Lower calorie intake at some point?

Hi,

Are we ever supposed to lower our calorie intake once we have lost some weight so we can continue losing weight? I know with some other programs such as ww, they put restrictions on the amount you can consume - the more you lose = lower intake in order to still lose.

Does this apply to mfp at some point?

Thanks

  • You can always change your goals. When you lose weight or when you are trying to reach a certain goal, there are options.
  • It depends on how low your calories are to begin with. If you are @ 1200 cals, don't go lower. If it is much higher than 1200, you can go to settings and retake the little quiz about how much you weigh and how much you want to lose. It is also a good idea to do that if you change jobs and are more active or less active. It will give you an accurate assesment of the calories you can consume but it is not recomended that you take in any less than 1200. Hope that helps.
  • That's what I love about this site, once you update your new weight it will give you the option to change the calorie intake.

it does lower them automatically as you do a weigh in, a few weeks ago I was on 1470, last week I was on 1430 and after ading my 2lb loss this week i'm now on 1410. Make a note next time you weigh in...however it will not put your calories below 1200, if you want to go beyond that you would have to set them manually

And if you have your settings customized, it won't update automatically. You have to change goals, click on guided, let it change your calories, then go back into change goals again, except go to custom and change whatever you usually change.
