I don't know about larger sizing, but this is what I would consider for the following for my approximate height of 5'9:

    overweight 16-20
    chunky 14-16
    normal 8-12
    skinny 5-7
    super skinny 0-3

[This is obviously just my opinion & I mean no offense to anyone.]

*for me* and my height, I would say 0-2 is super-skinny (read: unhealthy skinny), 4 is skinny, 6-8 is normal, 10 is chunky, 12 is over-weight, Anything bigger than that on *me* is fat or worse. I have worn all of the sizes from 0-12 as an adult.

I am 5'5", have no boobs, no hips, but I do have a tushie.

that is tough to judge due to the fact that we all are different heights and frames. This affects your size! There are super skinny people who wear a larger size due to their frame and then there are really short overweight ppl who have a smaller jean size than someone that is taller and of average size.

Try using the BMI calculator under the tools secton. It will tell you whether you are obese, overweight, or a healthy weight. Other labels can be very subjective.

It really depends on your body type and where you carry your weight. I have a larger lower half. I wear a 14 pants but a 10-sometimes 8 top. If you meet me sitting down I don't look that big.

Here's another thing to think about: Different manufacturers have different sizes. A size 10 in one place may be larger than a 12 in another brand.

Don't let the number in your pants dictate who you are or your self worth.

I have no clue but for myself. When I was 170lbs I wore 12/13 now that I am around 140 my favourite pair is a 4, but I think a 6 is average for me now. My jeans that aren't a 4/6 are a 29 waist and I believe when I was 12/13 it was 32/34. I am 5'5".

I currently wear anywhere from a size 4 to a 14, depending on the jeans. Sizing is irrelevant.

I've often wondered the same thing; but honestly I don't think jean size tells anything about a person's size. Consider that a somewhat chunky lady with a petite frame may wear the same jean size as a slender lady with a larger bone structure. Does that make sense?

Where you fit in the catergories you listed would have more to do with your BMI than jean size. I've known ladies that wore a size 12 and were at a perfect weight. Don't ever let the world of anorexic models tell you that you have to be under a size 2 to look great!

Well, they say the average woman wears a size 14 and mine is higher than that. My daughter wears a Zero :( cry I remember those days. Size don't matter as long as you are comfortable with yourself. Keep it up :)

As others have said, it all depends on height, body type and where you are buying the clothes!

For myself, I'd consider myself skinny if I ever fit into an 8 again (last time I wore an 8 I was 108 pounds and at mid-range healthy BMI). But based on posts I see on here, I'd assume many see that as normal at best. So... mine for ME only -- that's for a really short extreme pear body shape where I'm often just buying jeans to fit my hips! (I also have never really made a distinction in my mind between chunky/fat/overweight so I really guessed there.)

    1. extremly fat 20
    2. fat -- 18
    3. overweight - 14-16
    3. chunky - 12
    4. normal - 8-10
    5. skinny - 8
    6. super skinny -- 4-6

Have to say I'd love to just be back in the "fat" jeans right now...

I echo above that it really depends on body frame and type and whatnot..but to answer your question this is what I would consider for ME (note; I'm 5'3" and have a small bone frame):

    1. extremly fat - above a 15
    2. fat - 15 (12)
    3. overweight - 13 (10)
    3. chunky - 11 or 9 (8 or 6)
    4. normal - 7 or 5 (4 or 2)
    5. skinny - 3 or 1 (0)
    6. super skinny - 0 or 00

P.S. I tend to use jrs sizing so i put the women's equivilant (again, for me) in parathesis. Not everyone will match between women's and jrs but mine is pretty consistent.

sizing is irrelevant. I am 5'7 and my friend who is 5'6 not that big of a difference? Well she weighed 45 lbs more than me and wore a size 14 jeans. At the time I wore an 18.

It all depends on body size, the rise, and make of the jeans. As well as how willing you are to squish in and out of them.LOL.

I'm not willing to have muffin top to fit into a smaller pair of jeans. Or have them so tight my behind is smushed.

These are US sizes right? Then I at 173cm (5'8) and an AU size 16 would be a 12. But there are so many discrepancies is sizing between brands it's often difficult to say what we really are. Here in Australia as a 16 (in jeans) i'm considered fat and disgusting and downright revolting despite my height and frame- I have to shop at Target most of the time and fit myself because shop assistants in specialist stores won't serve me. That very number seems to send people running.

I think we need to re-evaluate the way we look at sizing in relation to self-worth and stop applying our own labels and just be healthy.
