I haven't eaten at McD's since I was a kid. There is nothing there for a vegetarian. They flash fry their french fries in lard (blech)....and nothing is healthy.

it's actually 100% vegetable oil. still not healthy! but no lard at all.

Not true. It has beef stock in it. I don't know about lard, but I do know they are not vegetarian.

yeah, it has some beef "extract" (whatever that is) in it for flavor. the oil itself is 100% vegetable. Zero lard (pork fat) and zero tallow (beef fat).

Pretty much everything at McDonalds is unhealthy

This is what I assume, I don't know why people still eat there...

Because some people think it tastes good. And life is to be enjoyed. Honestly, it isn't a complicated riddle. Nothing there will hurt you or your weight loss or being healthy, as long as you are aware of what you are doing. Be smart about your decisions. But don't let alarmism and the-sky-is-falling mentalities keep you from living.

    ^^This.

Seriously, the oatmeal they serve isn't any less healthy than what you make at home. Just because it comes from a fast food place doesn't make it unhealthy.

Those apple slices they serve with Happy Meals now aren't suddenly unhealthy because they come from McDonald's.

nope. you're wrong. if you even drive past a fast food place, you will gain one pound. God help you if you get stuck by one on a corner when the light turns red.

    "Maple," "brown sugar," "apples."

    Of course it has sugar.

My fruit smoothie, which is nothing but berries, bananas and a T of no-sugar-added peanut butter is 66 grams of sugar. 62 of those are from the fruit.

If I drank that for breakfast, I would pass out by 10 am. I'm insulin resistant. Fruit sugar is still sugar, to your body.

At McDonald's my best choice is an Egg McMuffin (no cheese or meat) OR scrambled eggs and an English muffin.

well, that doesn't help. but I think it's just breathing in the air from inside and around the fast food building. it also gives you cancer and makes you grow a sixth toe. the little one. but only on your left foot.

It's only bad if you don't get in your essentials and over consume it on a regular basis.

Your being insulin resistant has nothing whatsoever to do with whether the oatmeal is healthy. It means YOU shouldn't eat it because of a specific condition. Just like someone else having Celiac doesn't mean *I* shouldn't eat bread.

And you seemed to have completely glossed over the point of my post. I don't see how anyone is surprised that something with maple, brown sugar and apple slices has sugar in it. McDonald's is not hiding anything. And most people would agree that a smoothie with five fruit servings has a lot of health benefits, regardless of the sugar content. It's all unprocessed, whole, from the earth food.

There's a big difference between "This food is healthy" and "This food can fit into a reasonably healthy diet when consumed in moderation."

I didn't tell you or anyone else what to eat. As for your smoothie, I'm sure it has health benefits, but it would be too much sugar for *me*.

I had a 50-minute strength training workout. I took protein shake, oatmeal, and 2 McDonald's breakfast McMuffin (sausage + egg).
    I am fine! =]

Sometimes, it is all about fitting the food into your daily caloric intake. If you can hit your macros with 2 McMuffin, it is all right to consume them ... provided you do it once in a while. You want your nutrients to come from other sources too!

Anyone who thinks ANYTHING they're getting at McDonalds is healthy is fooling themselves.

However, it's better to get an oatmeal than a steak, egg, and cheese bagel and hash browns. And it's better to get a salad than a big mac and fries. I never eat fast food, but for the people who do, at least there are halfway decent options available.

LOL why would anyone be stupid enough to eat that - especially from McDonalds...!

News flash. I eat it on Friday mornings as a treat to myself. And....I am not stupid. So thanks for that.

yeah seriously who cares about your smoothie? but btw just because it has nutrients doesnt mean that takes away the sugar content. if i had that every morning i would gain weight too. and probably crash in an hour. too much sugar no matter how nutrient dense it is. but if it works for you who cares? good for you keep it up!

and we would be a match made in food-issue heaven....or hell depending on how you look at it :p. at least we would never waste any food! and probably eat for cheap haha because we could share everything lmaoooo

Well, clearly someone cares or she wouldn't have quoted my post and responded to it.

My point was, the TOPIC of this thread is how unhealthy the oatmeal is simply because of sugar content.

Lexie -- That's a nice chart, but I think it compares the McD's oatmeal with maple, brown sugar and apples added to plain Quaker and McCann's, which is comparing apples to oranges. Add some sugar, milk, whatever to the other oatmeals and their numbers will be about equal to the McD's. The sodium is the only thing that would probably change, but then a lot of people add salt to their homemade oatmeal.

Compare like to like to get a true idea.

And the McD's oatmeal has 2 grams of saturated fat. That isn't a lot.

Also, if it tastes good ... if you like to eat it ... get some. Keep it within reason. 99 percent of the time, fit it into your daily limits. And enjoy. Too many people turn weight loss into a chore. You can still eat food you like. It only becomes unhealthy when and if you eat too much.

People who think anything mass produced like that is going to be healthy are retarded. It's designed to be cheap.
