    I had my 250ml today, very proud of my rationing:happy: Dh did wonder what was the yellowish coloured liquid in a funny container on the fridge, "not having any doctor check ups are you:noway: he asked". I had to dig hard in the cupboards to find a wee glass at home. I I put 50ml in my usual size wine glass it barely touches the bottom of the glass. So.. having found a glass (which incidentally was taken one night from an Indian restaurant so I could finish my wine in the car journey home - no - I wasnt driving) 50ml makes it LOOK like a glass of wine... its all in the mind...
    I just cannot drink soft drinks with my dinner..yuk.... need that little wine kick with my main meal..
    I am saving a few calories for the weekend for a real top up though:bigsmile:
    But marching by the supermarket aisle with the deep rich red cabernets, ignoring those cheeky wee chillieans, and as for a dark rich Bordeaux, I am BLIND:ohwell:
    Now, if only it was summer..I would go on the iced spritzers:glasses:
    Meanwhile, not a bad day here in the Blondie household.. detoxing is agreeing with me:wink:
    Night all!

    1 Monday

    Tonight is Hubby's night at grad school, and I'll have our 2 plus the neighbor kid for a few hours...I might need to stop for some wine.

    I always drink in the car when DH drives. It's a bad habit. :blushing:

    Good luck on no smoking! And congrats to those that have quit. My new Dr. is having me renew my efforts to quit smoking, so quit date is this Sat. He has me on Wellbutrin to help (will be on it for a wk this Sat). Hope it does! THEN, he'll get after me about the drinking and weight, I bet!! lol Well, I am still not drinking and, gee, lost 3.5 lbs just this week. I NEED to do this, I CAN do this!

    Love this site, I don't feel so alone!

    Hello lushes,
    Congrats to those of you that are trying to quit smoking as well as reduce the drinking. I know I only smoke 1/2 as much a day when we are not drinking. Need to have more of those days. I can't imagine drinking and not smoking so will be interested to hear how it goes.

    Tuesday=0 drinks! it was a struggle, but I did my 3.5 mile run and came home and had a salad. I had only 300 calories remaining and was still hungry, so instead of going to the tavern with DH I had a three chicken wings and chips and salsa leftover from Superbowl. Anyway, not the healthiest choice but I was only over a little, instead of a lot with a beer and sandwich and fries!

    Changing doctors is always a challenge! I changed from a long term doctor because he wouldn't give me natural thyroid medication that I wanted. The 2nd doctor was an integrative doctor but he gave me thyroid medication from a mail order pharmacist. Finally, my 3rd doctor was wonderful--She listened to me and I am now on the correct thyroid medication. Before I see my doctor, I write out questions for the visit. Good luck with your new doctor!!

    I am so happy to find this. Especially after the last two days that I have had. I have had some relationship issues, and I have been so upset and stressed. I couldnt take it anymore. I havent smoked since Christmas and have cut my drinking back to once a week and lately less than that. But I broke last night under the stress bought a pack of smokes and had 10 vodka and waters and smoked half the pack!

    generally if I have a drink, I cannot work out later. The only time I did was when I was doing 30DS for 30 days straight and I couldn't workout before meeting friends for happy hour. It was tough to workout with a buzz!

    Whoot Kim!

    I can't workout after drinking...but I will often have a SF Red Bull and Vodka on the way to play soccer or volleyball. :laugh: and :drinker:

    Monday=1
    Tuesday=0
    Wednesday=1

    Not too shabby...I realized that I was drinking multiple vodka drinks in an evening--rendering me sh!ttay and drinking the equilvalent calories of one hard cider (I'm not a huge beer fan.) But, if I drink one cider, I'm good. It takes me a while to drink, because I sip rather than slurp (like I do with vodka) and after 1 I feel like I'm done. Yay for progress and self-realization!!

    How's everyone else doing??

    2 Red Tuesday turned into 2 and a half with the buddy... then another at home... and with the extra wine went salami, swiss cheese, sourdough bread and olive oil for 450+ cals over the plan:tongue: .

