it subtracts from your 1735 by how much weight you want to lose. You probably clicked on 2lbs a week like all us do ...more the merrier:laugh: ....and it creates the deficit needed to help you achieve that.
If I have misinformed you I am sure someone will correct me but that is what I am lead to believe!!!

I'd answer you, but then I'd be feeding you a line of crud because I have no clue on the science of weight loss. Everyone else is probably waiting to see who gives an informed answer as well! Anyway, good luck on your quest!0 -

Your BMR is your Basal Metabolic Rate how many calories you need to consume to maintain your current weight. If you want to lose weight you need to eat less than that. MFP calculated that, and say you want to lose 2lbs a week, then you should proably eat about 1220 or you could even eat about 1300. My BMR is about the same as yours and I eat about 1300 cals a day. MFP told me to eat 1200.. but I just couldnt so I raised it and I am still losing weight at a great speed.0

I agree with runawaybride Point is regardless of the difference you wanna cut cals right? so cut 'em! Pick the lower of the two number and stick to it, or choose the higher one (so long as it's a cut from what your usual intake is) then swithc the the lower cal intake once you get acclimated0 -

wasn't my answer good enough ...not a professional but I know what I know j/k0 -
Also I started at 185 wanting to lose 55 pounds at 1 pound per week and it gave me 1530 cals. So maybe that helps you choose the number that sounds better/right?0

Ummmm ...
Put your left food in, put your left foot out, put your left foot in, and shake it all about???
Then count the calories you want to eat, divided by the calories you normally eat, add 1000, then times it by how many kids you have, plus how far it is to your mailbox, then subtract your age, and that should equal your needed calories!
Whewh!

MFP is creating a deficit between what your body already burns on a daily basis and what it needs to burn to lose weight. The first answer you got was close to right. Only it's not calculated just based on you BMR, it also takes into account your daily levels of activity (depending on what you clicked on: sedentary, lightly active, etc).0

To the best of my knowledge there are no professionals on this site. There are, however many people who have been here for a loooong time and have lost astounding amounts of weight. If you're especially confused view the FAQ section by clicking the Help button at the top of your screen.0 -

Ok I already saw that you posted on one of the other boards where it talked about exercise calories and HMR and all that good stuff. If you are looking for a quick fix or a way to loose weight unhealthy you are at the wrong place. You are very young and believe me there are no quick fixes, I' talking from experience if you loose it quick you will gain it back even quicker and then there will be lot's of friends that come back with the ones you lost.
Eat what MPF tells you on calories, eat your exercies ones too, (preferably natural foods, the less processed the better) and watch yourself become a healthy, lean beautiful woman.:flowerforyou:0 -

Well I have just lowered.. Honestly I have not been exercising like I should but I still do... For example I will bike to the store instead of drive and do things like that. Any chance I get I try to... But if I want to lose weight faster... then yes you HAVE to exercise.. its really the only way... The closer you get to your goal the harder you have to work for it. This IS NOT a quick easy thing thats for sure.0 -

no, your basal metabolic rate is actually how many calories you would burn in 1 day if you did nothing but rest (am I wrong?), not the amount that you need to eat to maintain your current weight.0 -

because, like we said, a deficit has already been set. making it lower by NOT eating excercise calories is unhealthy and can be dangerous.0 -

true. . . all true. too few calories don't make you lose weight faster, they make you stop losing weight because your body is excellent at maintaining your weight.
Exercise, eat well and practice patience. It really is the only way.:flowerforyou:0 -
Your BMR is your Basal Metabolic Rate how many calories you need to consume to maintain your current weight. If you want to lose weight you need to eat less than that. Your BMR is the amount of calories needed to support your body if you laid in bed and breathed all day. You should not be eating below this amount. MFP calculates a deficit from the amount of calories needed to maintain your current weight. For example, your BMR was about 1700. Then, for daily activities, say you need 600 calories (to brush your teeth, vacuum, go to work, etc). You require 2300 calories to maintain your current weight. Then, you tell MFP you want to lose 1.5 lbs a week. MFP will subtract 750 calories from your maintenance calories (2300-750=1550). Unfortunately, the one flaw MFP has is to allow people to eat below their BMR. So I would suggest you start with a one lb a week goal, that's 500 calories deficit/day, or 1800 calories. Then, if you exercise, you should eat those calories back because the deficit is already included in your net calories.
Hope this helps! Good luck!0 -
I don't always eat my exercise cal because I'm just not that hungery sometimes and I'm not going to go looking for calories because the site tells me to. This is here to help set up some goals while you rework your brain to function with your body's needs. I think the most important thing is to listen to your body...eat when you're hungry (not "taste" hungry but physical hunger), don't eat if your not. Learn that and you'll maintain the weight your own body tells you to. That includes exercise. But this is just my way of approaching it...
