Hi, not to sound like an idiot or anything but..
I'm on a slimming world plan, so I basically stuff my face with foods that are generally low in sugar and fat until I am full.
I decided to join myfitnesspal to track my calorie intake and to see if I can boost my weight loss anywhere.
I have been tracking for 2 days now, (eating what I generally eat every day) and I can see that I am severely lacking in calories - my goal is 1380 (according to myfitnesspal, to lose 1lb a week), yet I only consume around 800-900.
Now, obviously from not eating sugary/fatty foods, my calorie intake would be quite low anyway.. But I eat loads of carbs, which are full of calories.
Am I affecting my weight loss by not eating enough calories? (I do pretty much 0% exercise)
Appreciate any input

If your goal is 1380 calories, then eat up to 1380 calories. Problem solved.
A balanced diet is quite important, so you shouldn't neglect fats and sugars, but rather moderate them accordingly.
Feel free to put the salad dressing on your salad! Or even use shredded cheese. Fats are good for you.
And protein. Plenty of protein! Good stuff!0 -

sigh. yes i am weighing everything correctly. i have lost 20 pounds since january. i am on slimming world, as i said. where you eat as much as you want until you are full.
i didn't gain weight because i ate a lot of calories, i gained weight because i ate the wrong kinds of food.0 -

There is no wrong kind of food. I eat pizza and ice cream and still lose weight. There's a thing called moderation, and many people don't practice it. Also, you gained weight from too many calories. If you eat 3,000 calories of veggies, you will gain weight.0 -
To counter muscle loss, you may want to increase lean protein. Muscle loss is the main problem with very lower calorie intake.0

Not many people here are going to support your goal of stuffing your face with as many fruits as you want while ignoring other important parts of your diet. Sorry
If you would like a suggestion to increase your daily caloric intake, try throwing in 1 oz of almonds or another nut you like. Or drink some whole milk. Or use full fat salad dressing.
It seems like you're under the impression that fat is bad, which is not true.0 -
If all you do is eat fruits and veg then your diet is almost 100% pure sugar. Not sure what gave you the idea that that would be healthy. Well I get that you got that idea from "slimming world" and all I guess I meant more I'm not sure what gave you the idea that that was a good idea to follow that diet.0

just saying.
Is slimming world good? I don't know. Are strangers on the internet good?
OP: find a way to lose weight that is sustainable (not just "rabbit food"), and safe (not 800 calories) and teaches you something about nutrition and maintaining calories (Does Slimming World do that and are you LISTENING if they do)? Tell your SW coach that you've been counting and you think you're eating 800-900 calories a day. If she thinks that's fine, question it. Seriously.
Do you need to eat pizza and ice cream? No. YOU decide what you eat. If that includes pizza and ice cream AS PART OF A BALANCED DIET, great. YOU decide. Not strangers on the internet.0 -

You can eat healthy all you want as you are now, but if you eat more calories than you burn you will gain weight. The difference now is that you are creating a calorie deficit by eating a bunch of super low calorie foods.
By the way, fats are essential to nutrition.
The key to losing weight is to eat what you normally like to eat but in moderation so that you say within your calorie goals.0 -

Congrats on your success!
I checked into Slimming World and it is basically the Nutrisystem or Weight Watchers of the UK. Here's a sample menu:
http://www.slimmingworldusa.com/healthy-eating/non-vegetarian-menu.aspx
Overall - where are you getting your calorie count? 600 calories is waaay too low for you to be getting enough nutrients, but my quick browse of the site and menus looked okay - lots of lean protein and good fats.
This forum has a gal who counted 1800 calories/day with her Slimming World calorie measurement...
http://www.minimins.com/slimming-world/61988-slimming-world-calorie-intake.html
So... how are you getting to your 600?0 -

Slimming world isn't a diet of rabbit food. I have a balanced diet
Typical day in the life of me:
breakfast, either 2 weetabix with 250ml of semi skimmed, or 2 slices of brown bread from a 400g loaf, toasted, with Philadelphia light garlic and herb (15g on each slice) and 250ml glass of semi skimmed milk on the side.
lunch: chicken pasta salad (chicken breast marinated in Peri Peri lemon and herb, lettuce, pasta, cucumber, tomato, etc etc.)
dinner: spaghetti bolognese made with extra lean minced beef, tinned tomatoes, loads of peppers/onions/garlic,mushrooms, courgettes, etc, salt and pepper, herbs and spices, and spaghetti.
for snacks ill have a handful of berries, (because too many will make you GAIN weight due to excessive sugar intake) apples, satsumas, pears.. etc. i aim for 2-5 portions a day of fruit and veg (but always fall under), muller light yogurts (99kcal each)
if i wanted to, i could also have pizza, or chips, or chocolate. up to 300 kcal worth.
i don't want people to keep saying i'm not eating a balanced diet, because i am. i'm just obviously not eating enough calories. all i want to know is, am i jeopardising weight loss by not eating that little bit more? (because after all my hearty meals, i'm stuffed) i have got no fear of my body going in to 'starvation mode' because as i said, i have been on this diet for 20 weeks, losing on average 1lb per week. the only thing slimming world doesn't teach is portion control. so i just eat until i'm full.
i'm sensing a lot of hate for slimming world on here lol
and again, thank you for any input0 -

