Still haven't heard anything... Although they did update my status on the website to "interviewed."

FatOldManMN that is a good one!

They never even asked the stupid question.

people still ask this question outright?

anyway OP you answer with a time you failed at something professionally and follow up with what you learned from the experience.

pretty much in all interview questions you should give specific answers with specific examples otherwise people will be able to tell you're BSing

Thank them for considering you for the opportunity. Tell them what impressed you about the company or the department you were being considered for. Let them know you would like to keep in touch and would like to be considered for future openings.

    "Skydiving"

My husband and I had this discussion a few years back. My son who was 7 at the time asked what a weakness was. We explained it to him and he said he weakness was skydiving. When we asked him why, he stated that it was because he had never done it!
  • I have a big interview today at 4:00pm.

    Woot! Go me!

But I always inevitably get asked this question.

    How do you answer it?

    "What is your greatest weakness?"

Because a truthful "fiddling on my cell phone instead of paying attention" will probably NOT win me the job.

Please help and thank you in advance!

    :flowerforyou:

I sat through a 5 interview process with a firm recently and was handed a few of these; "What is your greatest weakness?" "Now tell us, why shouldn't we hire you?"

My response - "Has anyone ever provided an adequate answer to a question like this?"

Personally I don't think there is a good answer. If you can tell the individual may have a sense of humor turn the question on them.

The best answer is an honest one with steps you are taking to improve in that area.

What this question is really asking is "will this person be a liability or pose a risk to my organisation."

This question is also a measure of self-awareness and someone who is not aware that they have ANY weaknesses is not very mature. Make sure your answer is truthful, whatever the weakness, and follow it up with what you have done to overcome that weakness.

If you're asked this question during an interview in the future, try this:

Them: "What is your greatest weakness?"

You: "Well, at this exact moment, it's that I am currently not working for your company, however, I'm hoping we can work together to overcome this obstacle."

One I tend to use: "I have a tendency to do things myself so I know I'll get them done, rather than relying on my team mates. As a result, I tend to overload myself with work. I can be a team player, but I want to be the Quarterback."

I'm going to steal this one for myself!
