    I for many years was guilty of saying "nip it in the butt". My best friend finally told me I was saying it wrong a few years ago.

    My son, if someone coughs always asks, "do you need the heineken maneuver".

    So I was reading this book and they used the saying (well close anyway) "No Holes Barred", and I am thinking isn't it "No holds barred"? Thought maybe I was wrong for a minute there. What sayings have you or someone else gotten wrong?

    Sounds like you are letting them in all of the holes.

    I'm thinking of having the saying changed;)

    What bugs me is when people correct me if I say/write something along the lines of, "Do you want to go to the store with me and Sarah?" And the person says "It's Sarah and I." Because, in that case, it would be "me and Sarah." If I said "Me and Sarah are going to the store, do you want to go?" then yes, it should be "Sarah and I."

    Maybe they really are telling you that they are doing good works...and maybe that is their polite way to avoid answering the other question. It is kind of a personal question...unless you're just looking for the generic "I'm fine" answer, in which case, you don't *really* care how they are doing...which is sort of insensitive. You're cold.

    To be honest, I don't care how they are doing. It is just a greeting. I don't believe that most people who ask that question actually care about the truthful answer.

    If they are truly doing good, I want to hear about it. In that case, though, I would want to know specifics. They could say, "I've been rescuing kittens in my spare time." I would love to hear about that!

    As a child, I thought people were saying, "Do you, Jim, take Jane to be your waffley wedded wife?"

    My parents never provided me with a good enough explanation for why breakfast food was a part of the wedding ceremony.

    As I got older, I realized it couldn't be wafflely, so I thought and thought until I figured out that they were saying "Awfully."

    Haha, I just got into an argument with my mom a couple weeks ago over this. No mom, it's not butt. :laugh: Oh, I had a good laugh.