That's a whole heck of a lot more than 600-800 calories unless you're only eating a tablespoon or two of each.
There's no particular hate for slimming world - I don't think most of us had ever heard of it.
There IS a lot of hate (well--not hate. Hate is a strong word. How about diagreement?) with people who think they can only eat 600-800 calories a day in order to lose weight.0 -

I thought it would have been more too, but it's honestly not! I couldn't believe it either - hence the reason for me starting this thread. wondering whether or not i should be eating more (beauty of slimming world). (also i eat small portions - until i am full)
also, 800 - 900 calories. not 600 - 8000 -
Yep sorry - my bad on the number. Still probably way more than 800-900 calories...but you still haven't said HOW MUCH of a lot of the items you're eating.
Let's just look at breakfast. 2 slices of bread is probably somewhere in the 150-200 calorie range. 250 ml of semi-skim (I assume this is like 1% in US) is another 100-125 calories So we're almost halfway there just in breakfast without counting the spread. I'm not familiar with the biscuit things.
Lunch - don't know how much you're eating, but even 1/2 chicken breast will have 100-200 calories and pasta is pretty calorie dense too.
Ditto with dinner - lean meat has calories, and again pasta.
Snacks - apple is probably 75-100 calories; same for a handful of berries. Yogurt is 100 calories per your post.0 -

Lidl - Semi-skimmed Milk, 100 ml - 47 kcal
Hovis (Uk) - Wholemeal Bread Toasted - Small (400g), 2 slice - 110 kcal
Kraft - Light Philadelphia Garlic and Herbs (Uk), 30 g - 46 kcal
203kcal total

Fruit - Satsuma Small (55g), 2 small - 40 kcal

if you have a look at my snacks, you will see that the other 150ml is there.
portion size for pasta bolognese is 500g minced beef, 400g pasta, a jar of ragu, 48kcal or so per portion, loads of extra veg, spices etc. divided by 5 people. (measured out into 5 individual containers and then frozen for future use)
chicken pasta salad
80g of chicken breast, 40g pasta, plus salad. NO DRESSINGS. i document everything i put in my mouth. even what i drink. which is mostly sugarfree pop (3kcal per 250ml) or water, which happens to be 0 calories.
so please do highlight my hidden calories.
Thanks.0 -

Well, this website http://beta.weightlossresources.co.uk/calories-in-food/beef/Cooked-Minced-Beef.htm says that a 75g portion of cooked minced beef is 214 calories (and one portion for you is 100g) and 100g of pasta (dried) is roughly 350 calories, so your bolognese is 600 calories or more per portion from my calculations...0 -
OP, you gained your initial weight not by eating the wrong foods but by eating too much food in total. Your currently intake is too low (assuming correctly calorie counting) to be healthy. You need to eat more. Do not say you can't because that's just an excuse to continue with your currently unhealthy eating practices.
Eat more for overall health.
If you want to maintain the muscle you currently have:
Eat enough protein (.8-1g per lb of lean body mass)
Lift progressively heavy things0 -

okay wheatabix x 2 and 250ml milk = 200kcal
Chicken pasta salad = 350kcal
Spaghetti bolognaise = 400kcals
muller yoghurt = 100kcals
That's over 1000kcals ...
Also we're not hating on slimming world we're hating on your "junk food makes you fat" attitude because its incorrect. Calories make you fat. I've lost 18lbs this year and I eat whatever I want in proportion. So does most people on here.
Slimming World is a product, they make you feel you wouldn't manage without them, that's why they don't teach you the essentials as you said - portion control.0 -

There is no way you're eating 168 cals of chicken pasta salad for lunch. You're not measuring your portions.
80 grams of chicken (2.2 oz)
40 grams of pasta (1.1 oz)
This is like 3 shot glasses worth of food. To answer your original question: You ARE affecting your weight loss because you are most likely eating more than you think.0 -
