I'm not saying give up your boozing (I certainly haven't) but make room for it in your daily allowance. :drinker:0 -

I was disappointed that it wasn't bear.0

**notice**
There are varieties of meat - polar bear. For instance, raw (Alaska Native) meat -polar bear - contains 130 calories per 100g (36 cals per oz). This makes it about average for foodstuff.

I've actually always wanted to try bear. Not like I'm ever going to go to a place where they can exact their revenge, besides a zoo.
But whatever alcohol you drink has to be burned before going back to burning calories, be it fat or whatever is in your gut. Beware, but enjoy. Cheers.0 -
Hahaha  ...I thought you actually meant bear, and thought hmmm that cant be right... can you buy&eat bear meat!?0

Damn, I clicked to see who was eating bear!!! Oh well :-) Info on beer:
It's been estimated that a man drinking five pints of beer a week consumes the same number of calories as someone getting through 221 doughnuts a year (UK Dept of Health).
With seven calories per gram, alcohol has almost the same calorie content as pure fat! Yet alcohol has no nutritional value, and despite its calorific content, may actually make you feel more hungry instead of less, as it lowers your blood sugar.
Spirits, wine and light beer and light cider have less calories than regular beer and cider. A single vodka and coke, rum and coke or gin and tonic is 120 calories, while a shot (25ml) of whisky is around 55 calories. A medium-sized glass of wine (175ml) contains about 125 calories, although a bottle would be over 500 calories.(Drink Aware Website, UK)
I hope this helps :-)0 -
Well GorillaNJ hunts bear and drinks beer. That's the man to see.0

I would say that it is both beer and bear; however all I really know about is the bear. I had it once a long time ago and it was greasy and stringy. I assume it was from an older bear. I have since found out that if you want to eat bear meat, get a young one because the meat on older bears can get wormy. Now there's a thought that will help keep your weight down...
I learned this tidbit of info while in AK recently.0 -
I would stick to a 64 cal beer, or learn to like vodka and diet coke ( which really isn't that bad!) and if someone ever tried bear let me know!LOL!0

BEER! OK, I was like who the hell is eating BEAR. I don't know about beer, I don't drink the stuff.

Someone posted about rabbit the other day, so you never know about bear...
All beers vary in calories. Most micros are pretty bad. Wheat beers and IPAs are the worst. Eat This Not That just posted an article a few days ago about best and worst beers.0 -

best thread ever!!!!
Here in CA we can hunt and eat bear but i have trouble getting past the game smell. it tends to be oilly and chewy so both help keep me from wanting to try more then a bite.
second... I find that some nutrition info on this site is inaccurate at best. check your label and/or look for foods with multiple confirmations. similalry if you are looking up a food and find a correct or incorrect info change it and/or confirm that it is right so we have the most accurate info on this site.0 -
I did not get a bear this year... but I had plenty of beer. And the last 10 years of my life can attest that it is fattening.0

i'm here for the same reason. to find out about bear. i make a zillion typos.0

to answer the question you wanted to ask. Yes, all alcohol is a bad choice. Not necessarily because of the calories though, while Alcohol does contain 7 calories per gram, that's not the issue. the issue is because of how alcohol is perceived in the body. The body perceives it as a poison (essentially), and because it can be burned, it prioritizes it above other types of energy (I.E. carbs), so when you drink alcohol, the body essentially puts other calories on hold until it's gone. This is fine if you don't do it often and don't do it in large quantities, but if you have it often or in large quantities, it can and will cause you to gain fat. This is true of any type of alcohol.
this doesn't include any of the other reasons alcohol is bad for you either, I.E. liver damage, kidney damage, brain issues, decreased ability to make good choices, the hangover factor, dehydration...etc.0
