Thigh gaps and thinspo

OK so can you fix the belly part too? :laugh:0

Thanks, doll. I had a feeling.... it's kinda like IRL photoshopping. You see some of the crazy poses they put magazine models in and you just have to figure there's something behind that.
I'm a stocky Sicilian girl and so that's what I'm workin' if you know what I mean: I'm looking to create a little muscle definition. Gaps would not be a part of this image lol. Sadly I got sick with some stomach crud for a few weeks, couldn't work out, and pretty much lost all the gains I made at the gym. Feel like I'm starting over from scratch. Sigh!0 -
OP, lovely post!:flowerforyou:
I have one question....
What's a thinspo?? I've never heard/read this term...0 -

"Thin inspiration", and largely a part of pro-anorexia communities.0 -
Ah right! I see! Ok, thanks!:drinker:0

Yep! And there's another term called "fitspo" or "fitspiration". It's more of a healthy lifestyle/exercise community tag and term that you may come across as well.0 -

But at least you're starting over! It's good that you gave yourself time to recover, even if it meant missing gym time. Now you can start fresh with a body that's healthy and ready to get back to it!0 -
Great thread. Oh, and I want your leggings, they're adorable.
Thank you! I got them at Marshall's, only $7.99! They have a lot of these unsymmetrical pattern leggings out this fall.
Brb, off to Marshall's
Just watch out, you may leave with a wok like I did along with these leggings, haha.

It's no laughing matter! Who was the jerk who decided to make it possible to buy clothes and housewares in the same store?!0 -
Thank you! It kills me when I see naive people stressing over the damn thigh gap. I think I'd have one if I didn't have so much fat in my thighs, since I have such wide hips. And sometimes I wish I had one. Buuuuuuuuut I'm okay with it, if I never lose enough weight in my thighs, whatever.0

THAT'S what a thigh gap is?! I have that, and I'm still 20 lbs overweight!0

Exactly, it has nothing much to do with weight so much as having a certain build, so I tend to think it a bit silly when people aspire to get one by unnatural means.0 -

Nice post
I have wide hips for my frame so I've always had a "thigh gap" but didn't even know it until a year or two ago, when people started making a big deal about it. Anyway, you're right, it's not of any importance and not worth going to crazy lengths to achieve.0 -

Sorry, off topic, but I tried on a 2,000.00 Vera Wang dress in a store like this, then almost bought a new toilet seat as well. Talk about one stop shopping.0 -
There were some days this past summer that I secretly wished I had a thigh gap because my thighs rubbing together when I was running was unbearable! :laugh:0

I'm so glad the thigh gap hadn't been invented back when I was young enough to care about such things! I hate all the terms used to vilify women's bodies that didn't exist back then either: muffin tops, bingo wings, saddle bags etc. All just ways to make us spend, spend, spend.0

Love this, thanks! I've never had a thing about the 'thigh gap' I know my body isn't destined to have one and that's ok! I had never actually thought about manipulation as a means to appear to have one (I don't know why, I'm normally onto that sort of funny business!) but your post has given me some food for thought!0

This should be a sticky.I think the most unattractive thing is that the media has drilled it home through Photoshop and advertisements that you need one to have a perfect body.
Who defines perfect? As soon as you achieve the latest "perfect', advertisers are going to change it so you buy more junk.0 -

True that.0 -
Yep, at my lowest weight ever, I had a BMI of 18.0, which is underweight, and I still didn't have a thigh gap (fat tends to store in my thighs and hips, and I'm slightly knock-kneed). I have friends who have much higher BMIs who have thigh gaps. The 'thigh gap' thing is mostly bone structure--and both having and not having a thigh gap is great.0

Yup. The day we finally decide to love our bodies (men and women both), a lot of those businesses will weep. Because there wont be money in them anymore. They pretty much thrive by convincing us, at least once a year, that something about us is imperfect and we need to fix it.0 -

Haha yup. People don't get this. It has nothing at all to do with whether you're skinny or not. It is largely bone structure and genetics or manipulation. Emaciation can cause it, too, but that is just a sign that the person is far from healthy (and even then it doesn't always cause it).0 -

Yep! I have a really tiny one now, but I've never had a full gap in my adult life. Only time I ever had one (if you can consider it one)was when I was a child...but I was pretty underweight (and under height for my age), and my metabolism was incredibly fast. Now, not so much.

Missed this comment back then, just saw it now while re-reading. Definitely agree!0 -
I don't stay up with social media much so the term "thigh gap" is a new one on me. But I totally dig the idea behind your message. I understand when people want to lose weight, for what ever reason because I have another 15 to lose after having lost 50. But we all get the body we get and ALL bodies are different. I worked in the entertainment industry for years and it always blew my mind: The emphasis on unattainable, physical beauty that women and men alike have to watch and listen to every single day. It's disgusting! It took me years to recover from this. Now I just want to be strong, healthy and fit. For my heart. For my lungs. To live longer. Let's face it: In the end, we ALL end up looking the same anyway. Bones in a box. It's what we do with the time we have that matters. Sorry to ramble. This subject is a hot button one for me. I could go on for days! Thanks for the post. And to the dude who thinks this should be on FB: This is actually the BEST place for it to be.0
