Hi all.
Does anyone log the calories for fruit and non cooked veggies?
I have recently heard that other popular weight loss plans are not doing this anymore and the fruit tends to raise the sugar you've eaten, even though it's good sugar.....

Yes I log them. There are still calories in raw veg & fruit...0

I log everything that I consume period.0

Yes, I do. First of all, they all have calories. Secondly, they all give you nutrition - some have higher amounts of fat (avocado, for ex) or sugars in them, and that all gets logged. That way I more accurately keep track of what I'm eating. Everything counts.0

Yes I generally log everything partly because I want to be sure I dont exceed my calories and partly so I can keep an eye on my fibre, vitamin c and iron. But... if I have done exercise I am less concerned about weighing my veg (as long as they aren't starchy). I do always weigh and add fruit though.0

Of course. If you are counting calories you need to count all of them or it's not very accurate is it? More out than in=weight loss.0

I log it all. WW moved to not counting fruit and veggies to encourage people to make better food choices. But they still have calories! I eat at least 5 f/v a day at about 300 calories total. If I didn't log them I would be eating too much!0

Yes, of course. Those foods have calories, so they count toward your calorie total (and for me, if I didn't count fruits/veg I'd be waaaaaaaay under my calorie target, since that is mostly what I eat in a day). Weight watchers doesn't count (most) raw veg and fruit, but they take that into account (one assumes) with the points target that they give their participants. In my opinion, you can't really mix plans and expect to get good results.0

I log everything -- but I don't tend to be as careful with measuring veggies. They're so low in calories, being over by an ounce is not a big deal to me. Plus, I try(!) to stay under my goal anyway, not eating back all my exercise calories.0

i do cause i log EVERYTHING!!!
but i understand your point...when i eat a lot of fruits...it always puts me over my sugar intake!!!
but its ok, cause like you said...its good sugar!0 -
When I am actively trying to lose weight, I keep track of everything. In the past, when I've reached the goal weights I've set, I don't keep track of raw vegetables or raw fruit anymore. It has never, ever caused me to gain weight back, even this past July and August when I literally ate a pound of blueberries some days.0

I log everything the goes into my mouth.. Even if its a piece of gum or a breath mint.. The other week when I was sick I even logged cough drops cuz they have 15 calories each..0

Yep even when I try something new and it is nasty so I throw it away I just figure out the precentage that I ate.0

Yes I do.. if you count calories you should be logging it. Fruits and veggies are healthy but you can't eat unlimited amounts and stay within a calorie limit. An average apple has 60-70 calories - now if you eat 10 of them that's 6-700 calories! Veggies are lower in calories but I log them anyways just for accuracy's sake.0

I can understand this in a way as these are good foods and the type of weight they are going to add is very much different than other foods that have sugar in them.
I have not been logging most fruit and veggies (cooked, yes) and I have continued to lose weight most weeks. I guess if you go over your calorie count and a couple hundred calories is fruit or veggies, that wouldn't be so much of a concern as compared to donuts or chips.
However, if most people are logging them, then I think I will and see if my results change.

Log/track everything that goes into your mouth. I even log my water when I remember so I can look back and see if there was a difference in my weight loss when I drink more or less.0 -

I log it anyways, just to keep track of what I'm eating and when I'm eating it. Your body doesn't recognize WHAT calories your eating, just that you ARE eating...True that caloires and sugars from fruit and vegetables are used more efficently, and are more healthful for you (not to mention the fibre), but I"m just talking the calorie count here. Also, logging it helps YOU to keep track of how many you've eaten. I like this site because it helps me to stay honest, and logging it keeps a few things like candy to nibble on out of my mouth~ I hate to try to figure out HOW to log those so I just don't eat it...seems to help me.0

Of COURSE you should log them all! But I do agree with MissMandy: I'm not so concerned whether I have 1.5 cups or 1.3 cups of raw broccoli. I can live with those mis-loggings. (Is that a word?!) BUt I do log it all, and in fact, also want reminders to myself on whether I've got in healthy servings of veggies.0

You're right in one sense - the sugars from fruits is broken down differently than the simple sugars in donuts/candies. BUT if you're not burning off those calories from fruit and your glycogen stores are full (so they won't be stored there), they'll turn into the same fat that the donut turns into. By no means am I saying they're unhealthy or anything, but you can't eat unlimited amounts of fruit on top of your regular calorie intake and expect to lose weight.0 -

I log everything with the exception of spices, only because it's too hard to weigh a "dash" of this, a "dash" of that.
Weight Watchers changed their points system so fruits are now zero points. They did this so people will make healthier choices. In the past, two cookies and an apple were both counted as 2 points. Guess which one most people selected?0 -
I log it all. Partially for accuracy, partially to help remind myself what I need to work into the daily menu. Just like I log my daily multivitamin. It doesn't have cals, but it helps remind me to take it.0

Definitely.
Bananas can easily be over 100 calories. A handful of baby carrots can be around 50. I can understand WW is trying to encourage people to make better choices, but this can easily lead to people over eating without really thinking of it.
Also, if you're tracking any of the other nutrients in your diary, you need to keep in mind, fruit adds carbs, or like my spinach in my morning omelet contained protein, fiber, and believe it or not, all foods have sodium levels, even raw fruit and veg. So if that is an issue for you you'll want to be sure to log.
So far I've logged about 50 calories worth of vegetables today. And that doesn't include the amounts that are in the recipes that I've calculated in the recipe section and then logged.

Logging them also helps me keep track of how much I'm including them in my diet, which is a goal I have for every day.0 -

Maybe that's why some of us are having such a good success rate with the approach taken here at MFP and haven't had success with "other popular weight loss plans".0
