Gave me a good laugh, good reply+++++
Don't understand why people flock to overly-restrictive diets when they can have all the foods they want, just practice moderation.
Because sometimes (and I'm not saying this about the OP, it's just a general statement) it's easier for people to have someone tell them what to do, how to eat, when to eat it and how much of it to eat (and lead them up to the belief that it will happen overnight because they'll sleep off the pounds) than for people to sit down, do the research and educate themselves on how to moderate, portion control, and proper exercise.
Again, just a general statement from my experience.0 -
How about this:
Keep it Simple Rules:
1. Figure out a reasonable calorie deficit
2. Accurately and honestly log your food
3. Find an activity you enjoy that gets you up and moving
4. Have patience
5. Rinse and repeat0 -

That'll never work. People refuse to accept the simple fact that they eat too much. It's much easier on the psyche to be told you just haven't been eating the RIGHT foods in the RIGHT way because you didn't know any better.0 -

I am glad I'm a breaker of rules0

RULE 12: Make One Day a Week Meatless
I'm not really against this one.
Huge cheese ommellete for breakfast, with hashbrowns and coffee.
Grilled peanut butter and banana sammich with an apple for lunch. Oh, and a Diet Coke.
Snickers bar and a yohoo for a mid afternoon pick-me-up.
Enormous bowl of mac&cheese with a garden salad for dinner.
There, no meat. I'm a vegetarian!0 -
I just read Bob Harper's Skinny Rules and loved it. I'm just starting working on my health and exercise (day 4 woooot) and I really love most of his advice. I'm just curious if anyone has had success using the rules or the recipes?
Rules are made to be broken. Especially bad ones.0 -

I'm confused. Rule 7 & 12 contradict each other. If I had a "meatless" day, what may I for dinner that has zero carbs and is meatless?
Eggs or fish would be my guess.0 -

QFT. Yep, that's exactly the advise I finally took. I was one of the many that needed to be "told" what to do, but I also don't *like* being told what to do:laugh: . Take responsibility. Admit you're "lying" to yourself (not anyone specifically, talking about myself, and in general). Forget the past and start anew, in a way that is sustainable and pleasurable (or tolerable for the long haul, if need be) for your lifestyle.0 -

Rule 21 - Stop using the word skinny to describe something you want to be. It's stupid.
Oh, what? It's not on the list. Oh, I could have sworn.....

Personally, I'd prefer the word strong over skinny.0 -
You. I like you. :drinker: Although I'll probably eat my Talenti at 11pm while rewatching Attack on Titan.
Attack on Titan half way through it! I always pick all the really long anime (60 more episodes left to watch of Naruto, now Fairy Tail, want to watch One piece). Eeep. All the anime!0 -
I'm confused. Rule 7 & 12 contradict each other. If I had a "meatless" day, what may I for dinner that has zero carbs and is meatless?
Eggs or fish would be my guess.
Fish is not always considered meat - for example, in Catholic church during Lent, you're not supposed to eat meat on Fridays, but fish is allowed. Some "vegetarians" forgo meat - i.e. chicken, red meat, pork, etc - but will still eat fish. It depends on what Bob's definition of "meat" is in the sense of the book. I don't have the book, so obviously I don't have access to what he's defining meat as - just looking at the rules as posted. No need to be condescending.0 -
I loved his book and had a lot of success with the plan. If you stick with it, it works. I still make some of the recipes and follow some of the rules. Good luck0

SL - INDEED!
Back to the thread at hand...
I did grab the Kindle version of this book a few years ago as I had some friends follow the diet. I was curious and gave it a whirl for a nano second. The going to bed hungry thing ticked me off within the first few days. Plus Bob said a few things in it that made me go... "HUH?" I think it was regarding the no eating after 8pm thing. To keep you distracted: Women - watch Steel Magnolias! Dudes, watch blow 'em ups/Bay'splosions! YAY bad generalizations!:indifferent:
I do agree with SOME of the rules, but if you read the book, the calories are really pretty low, especially for males. Plus I think the protein can be so-so depending on your build and activity level. It's been awhile since I read it, but that's what I'm remembering at least!0 -
Careful with #5. Do this very gradually and drink plenty of fluids or you could end up with a blockage.0

RULE 1: Drink a Large Glass of Water before Every Meal – No Excuses!
Meh. It's a fine rule, but I don't do it. I select portions that fit into my calories, so I don't need to "fill up" on water to avoid overeating.
RULE 2: Don’t Drink Your Calories
Okay. Except for protein shakes - yummy yummy protein shakes.
RULE 3: Eat Protein Every Meal – or Stay Hungry and Grouchy
Done and done.
RULE 4: Slash Your Intake of Refined Flours and Grains
Uh, no.
RULE 5: Eat 30 to 50 Grams of Fiber a Day
I get within that range on lifting days, but that's about it. Increasing my fiber brought me from one BM a day to a half of one every other day - ugh, yeah, I'm not eating more fiber than I am.
RULE 6: Eat Apples and Berries Every Single Day – Every Single Day!
Not unless I want to. I usually don't.
RULE 7: No Carbs after Lunch
Silliest rule so far. Absolutely unnecessary.
RULE 8: Learn to Read Food Labels So You Know What You Are Eating
Yes, definitely.
RULE 9: Step Guessing About Portion Size and Get It Right – for Good!
Another good one.
RULE 10: No More Added Sweeteners, Including Artificial Ones
Hm...oatmeal without brown sugar? Black coffee? No thanks.
RULES 11: Get Rid of Those White Potatoes
Oh hell no!
RULE 12: Make One Day a Week Meatless
Then what am I supposed to eat for dinner if I can't have carbs after lunch? I guess black coffee with noooo sugar!
RULE 13: Get Rid of Fast Foods and Fried Foods
It's all about moderation. I still eat both and I'm losing weight.
RULE 14: Eat a Real Breakfast
I do this, but breakfast isn't necessary to lose weight. If you're hungry, definitely eat. If you're not, just eat those calories later in the day.
RULE 15: Make Your Own Food and Eat at Least Ten Meals a Week at Home
I definitely do this. Sounds like a decent rule if you can do it.
RULE 16: Banish High-Salt Foods
HA!
RULE 17: Eat Your Vegetables – Just Do It!
Don't like vegetables? Do what I do and put a bunch of spinach in your protein shake (aka liquid calories). Works for me!
RULE 18: Go to Bed Hungry
Okay, I was wrong. This rule is wayyyyy more stupid than the no carbs after lunch rule. Go to bed hungry - what?! Why the hell would I do that?
RULE 19: Sleep Right
I struggle with this one, but it's a good rule.
RULE 20: Plan One Splurge Meal a Week
Nah. Work it into your weekly calories and it's not a "splurge." I eat out a lot on weekends, meaning more calories than during the week, but it always fits into my weekly goals. Well, except for during my monthly *kitten* It Weekend.0 -

Are you sure Doctor Oz didn't make this rule list for him?
Stick with a caloric deficit, its all you need! Complicating things with unnecessary rules will do nothing good for you in the long term except make your plan less sustainable.0 -
RULE 12: Make One Day a Week Meatless
Then what am I supposed to eat for dinner if I can't have carbs after lunch? I guess black coffee with noooo sugar!

I thought lard counted as meat. Maybe coconut oil?0
