People perceive positive and negative differently. If I tell you something that goes against your belief system, you think I'm being negative while someone standing next to you is more in line with my thinking and will think what I said is awesome. So, I don't know how to make everyone happy. It's not worth my time to think about it. I just exist and I do my thing. It's not my job to be positive for you so that you can be happy. That's not really how it works.

Am I the only one that thought OP's post was about people making excuses for not losing weight and just need to suck it up and get 'er done?

    No.

I've been off and on mpf for a few years now. Unfortunately, I've noticed a lot of negative posts. Worst yet, there are some who have entire profiles of complaining.

I'm sorry if this post offends you at all; that is not the intention. Some people aren't aware that they're doing it.

Whatever you put out into the universe you get back. This has shown time and time again in my weight loss journey. Whenever I've been happier, positive, and trying to forge ahead it's been EFFORTLESS TO LOSE WEIGHT. On the flip side, when I was staring in the mirror thinking how awful I looked, feeling my fat, and moping around the house I GAINED A LOT. In fact, that's how I came to be my heaviest weight.

It may seem difficult to get into a positive mindset. Coming from a background of depression I can totally understand. However, it is necessary for any real changes to occur in life.

I hope this helps. Most of all, BELIEVE IN YOURSELF. Other people can believe in you all they want, but until you believe in yourself and your ability to change your life nothing will happen.

If you actually read the entire post, it's not a mean people rant...cut the poor girl some slack.

So depression is a character flaw now? People just don't have enough stamina to not be depressed??

I haven't noticed any negative posts. Most are helpful, the rest are funny.

You know the story about the two dogs that walk into the room full of mirrors?

And then there are these people.

Actually, I thought that was the best post of the entire thread.

Actually, I thought it was another "people are so mean" post. I was going to tell her to "bite me" but I realized that was not the case.

I don't like threads where the original poster tells everyone else what they're doing wrong. It is indicative that their focus is on external things that are out of their control, rather on internal things that they can control.

There is depression, and then there is Depression (the caps is on purpose). Regular depression is something we all experience as part of grief/loss, having bad things happen in our lives, etc. Actively looking for a positive attitude in life and focusing our energy in a constructive manner works wonders for this depression. Then there is Depression, which is a genuine clinical condition that an individual will battle for the entirety of their lives because it isn't their mind that is the problem, it is the physical and biological processes of their body. Taking care of your body can help with Depression, but there is no cure and no treatment will more than help mitigate the symptoms for a time. I don't suffer from Depression, so when I'm feeling down I can 'pull myself up by my bootstraps' and carry on. I have good friends who do suffer from Depression, and when they are in a funk there is no amount of medication, distracting activities, or positive thinking that is going to make them magically better. They push on and work hard to keep their lives together, but their condition robs a lot of their ability to experience the joys in life and makes even fun activities a huge battle internally.

A lot of people are overweight because of chronic depression, stress, anxiety, and a host of other issues, in fact, most overweight people are overweight because they are unhappy or suffer from issues.
You can't will away those issues.

No, you can't will those away but you can find better coping strategies to alleviate both the symptoms and effects. For example, many folks are Vitamin D deficient which manifests itself as depression amongst other symptoms. Simply supplementing with Vitamin D significantly reduces the depression caused by the deficiency.

Well, bless your little heart for recommending Vitamin D to fix depression. Now what about people who have clinical depression, bipolar disorder, panic/anxiety disorders that are so bad they're classified as medical problems and other non-situational mental illness?

There isn't a vitamin out there to cure what I've got but I do agree that taking Vitamin D is a good strategy for most people.

Well excuse me! I did clarify that I was referring to depression due to Vitamin D deficiency. Talk to your doctor if you have any problems you mentioned then follow his or her advice.

I don't think the op is telling everyone what they're doing wrong at all, she's expressing a general frame of mind and how when she changed hers that her weight loss suddenly became a lot easier. And then she gives a little cheer at the end. Nothing wrong with that.

I'm in to learn more about how to cure my depression through willpower and supplements.

Can be done. First step is to realize that depression is NOT you. It is a chemical reaction in the body that makes you feel depressed or anxious. Exercise and finding the right healthy diet makes a huge difference in getting balanced.

    Good luck.

I agree but this idea won't be well received by those who refuse to take responsibility for themselves. Exercise and diet can have a significant impact on psychological and physical well being!

My post said more than that, but I do agree with you that it is pithy advice. Beating depression and issues in general take a fair amount of discipline and stamina, which a lot of people aren't willing to take. Losing weight is about a lot more than just being more positive, but it's a start.

Everybody has issues. I'm sorry that you felt the advice was unwanted, but judging from your picture, you didn't need it to begin with.

Every change starts from a mindset to succeed. It's only the mind that can change any aspect of a person's life.

What is that supposed to imply?

^I would like to know as well. ..

She's saying his profile pic makes him look fit and healthy so he is likely doing alright on his weight loss journey - i.e. her advice doesn't apply to him.

I guess you missed my post about seeing various medical professionals and taking my medications every day. I'd say that counts as taking responsibility for myself.

I'm not really sure how many times it's got to be said: some people have the uppercase "D" and diet and exercise won't cure it any more than diet and exercise will cure my Dad's Parkinson's. I'm not comparing one to the other in terms of physiology but what I am saying is that we both have brain diseases that can't be cured.

A b12 deficiency can cause hallucinations, and that's straight up truth. Not saying I believe you can cure depression with diet, but make sure you get all your micros.
