, I've never worn shorts while working out and I never even thought about mentioning it. I actually wear 2 sports bra's when exercising. My girls are everywhere if I don't. lol
Good luck and let us know how it goes! :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:0 -
5.5 miles in...and my shoe of choices is Always Nike shocks!

Thank so much! I do have a really good sports bra but I will always look for a reason to go shopping!!! I do need to new pair of tennis shoes. I have kind of wide feet so I have always hated tennis shoe shopping b/c I always have to get what I consider the "ugly" shoes! Hahahaha!
I have been exercising on the treadmill we have in our basement in the mornings - usually I walk at about 4.2 MPH for 20-30 mintues. Then do abs, arms, or legs depending on the day. Maybe I could start off by jogging for 5 minutes in the middle of my walk and then work my way up??? :indifferent:
I will keep you guys posted! Thanks again for all the advice! One more thing... Do you all where a HRM when you run???0 -

I'm addicted to my HRM. I wear it whenever I exercise and I sometimes I don't stop exercising until I hit a certain mark. Sometimes I think I have issues. lol
By the way, my HRM doesn't bother me at all when I run. :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:0
