"Stop worrying about what other people think."

Ah yes, the brilliant advice of someone fit/thin/buff/popular/rich/insert whatever other privilege. Cool story bro. Try being a dude that's 100+ pounds overweight. You'll find out pretty riki tik you need to worry what women think because the majority of them just ain't havin' it. Yeah, yeah. Everyone is Mr/Ms independent and runs around changing "I do what I want." BS. More likely you want to do what gets you results.

I am 100+ overweight and all the ladies want me.

I know you clearly have something against me making this thread, but the purpose of this thread was to address an issue that seems to be pretty common in society - conforming, trying to seek everyone's approval, and not focusing on your OWN self perceptions.

I don't feel like I need approval or any kind of validation because I'm pretty passionate about my views and secure in my own skin but thanks for the concern pal :)

NO. Just... No. See... what I have an issue with is you arbitrarily assigning a motive to everyone who has ever made one of those threads, mounting some self-constructed soap box, and leading a mean girls rally against a straw man. I have no idea who starts those threads or why. Neither do you. I maintain that it is at least as likely that they do so to encourage discussion rather than seek validation, but, like yours, my opinion is pure conjecture. The difference between you and I is that you wrap yourself in that conjecture and take shots at people you know nothing about who aren't here to defend themselves. You mock the "others". I at least have the decency to challenge you to your face rather assigning random motives and assailing you based on those motives. Do you see the difference? What you're doing is what governments and religions have been doing for centuries. It makes nothing better. It makes the world a really ****ty place.

"take shots at people you know nothing about who aren't here to defend themselves" - You are doing the exact same to me. All I did was voice my own personal opinion and call out an unhealthy way of thinking that seems to be an issue here. And it is an issue and there's no point in denying it just for the sake of arguing with me. In all honesty I did not expect so many people to agree with me - I expected either an empty thread with no replies, or a ton of people bashing me.

"I maintain that it is at least as likely that they do so to encourage discussion rather than seek validation" - Show me at least one thread where the OP is looking to "encourage discussion" instead of whittling about other people's views on their appearance, because I believe you'd have a hard time finding one.

For a minute I thought I had just wasted my time with this thread and felt dumber for reading it. Now I don't. Spot on.

This isn't going to be the popular answer. But, if you really need that kind of validation (or whatever you want to call it), there is probably a fetish site out there devoted to whatever body you have.

I just want to add that when I said this, I was not putting anyone down. I was in fact advocating it, if you are into that sort of thing.

The mental gymnastics required to make these statements is astounding. I am absolutely not doing the exact same to you. I am speaking directly to you, not to some unnamed "other". And if all you wanted to do was voice your opinion about validation seeking then you could have started yet another thread about validation seeking. But you didn't want to do that, did you? Why? My guess is because you knew that no one would bother clicking on it. But that's just a guess because I don't know you. And since I don't know you I am not going to be a pedantic *kitten* and assign motives to you based on nothing more than a hunch. Instead I will allow you to be an actual human being and even, heaven forbid, entertain the possibility that you could have motives which even I, in my infinite wisdom, fail to grasp. This, you see, is a courtesy you failed to extend to the people making those threads. And that... THAT... is why I am not doing the same thing to you.

How do you not understand this? I can't show you an example of a thread where the OP intended anything other than what the OP said they intended because I DO NOT READ MINDS! And neither do you! You cannot know anyone's motivation for starting a thread. It requires Ninja-level arrogance to not only assume that you can know what motivated a stranger, but to be completely incapable of grasping the idea that you might not have that ability. It's stunning, really.

I understand PERFECTLY what you are saying, and what you are trying to say about me is invalid and I feel like I'm repeating myself pointing out why you are making false assumptions and how what you're saying is contradictory.

You seem to take so much offence to my thread and I can't fathom how someone could get this angry about it lol. I'm suddenly a terrible person and "ninja level arrogant" because I made a VALID point which you simply just did not agree with, or it may have touched a nerve.

You truly believe that you made a VALID point by assuming that everyone who starts a certain type of thread does so for the same reason, and that you can magically know that reason and therefore have the right to criticize them for starting those threads, and you don't understand why I call you arrogant? Jesus.

Here's what I don't get. You are able to read minds well enough to know what all those other people were thinking when they started their threads, but you can't read my mind well enough to understand why I think you are a self-aggrandizing bully. What's wrong, Kreskin? Does your magic 8 ball keep telling you to ask again later?
