Sweet potatoes...yes or no?

I have about 20 pounds left to lose.....and I don't want to do anything to stall my weight loss progress. They say to stay away from starchy foods like potatoes....do sweet potatoes count? I looked it up and there are only 103 calories in 1 medium one, 60 calories in a small one. Is it a good idea to eat sweet potatoes if you're trying to lose weight/get in shape?

Not for me, I can't stand the taste. But if they fit your calories and macros and you like them, go for it.0

Are you eating in a caloric deficit?
Then H3LL YES SWEET POTATO!0 -
If it fits into your calories limit then eat it.0

They are lower on glycemic index than regular ones. So they don't count. I love sweet potatoes so if you like them eat them0

Yum. Yes. If it fits your macros, go for gold.0

Sweet potato is one of my 2 only carb sources and its one of the best for you!! get them in you0

If you're going to eat one, weigh it with a digital food scale. As you should with all of your food. My size medium and your size medium are two very different things.0

Definitely Yes.
I cook a batch of them every week and keep them in the fridge for one every day or so. I don't eat a lot of carbs, but this super-food belongs in everyone's diet.0 -
Sweet potatoes are very healthy. Regardless, as long as you stay in a calorie deficit, it doesn't matter if you eat starchy food or not.0

Theyre loaded with fiber too. Bake em in the oven and hit em with a little honey, mash em up with a bit of almond milk. Man, yummy treat!0

Sweet potatoes are delicious and have fewer calories and more good nutrients than regular potatoes. I eat them regularly. They're good mashed with a little cinnamon and butter/nondairy spread, but they're even better when you chop them up and bake them for 45-60 minutes at 400 degrees with a little bit of olive oil and some rosemary.0

Those look really good. Actually, there are a bunch of really good sounding recipes on there and from the one I looked at, easy enough for even someone as inept as me in the kitchen to make.0 -
Baked sweet potato fries. Delicious. But I eat real potatoes too. Staying in my calorie limit and eating a wide variety of foods has worked for me.0

OP, "they" don't know what they are talking about. They are lower on glycemic index than regular ones. So they don't count. I love sweet potatoes so if you like them eat them
Also, all food counts because all food can be eaten.
I believe your point is technically correct, but not truly relevant. A lower glycemic index food always has an advantage over one with a higher index. So sure, a combination of foods will have a glycemic index that's different from any individual one, but that doesn't negate the inherent benefit of foods with a lower index. Particularly if you have reason to be concerned with the impact of diet on blood glucose - such as people who are diabetic or even pre-diabetic..................0 -

Yes, yes yes!! Since I've started eating sweet potatoes I never want regular potatoes anymore. They are so much better. I eat them w/ butter and cinnamon sugar or even just plain. Or I make the fries... add some Tony's.
Still losing weight! Just keep track of your calories.0 -
