they're caffiene. they don't work any better than having some coffee before the gym.....IMHO0

Caffeine in a cup of coffee doesn't touch the 200mg of caffeine in one of my capsules. Tonight I am going to compile a list of studied thermogenics. NONE of them are magic, but they are helpful.0

When you go off them, doesn't it hurt your metabolism?0 -

All of them. None really worked on their own [yes, I was hoping for a miracle!]. Best fat burner so far: exercise.0 -
i agree but i have a 2 year old and it gets kinda hard to go to the gym when im not working0

Screw caffiene- you need some more variety in your diet- you have some kind of crap or other every day! Eat a vegetable!0

Just to be clear, no fat burner will work without exercise and proper diet. People get put off fat burners because they think they will magically lose 25 pounds in a month. Not so unless you are really over weight. Expect to lose 7 -10 max. a month, with the law of diminishing returns every month after that. They are tools and help, but you still have to do the work.0

now now boys...
caffeine and nicotine are indeed both proven to raise your metabolism and will help you get/stay thinner.....
so do heroin, meth, and coke
none are good for you.

Generally? Personal opinion. I'm not saying caffiene doesnt work- but it seems to me like an extra, unnecessary expense vs just cooking your own well balanced meals. I checked her diary- BK, Cracker Barrell, Pizza and all number of snacky junk just in the last 3 days. In my experience, sometimes the type of food you eat holds you at a plateau more so than the calories. And I do have 6 months of steady, bingeless, if slow, weightloss to back that up.0

you seem to know alot about dieting and stuff im planning on going to the gym tuesdays and thursdays for about 45 min i used to do an intense work out class they offered called body pump but everyone keeps telling me to stick to cardio since my class involved weights and stuff. what do you think i should start with its been a month since i last went to the gym :noway:0

no *kitten*, so far the only thing that actually works is exercise and diet...anything else seems like cheating yourself out of your hard work. if you're plateauing there are plenty of threads on here that can give you some ideas on how to shake things up a bit...0 -

nope. Not betting. I don't know everything or really anything and I DO drink a pot or more of coffee a day.0 -

See! While I'm not betting, I am totally against trying to take a pill to cure my overeating/not moving problem.0 -
I am not doubting you loss. nevah! All I am saying is there are supplements that have been shown to help. CLA, green tea, caffeine, ephedra, and capsaicin all come to mind. Some look at it like cheating. I don't see how. Is taking a multivitamin cheating?0

i know im eating something that arent bad on calories but have alot of fat and with halloween and stuff ive just gotten out of hand and i dont have time to cook anyhting myself usually my in law cooks and i just try and eat as little as possible from what she makes and during lunch time im trying just to stick to wendys salads and subway but i would like to start trying to have some small snacks in between or something so i dont feel tempted when i go get my lunch. i did weight watchers once and lost 50 lbs but i cant seem to get back on it this time around it seems almost impossible for me0

I'd caution if you are already drinking a lot of coffee and then wanting to take a "fat burner". That is going to be A LOT of caffeine in a day. This could cause you to be shakey, dizzy, upset your stomach, loss of sleep, or worse cause heart issues. I do take a pre-workout drink that has a lot of caffeine in it but I limit myself to one cup of coffee first thing in the morning. The pre-workout drink does help with motivation and stamina. It does cause some sleep issues though.0

Some will cause a crash. Some effect you sleeping or going into REM sleep properly and when you come of certain ones you will find yourself feeling overly drained and tired. Your body starts to use this as an energy supply so to speak so when you stop taking them your body is at an all time (s)low.0

no you don't have serious medical issues if you don't take caffeine though, you do if you don't have enough calcium or iron. All i'm saying is that instead of boosting yourself with an unnecessary pill, why don't you run for 15 more minutes, or eat a couple of almonds 20 minutes before you go to the gym to burn more calories0

Mcanals- Bottom line everyone has to find their own way. Being a grad student earning nothing and barely on the affording rent side of life, tend to go with things that dont require extras- I run and occasionally do one of the cardio dvds accumulated through years of being a teenage/twentysomething or those that are on instant play on netflix. I work extra hard at getting extra veggies in each day, and staying close to my cals (sometimes I go over, sometimes I dont) and in the long run, my grocery bills have even started to drop. That's what works for me.
If you want, I am part of this great thread of (mostly) women in our twenties. They are all great, enthusiastic and supportive and a couple of them are at maintence stages, so they have great "been there" advice. Here's the thread.

Good luck what ever you choose to do.0 -
I use fat burners every so often for extra energy. they way my teaching (aerobics/Zumba) schedule is, i sometimes need an extra burst of energy when teach back to back classes several days a week. hydroxycut hardcore were my favorites then they took them off the market and remade the formula. I haven't tried the new ones. i recently bought the Lipo 6 Hers (black label) and seem to like them. i don't use them everyday but do like a boost every once in a while. i'm not here to argue with anyone, just answering a question.0

thank you so much for your help i will look into your group i most def need some support especially on the weekends0
-
the point is... good or bad debate aside... that fat burners only serve any purpose if you are actually working out.
doing nothing (no excercise) and taking them, serves no purpose, you still need to get your workouts in for them to be effective in any form....0 -
