Dr's Fat Shaming Caused Emotional Eating
Today, I took my little Cleo to the Dr for her yearly visit. While rubbing her tummy, he called her chubby and said that she needed to lose weight. When we got home, the poor thing went straight for her food. I know she was reacting to his fat shaming. Now I ask you, does this look too chubby:

She doesn't look that overweight for a cat. Vets are like doctors and tend to overreact. Then again our cats eat like they're always starving.0

Looks like the poody cat inhaled an entire pudding bowl.0

10/10 :laugh:0

HAHAHA I read the title and immediately rolled my eyes.
Your little cat is NOT chubby! He's just big boned.0 -
She's just "fluffy"...:laugh:0

Your Cleo looks exact like my cuddamoe :P I dunno if its the breed or what but they seem to not lose weight very easy but boy do they put it on!
Oh and I blame you for having to wake my cat up to take a photo  she looks so sleepy!

Omg... I just realized, my dog emotional eats too!! He always gets so excited whenever I come home from work but instead of physically greeting me, he'll randomly snack on his food bowl. .___.0

She's not over weight, but could maybe work on reducing her bodyfat a bit! :laugh:0

She looks a lot like my tubby little boy. Every time I pick him up all I can think is damn, that is one solid cat. :laugh:0
-
She looks happy, with a good, solid body type. I wouldn't worry too much--my old guy was a brick (over 13 lb. at his heaviest) and he's nearly 18 now.0

I showed this to a friend for lulz. Her eyes widened and then there was some impolite language which summarised to: Your cat's kind of fat, love  :laugh:0

Funny! But cats do not emotionally eat from a vet shaming them for being chubby.0

you win the internet for this post.
My kitty is chubby too,but otherwise healthy and happy. I say she's a BBW!0 -
Fear not! Cats are starting to embrace their curves!

Clearly that doctor is untrained. Kitty weight and height is determined by box-fit. Your cat is in the medium sized priority mail box range. Totally acceptable.

Yup. Cleo's chubby.
Its a diabetes risk in cats, so you actually do need to take the vet seriously.
Costco currently has wild-caught frozen pacific small shrimp for $10/2 lbs, aka $5/lb.
The regular price for fancy feast at Nob Hill Foods where I live works out to $5.35/lb.
Shrimp has a lot lower calorie-density than cat food. Consider feeding your cat shrimp one meal a day to cut his calories without reducing his enjoyment of his food at all. (assuming he likes shrimp).
add: also makes a really nice salad for you if you take 3 oz on top of butter lettuce with cubed avocado, cubed mango, and raspberry balsamic vinaigrette.0 -

Does this count?
Yes!
See, totally in the healthy cat BMI range. Perhaps you should have mentioned to the doctor that she exercises frequently by slaying monsters.0 -
Cats are cuter when they are fat. I like big cats, and I cannot lie.
But seriously...every time I take my 3 obese cats to the vet, I'm the one being shamed.0 -

I think he was trying to shame me into buying their "diet" food. Seems they have a "diet" food that adjusts the cat's metabolism to match how much they are eating. I'm like, Uhm. . . why don't they have that for humans????0 -
Yeah, kitty could stand to lose a few pounds, for health reasons already stated. But, she's found MFP, and is ready to begin her fitness journey. Tell her it's not a diet, it's a lifestyle change. Have her check out the sexypants thread, and commit to eating clean. Does she know her TDEE and BMR numbers yet? Tell her to weigh all of her food, down to the last piece of kibble, and get a heart rate monitor for her exercise tracking.0