    At this point I'm not sure I can stay dry Friday or stick with wine-not-beer this weekend, but I'm tired and we're not there yet. Maybe my resolve will strenghten after some zzzzzzzzs.:yawn:

    Amen to not working out after drinking:drinker: , not only do I never:noway: feel like it, (napping is right) BUT I'm so clumsy it could be dangerous. :laugh:

    What a great thread. Red wine is one of my weaknesses...beer is the other. I can do awesome during the week but when the weekend hits it's all over and I have gained the weight back that I lost during the week. I swear I have lost the same 5 lbs at least 8 times!

    Me too. I have been doing that for pretty much the last 3 years. So bad.

    Hey Everyone. I just found this thread and wanted to say hi to everyone. I saw the topic & I knew this was the place for me :happy:

    I firmly believe that alcohol is the entire reason why I am over weight, but I enjoy my wine or beer or vodka to much to just give it up all together. So I am glad to meet a group of people who feel the same way.

    I am trying to cut back. Because when I drink I want to eat so it just does not go well. And I am not one of those people who can just have one glass and be like oh that is good. No I need a few. I have been good though I have not had any since the super bowl. I am trying to stick to one day a week for drinks. But I am really craving a glass of wine right now so I may just give in for today, but I promise I will only have two :wink:

    I look forward to getting to know you all a little more here on the thread & wish you all luck with balancing your weight loss efforts with your love for a good drink!

    :drinker:

    Yesterday, had a mega busy day, anyway, cut a long story short, early evening, DH drives me to our supermarket (19 miles away) and says he will go on to the Indian Restaurant ( a further half hour away) and pick us up a takeaway. (yes I counted it:tongue: ). He picks me back up, we head home, and I am ready to relax with my chicken balti, when I go to measure my wine. I reached to get my glass.. empty space... "wheres my glass"??? DH says "OOOOH I saw it sitting out and took it back to the Indians!":angry:

    now i need to find a new glass :ohwell:

    I wish I liked vodka.. I just hate it (unless its in a flavoured martini).. I love the idea of drinking vodka and tonic.. or even gin and tonic.. : less calories for more kick than a glass of plonk!

    My other thought was I think we need a confessional box on here with a jury awarding penances? Anyone wanna be judge and jury?
    I think if I went off the wagon, and had a blow out, I'd feel much better if I could confess my intake on here, and someone gave me a calorie valued penance for my sins:smile:
    Just preparing myself for the inevitable!
    On a more positive note, we have a home pub (see my profile pic) which is in a barn conversion at our home. The bad news is we love to use it some weekends, the good news is this year we are renting that property out as a vacation let, so we CANNOT use it. So temptation for me to have a blast is being severely reduced this year. Very sad though..no more pub karaoke nights :sad:
    T-Total's a bit boring huh:huh:
    Have a good day everyone, and would the most honourable judge please step forward and take the stand!

    RJ!! PS! I love your dogs!!! I have three :)
  • It's so hard to do, but I've been doing really well with just having a couple glasses of wine or Michelob Ultras when I go out. I try to stay away from the fruity drinks because damn! Those calories are huge! It's getting easier to do as my diet gets better and I work out more. But Saturday will be a test. BBQ and then pub after. I think I'll stick to beer since I tend to nurse those more than wine. We'll see how it goes! Wish me luck!

    Blondie, I was wondering where the picture was taken! It's lovely, but I can see how it would hinder your attempt to cut down on the boozing. Our front patio and DH's kegerator works in the same manner. Our neighbors are over every evening whilst the kiddos run around the neighborhood. When it gets dark, we start a fire in the fire pit and continue to drink.

    Excellent job Robin! I'm still having a hard time balancing family, work, exercise, and the drinking...it's a process for sure.

    Welcome Delilah!

    I almost feel like we need a "Lushes, Stand and Be Counted!" thread. There's so many of us!! :smile: :drinker:

    Thank you! We'll see how the next few weeks go.

    Well, I broke last night and had about 9 Bud Lights. After not drinking for 4 days, and 4 more days before that (had drinks on Fri.) I can say I totally got blasted. And am paying for it today. lol This may just be the lesson I needed to stop after just a few beers!! I plan on NOT drinking tonight! Oh, and I gained a pound too.....:sad: Trying not to drink daily!!
