If you can't socialise without alcohol, it's not the socialising that's the problem. Just saying...

Way to go way off target there. Also, its socializing. If your going to be a critic, at least spell it right.

First: it is against MFP rules to criticize spelling.

Second: the person that posted that comment is from Belfast (Ireland), so they use the "z" while in the US, we use the "s” in the same words. Got that?

Thanks, Ely - that's right, over here we think the rest of you are spelling it wrong! (Also, segastler, if you're going to criticise my spelling, at least use the right "you're" yourself ;-) )

And I wasn't trying to go off target. But seriously, beer - especially 6 pints in a sitting - is a lot of empty calories, and drinking will lower your inhibitions about, say, ordering that pizza. Can't see drinking and being near deep water as a good combination, either, but that's because I've seen it go wrong too often at work.

I'd say try cutting out the beer. And if you can't cut out the beer for a weekend, well, there's your problem.

I agree with you Okapi, I can only master one light beer once in awhile. I like the taste but it doesn't set nice in my stomach, and the the same with alcohol in general. I congratulate you because I know how much irish people like their beer. I loved going to your pubs and enjoying the atmosphere and tradition. Cheers!

Drinking "a lot" is all relative. But you have to question why you are drinking. Do you really enjoy the taste of lite beer? Not to be a beer snob, but that sounds really crappy.... like saying having a little debbie cake is your absolute favorite desert. Cheesecake? Fresh baked brownie? Nope. A $99 gas station cake. To each his own. I'm going to go out on a limb and assume you aren't really drinking it because that is the best tasting beer you can think of, but if it's really about taking the edge off, or relaxing, or getting a buzz. If you don't want to make any changes as far as being social without as much alcohol or learning to moderate some, you could get the same amount of a buzz with less calories by drinking liquor. Just saying.
