My usual hair stylist is an Aveda trained stylist right downtown Toronto. She is amazing. I couldn't get to her, and needed a cut, so I went to a local stylist here in the 'burbs.

Yikes - he cut all my hair off!!!!!

It's just past my shoulders, and I'm used to really long hair! I've never had a bad cut before, and I feel really upset (which seems ridiculous, I know, - until it happens to you!!!). He also gave me this side swept bang, which I know I will never be able to style properly on my own, AND the whole thing looks a little Jennifer Aniston circa 1995 Friends-era. UGH!!!!

Just had to vent... so sad... any advice???

    Hey

Oh crud.....hate when that happens...I usually have more issues with cut then color
I don't know much you can do while it grows out
What do your friends/family have to say..maybe it isn't soo bad and you just need some time to get used to it?
Sorry that was lame...just trying to make u feel better

I have a super bad cowlick RIGHT in my bangs, and was given the side sweep bangs, the ONLY thing that gets them to resemble a side sweep instead of a bad toupe is a blow drier straight out of the shower. My hair laughs at flat irons.

OMGosh! You would be beautiful even if you had no hair!!! You are GORGEOUS!
Please don't worry about it. You might just need to get used to it.
I went through the same thing several years ago. I've always had long hair and decided to donate it to Locks Of Love. It was so short, I cried for weeks and wore a baseball cap. But after the shock was over I realized it wasn't so bad. It grew fast and I'm sure yours will too.

About a month ago I got my hair cut and when the girl finished she gave me this face...like she knew it wasnt what i wanted at all...and said "dont worry in about 2 months it will be just the length you wanted it" as if that would make me feel better, infact it made me feel soo much worse. I cried a little so I know how you feel

Thanks for the message - and you're sweet about the compliments. You know, I think I kind of hide behind my hair - is that odd? But I think I do. Oh well.

How nice that you gave your hair to Locks of Love (see, you are a real sweetheart!)... :flowerforyou:

Armywife - haha! you must be really curly then???

I am a stylist and trust me all of us get bad haircuts! I am also Aveda trained and have had my clients "cheat" on me and come back to have me fix it! Espically when they try to do their own highlights! TV makes it look so easy! Anyway I hate when the people you work with don't listen to what you want and cut it or color it how they want it! I specifically told a girl I was growing it out and next thing you know two inches was gone! Some people in this profession don't know what they are doing or think they know better!

Karma is a B*@#$ he/she will get hers!and don't cheat on your stylist!

    Have a great weekend!

I hid behind my hair too! I felt so "exposed" with it short...LOL (if you can understand that) I felt very strange...lol. I eventually went to the Katie Holmes angled bob (which BTW I had way before her..lol) But , yes, I know exactly what you mean.

Can I ask a proffesional question - do you think she can fix it? There is no fixing this!!! The bangs couldn't get shorter unless I went for a Mary Lou Retton bowl cut!

I promise to be faithful to my stylist... (btw she usually gives me the Aveda "Jessica")... I miss her... and my hair...

I would have to see a picture of how "bad" they are. We can work a lot of majic but sometimes there is not hope but a month of time! I would just stop in quick if you can and see if your normal girl can do anything. I know it is hard to always make it into town I am guilty myself, but just remember waiting another week till you can is worth it! Or try to find an Aveda place closer that you can go to when you can make it to your girl. Don't get me wrong, just because someone does or doesn't work for Aveda doesn't mean they are or are not qualified! Some of my best friends and stylists don't work for aveda it is just hard to know who to trust! I am sorry you had to go through this and please let me know how it goes!

    AJCM,

It's not at all ridiculous to be upset if you are unhappy with your haircut. Hair is really important to us girls!

I can completely relate to your situation. A couple of weeks ago I got my hair cut and colored by a stylist recommended by my stylist who is currently on maternity leave. She did an excellent job with my color, and I like the shape of my cut... it's just TOO short! I asked for two inches shorter, but it is more like four. I was upset about it for a couple of days, but I got used to it.

Funny I should find this discussion. I always wore my hair in a short cut I thought was 'professional'. Around 4 years ago I found a good hair stylist and set out to grow it long. My hair is now down to my mid back and I love it.

Yesterday I was thinking maybe I am too old (47) to have such long hair, felt like I was desperate for days of yore. (of course I was listening to disco)

Out of the blue a friend in a far off state called to say hi. She said she was looking through her pix of our recent trip, along with when we met 5 years ago. She said I look younger NOW! She thinks it is the hair.

How great the universe is to bring me that nice pick me up just when I needed it.

By the way, I credit my hair dude on getting long locks-has to color every 4 wks and has done an awsome job. :drinker:

    Have a great day!

I hate my hair. (which is why I wear a hat most of the time)

I have like 4 cow licks and even on the good days it's pretty much just controlled chaos (I'm glad spikey 'messy' looks are kinda in style otherwise I would be in trouble).

It's impossible to find a haircut for me that looks decent and still professional when I have to be on the job. If it were up to me I would just grow it back out and wear it pulled back (ahh the good ol days) but dear ol Franklin (Graham) would probably not appreciate one of his security team 'hippying' it up.

I saw a cute pic the other day at the salon while waiting to get my eyebrows done. I took a couple of days to decide if I wanted to go that short or not since I have never sone that. Then I saw this thread last night and it made me pretty nervous for my appointment this morning. I'm glad I decided to go for it anyway because I love it. I figured if it was bad then it would grow out again but if I never tried it and it was going to look great then I would miss out. We've all had a bad haircut but I'm glad this one isn't one of mine.

lol..I definitely suffer from what some call the "sampson complex" My whole life i have barely ever cut my hair! All thru highschool i had hair past my butt, which i cut in college, but then decided to dreadlock my hair.

ive had my locks for six years and they are down to my butt. They are heavy but i love my hair just the same. Jeremy i guess its a good thing for me that I don't have a job like yours that wont let you 'hippy' up LOL Luckily God loves our hair no matter what we do with it!

hat same thing happened to me less than a month ago..and sorry to say it, but I STILL hate it. The more it grows the poofier it looks at this awkward length..ugh anyways. It IS growing and I'm sure b4 we know we'll both be happy with our hair again. Don't feel silly for being upset about it. I cried about mine.
