OP: Thanks for posting this...
I know that 'Individual Results Vary' but if anyone is curious, this equation was within1/2 a percent of my BodPod reading! (Only 0.4 % difference).
Just an aside for those of you that mention wanting to get a BodPod anaylsis,
I splurged on a reading for my 40th birthday, but forgot that I'd have to pay yet again to find out if my body fat % improves or not! What I should do is get a home body fat scale, note how it compares to / or calibrate to the BodPod analysis number and keep track that way.0 -
Thanks for the information!!0

I was thinking that the body fat calculator probably isn't as accurate because it only takes weight and waist size into account, but now that it gave me a 21% body fat percentage, Im a believer!! LOL
None of these calculations are accurate but it's a decent estimate most of the time.

I found this equation shortly after I started here at MFP and I've used it ever since. Recently updated it and it made me smile.0

pretty sure i did it wrong... second to last number was 33.4, which sounded right to where i am now on body fat, but last number is 17.3 is that where i should be? and if so, how do i calculate what body weight that is for me? Sorry if this is redundant, just got on here for a quick second0

I hate math, but i hate body fat more, so bump bump bump!0

With the healthstatus.com calculator and rounding up on all the half inch #s -your body fat percentage is estimated to be 21.31 % using the U.S. Army body fat algorithm, or 14.18 % using the U.S. Marine body fat algorithm, or 16.56 % using the U.S. Navy body fat algorithm, or 15.84 % using the formula developed by the YMCA.
These methods are not as accurate as a water displacement test, but is usually within 1-3% for most people. If you have a very small waist, it will show a low value. On the other hand, if you carry all your extra weight around your middle, you may have an elevated percentage.
I guess I'll stick with the mirror method.0 -
I finally did the calculation and it's a lot better than my tanita scale (which I know I shouldn't count on anyway)! 27ish %.0

I'm missing something:
Factor 1 = (125*.732)+8.987 = 100.487
Factor 2 = 6/3.14 = 1.91
Factor 3 = 27*.1257 = 4.24
Factor 4 = 36*.249 = 8.96
Factor 5 = 8.25*.434 = 3.58
Factor 1 + 2 - 3 - 4 + 5 = 92.780 -

You're missing calculating your body fat weight (total body weight minus lean body mass) and then multiplying your body fat weight by 100 and dividing that by your total body weight. I come up with 26% (rounded up) for you.0 -

well than I must have done something wrong, because based on my last caliper test I had 13%, and 111 of my 127 (at that time) that was lean mass. Since then the scale hasn't moved, but I've added more lean mass.0 -
Where the heck is my waist anyway? Since I am one of those men that is pretty lean except for a belly, it's hard to tell. I wear a size 36 pants, but my belly extends a good bit past that!0
