Game of Thrones - I Need Therapy - Spoiler Alert

  • I've been waiting for the final few episodes this season. So much good stuff is about to go down. That said, I feel what is going to happen next week in Episode 9 is not going to give justice to the novels. If S4 - Episode 10 happens the way I think it will it will leave its millions of viewers very happy.

As an aside - READ THE BOOKS PEOPLE!!!!!!

While reading the books, in my head that was not Oberyn's voice, so all I kept thinking was...

As a book reader I knew it was coming. But seeing it...ouch.

I think Martin would just name a character after you, make them really likable and then kill them as revenge for that bill.

Love the Jaime/Tyrion interaction! Jaime Lannister is one of my favourite characters....I know, me bad. But he rocks. Sansa can do a running jump as far as I am concerned though.

this is what I mean, since you read the book and already knew what would happen, did you really need to see it? also could not the point have been inferred?

I just don't know what happened to withheld image in storytelling and film. Sometimes does it not seem gratuitous, or just for shock value as hinted above? Does that ever just turn you off to a show? To me it often does.

I'm just wondering if any of you think withheld image would have been a better tool in this scene?

I really like where they are going with Sansa.

Was there a point to the beetle smashing story.

I was sitting by myself watching this morning. I threw my hands over my eyes. It was so intense.

I have never watched a show like this.

    I confess I was shaking.

The point of the beetle smashing story was some things in life cannot be explained. It paralleled his situation perfectly. He'd done everything he could for King's Landing, saving the people from invaders and a large number of other things (ie smashing beetles) but it didn't matter. There was no point in his helping them because they still hated him and were still going to cheer for his death. I don't know if I'm making this clear.

At least, that's how I interpreted it.

I was hearing a lot about this show in the beginning and when I looked into it a pregnant lady was having her belly stabbed. That was enough for me. I knew just to have legs the show would have to top itself so I'm not surprised it's chosen to be graphic in that way. I get that it was books and so it has to stick to some semblance of storyline/plotlines but it's choosey where you are going to put that kind of stuff in and how. I just knew I'd end up like OP all "disturbed" and whatnot.

I like my shows to be nice and give me good feelings. I don't like to feel like I need showers or therapy or my mommy after things I watch.

I'm sorry you feel like that OP...are you going to continue to watch? I'd guess by now the storyline is so riveting, you kind of really really want to in spite of that feeling?

You know for the first time I am really considering walking away from this one. I might feel differently by Sunday. But I feel like, "Come on, we get it, you like to kill the good guys." It is becoming more expected than shocked.

I am not sure if I want to see if Tyrian gets it, because he is my favorite.

My facebook photo for part of last week was a "Hello my name is...." badge with Oberyn Martell written in.

Edit: Aww, nuts. I don't want to fiddle around with fixing the size on that. Just right click it.

Not for me. I love the gore.

I don't know that he kills off ALL the good guys... if that were true then Jon Snow would be dead and so would Arya... not to mention Dany, Bran, and quite a few others.... Jaime's character has redeeming qualities as well... first season I would have liked to see him dead, but now.... not so much... also Joffery would still be a live...

The beetle story did a pretty good job in setting up the climax, imo.

There was also a really nice bit of foreshadowing for the next episode (or perhaps episode after next) hidden in the dialogue of this one somewhere too......

Love the writing on this show.

OHHHH I caught that!!! but I had to bite my tongue as my partner hasn't read that far in the books yet.

The foreshadowing was amazing. My husband and I were hysterical

I interrupted as sometimes bad things just happen for no reason at all. But I really, really thought that the Viper would win. I am not sure what the heck I was thinking.

Tyrion is an amazing actor truly. But I think you kind of miss the point, there are no "GOOD" guys. Sansa maybe...but I like where they seem to be going with her. What's so amazing about the story is that you do get so invested in deeply flawed characters.

I'm more worried that the show is going to catch up to the books, and that will be a problem, cause when he starts writing the book after the show, that character development isn't there.

I had to turn away, I couldn't watch The Mountain kill The Viper and was so disappointed to see him die. I can't do a lot of gore and watching would have made be sick. For some reason, that episode was more disturbing to me than any other that I can think of. All I could think of what the "you raped my sister, killer her...."

I will agree, the scene with Arya laughing was priceless, I couldn't help by laugh along with her, best part of the whole episode!

Oh yes....invested in flawed characters. This is one main reason I wish the show's gore did not keep me away. I have a hard time with this and had heard this about this show and that's intriguing. So many show's that the turner offer, that and suspended disbeleif. Well the second one more for movies but yeah I had heard this and wanted to watch it but gore's not my thing.

I respectfully disagree, there are always good guys. None better on that show in my opinion than Tyrian. Not at this point at least.

Yes he's been notoriously slow in completing the novels but remember that A Feast For Crows and A Dance With Dragons are happening at the same time but with different characters. We're not going to get an entire season of the show without Danaerys, Tyrion, Jamie, Jon, etc.. So looking forward to Season 5 of the show, it will take (most likely) the first half of each book and Season 6 would be the 2nd half of each one. Assuming history holds true and we get a 10-episode season starting in April for the next 2 years then he would have until mid to late 2016 to finish the 6th novel in time to get a Season 7 of the show in 2017.

Read the books. It is a little bloody for sure, I find it's easier not to notice it in the books. GoT, it's like Lord of the Rings with more blood. And boobs. Also, watch this, just to get a bit of humour back...

I really feel like they are rushing through things.

And I want more Ramsay Snow (Bolton). He's a freaking kitten in the show compared to the book.

Sansa coming out looking all important? Whatever. But Arya showing up at the castle... I'm excited to see how that plays out.

I don't care for the guy playing Oberyn - he's just not doing it for me.
  • yeah, was totally disturbing. Really well done the way he went from cocky and in total command of the situation to primally screaming for his life as the Mountain squashed his eyes. Terribly gory. We watch that show right before bed, and I had a hard time getting that image out of my mind. Almost wanted to look the actor up on IMDB to assure myself his head was still in one piece!

My wife has threatened to stop watching the show if the gore keeps up, though. I have to say, it is a lot.

The gore is bad, but that is not what fundamentally bothered me. I am really upset because I do not know how Tyriain gets out of dying. I really do not want to see that.

I just don't see how Tyrion's going to weasel his way out of THIS one, now...his smart mouth and dumb luck's somehow kept him alive until now, but he's running out of friends and resources faster than he can find them. Now I'm scared for him. Up until now I was like "no way Oberyn will lose, he's too good of a character to die" but if he can be casually offed like that, so can Tyrion just as easily. Please don't die, Imp. Me-luvs-u!

i thought his little speech about his slow cousin was disapointing. felt like it was going somewheres then it was a total dud.

some of the dialogue in this show is an astonishing cut above the rest. and not because its in some funky vernacular, its just so compellingly worded

'comforts me more then a 1000 lying *kitten*'

I think withholding images and letting imagination do the job absolutely has its place. I just don't think this show is the place. I'm not huge fan of violence in television, but I overlook (and even enjoy it in a way) in this series. Perhaps because I've already imagined (most) of these things so it's interesting to see how it compares to what was in my mind? I'm not sure. I love seeing these people that have lived in my head forever come to life, so perhaps I'm willing to overlook the boobs and blood. I do cover my eyes frequently (I hate seeing guts).

Yeah, it wasn't so much the gore we thought would make it so upsetting for non-book-readers. Watchers are certainly used to the gore by now. It's that it made you believe that the Viper would triumph and then wham!
