I would give anything to learn how to not be aware, to learn how to zone out and not hear the endless chatter of someone five mahines down over my ipod.0

I dont use my phone when I am exercising but at the same time the only time it bugs me is if someone is just sitting on a machine on their phone and not using it.
I get how people dont want to hear others conversations but it seems like a thin line to me when if someone wants to chat on their phone while they exercise cuz they feel its their me time but someone else wants to not hear them cuz it their me time. I mean how do you really settle it.I dont consider it rude to me its the same thing as the people that come in with a friend and chat and laugh the whole time.(which also dosent bother me)
But I also really zone out I dont even wear headphones half the time and am pretty unaware of whats going on around me.
which makes it easy not to be bothered by it.
It does bother me to hear very personal conversations about people's sex lives and other various aspects of their lives that I really don't want to know about. So why is it up to me to ignore it?
At some point people need to be accountable for their actions and realize there is a time and place for everything. The gym is not the place for those convos. And I'd say the same thing if two people were having an equally loud and inappropiate convo in person as well.
But maybe I just don't have those 'zoning out' skills, just as they don't have the talking a little more quietly skills.0 -

The thing is its a courtesy thing and many people don't realize it. It's like when i'm in the grocery store trying to hurry and get my errands done and I run into 10 people moseying through the store, arguing wtih their spouse/child/etc...on their cell phone. My FAVORITE is when someone will be in line CHECKING OUT and will tell the Cashier to "hang on". Oh no, I will make it clear if they weren't ready to check out, they should not be holding up the line! ACK! LOL
Yes, I have major issues with people who are so hooked into their cell phone they can't leave it alone for 1 minute, much less one hour. There are times that I have been tempted to print out cell phone ettiquette rules and leave them posted at my local grocery store, in my cubicle, at home (on my front door before people enter LOL) and a whole bunch of other places.
Here's a link to a great article on Gym Ettiquette (inside the article there is a link for cell phone ettiquette). It does address cell phone usage, btw....

I seriously thought about posting it on my front door, after my stepdad literally answered a call when we were doing the whole birthday cake celebration for my daughter. My son looked at him like he was from mars. I thought it was kinda funny that my son was wondering what the heck he was doing answering his phone! LOL0 -
You can only use the cellphone in the reception area and the locker room at my gym. Everywhere else is off limits.0

Anytime you want a fairly new Android phone you can look in my car. I NEVER take my phone in the gym with me. Like you said, that is ME time and I don't want to hear from anybody for an hour. i also can't stand hearing people's conversation over my music. In my case, if I can hear you over Jay Z then you're talking too damn loud.0
