How fast can you run/walk a mile?

As part of a 10K, which I do regularly (ish) I will run about an 8 minute mile. Various conditions will affect this and it's best to judge it over a period of time.
But unless you're racing you only need to test you against you (and you don't even have to do that if you don't want to).
You've done the hard part and well done for that. Don't beat yourself up if you're slower than anyone else (and I apprecaite that may not have been the point of the post).

I do a " jalk". I guess my pace now is about 16:45 a mile. I am progressing to where I jog more than walk. I do have a repaired knee. I think I favor it more than I should.....0

I actually do 2 miles almost everyday (I'm new to running) not just one. I'm thinking of just sticking to running 2 miles until i feel like i can do more. :-)0 -

I'm a speed-walker; I don't run at all. I can walk a mile in 13 min. I can do 7 miles in 85 min. Just keep adding on gradually and enjoy seeing the progress you're making!0 -
Can race walk a 12-13 minute mile, and run a mile in 8-10 minutes. My best 5k was in 27 minutes, I'd love to get it down to 24 though.0

The fastest I've done is just under 12 minutes but I didn't stop at that mile either so I was pacing myself. I also am alway pushing a double jogging stroller with 50+ pounds of kids . Maybe I should go on an early morning mile run without the kids and see what I can do!0

I walk at a pretty brisk pace, pushing a stroller and draging a dog behind me that has to pee on something every 50ft it takes me about 15 minutes to go a mile. I'm not a fan of running (asthma induced by exercise, makes it rough on me), but now I'm thinking I should load up on my inhaler tie on my shoes, and see what I can do at a jog0

It depends on how far I'm running. If I am just going one mile and I push myself I will go about 7 1/2 minutes. But on a three mile run I usually go 11 minute miles. Longer and they are more like 12 minutes.
If I walk and stay focused then I do 15 minute miles. If my mind wanders I go slower!0 -
Alternating running and walking works really well for me. I got in 7.5 miles yesterday in less than an hour and 20 minutes.

Started doing 5Ks this year. My first one in early May was 41:22 roughly 13min miles. Last night I finished one in 36:44 or 11 1/2 min miles.0

You are to be commended for just getting out and walking! Who cares how fast or slow, you're doing it and that's excellent! BRAVO!
Amen....i just started MFP and did 4 1/2 miles yesterday in 60 minutes - keep at it and before you know it, you will be down to the 13 minute range...stick with it - it is fun to see the improvement and the calories burned wrack up!!

As others have said, don't compare yourself with others. The world record for the mile is 3:43.13 (men's) and 4:12.56 (women's). Most of us can't dream of coming within a minute of that, no matter how hard we train.
Concentrate on improving compared with your own past results. That's a lot more productive.

Don't worry too much about what other people are doing. If we compares ourselves to others we will, no matter how good we are, always fall short.

My fastest flat 5K time is 30:42, so an average of 10 mins 14 seconds.0

In my fastest mile I can power walk one mile in a little over 13 minutes. I have long, strong legs that can go fast! I aim to average 15 minute miles so I can do 4 miles in one hour in the evenings.
I'm not sure about running. Running is hard on my joints so I just keep it at power walking or brisk walking/jogging intervals when I'm short on time or want a higher calorie burn.0 -

I'm around a 15 minute mile. When I really push myself I can get just under the 15 minute mark. The breathing thing and I are not on good terms if I push much more though.0

My fastest mile that I know of was 7:13 according to Runtastic. My average mile is 8:15 - 8:30.0

I also started running a few weeks ago. My 1st mile was 11:58; pushed myself the other day to see how fast I could run a mile and it was 9:54, though I don't think I can sustain that pace much longer than that (yet!) I'm just thrilled that for the first time in my life I can continuously run for a mile! Currently on a beginner 5k program (and that's just the beginning) so hopefully I keep getting better, stronger, faster :-)0

On a treadmill, I usually train at an 8 minute mile. Outdoors, my trail run (run up a mountain and down) 5K pace is about 10 min/mile.0

In high school, I ran under 7 minute miles. Now I am happy with walking 13-14 minute miles. Vein doctor told me no more running after I did a 5k three years ago and had severe pain and swelling in my legs a few hours afterward. Not worried about my time anymore. Just glad that I'm out there and moving to the best of my ability.0

not been jogging long but i can manage it in under 8minutes just jogging ..that is on a flat surface though..not tried outdoors yet0
