SO...anyone who talks with me on a regular basis, knows that I've been having some problems lately going to the restroom.:blushing: I took a laxative last Thursday night and Friday I finally lost 3 pounds (can you believe I was holding that much!) But I haven't been able to go again since then...that would make this Day 3 without relief! My tummy is bloated and I'm up again back to where I was last week. This is SO frustrating and I am M I S E R A B L E ! :grumble: Not quite sure what to do. I'm planning on taking another laxative tonight, but I don't want this to be a habit! What do you guys suggest? I have been eating great...around 25 grams fiber daily, LOTS of water, normal exercise. I don't know what's going on. I had actually become really regular and was SO happy for that...but now...WHAT'S GOING ON!?!?!!!!!!:explode: I seriously just want to cry!
What do you guys think?? What things can I try?? ANY advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

well I can vouch for activia, and lots of water, is it close to your time of the month?0

Rather than a drug store pill, try taking some flax oil. Take a tbsp for a couple of days in a row then take a few days off. You don't want your body to rely on it. Check your foods too. If you're consuming foods regularly that contain artificial chemicals, colours etc. you could try eliminating those for a bit to see if it helps. Not a fun problem to have hun :frown: :flowerforyou:
Oh, and take a probiotic supplement!! Udo makes a great acidophilus sup.0 -
Nope...not close to my TOM. And I do drink LOTS of water. Maybe I'll try the activia.0

Well the only reason I would know this is because my son has Crohn's disease..but instead of going to the bathroom frequently..he tends to be constipated and only go once a week. You could talk to you Dr. about Miralax.. it's a powder you can put in your orange juice to keep you regular and let me tell you I swear by it now for my son..it has really helped a lot!0

Hey there.
my body used to only "go" every 2-3 days.....but once I started eating 100% healthy lots of veggies lots of salad's it got a lil better......but one thing that helped is laxative tea.
I get mine in the health/vitamin department at Walmart......and make sure you have a larger cup because it is strong......but I promise it is not gross......unless you hate herbal tea ......Good luck and such!!0 -

Hmmm...never even heard of it. I will have to look for some. Thanks!0 -
Increase your daily intake of fiber and it will help alot. Activia is a good supplement of that and might be easiest solution.
good luck0 -
I have the same issues... I drink water like it's goin outta style and get in my 25 g of fiber. But I just can't go. So I drink dieter's tea every other day to make sure I go. It doesn't hurt. It doesn't taste bad but it cleans me out. I love it. Oh and I do wanna give a tip. The other day my ma bought a pineapple that we had to cut and I had 2 slices of it. I wasn't in need of the dieter's tea that nite. My son went too. So that might work. I had a piece of it for breakfast and yeh, I know I'ma have to go soon. Try it. FRESH pineapple that you have to cut into, not the one that is cut already!0

My niece had a similar issue, and her doctor recomended that she drink prune juice daily-it helped her. My ex had a similar issue as well, and his doctor recomended 1 Metamucil capsule daily and lots of water-it helped him.
I think everyone had some really great suggestions; however, I am a cautious person by nature...I think you should see your doctor.
Good Luck,

My son struggles with this and we tried everything.. prunes really helped him.. I recently started taking Alli and let's just say that works!!0

I know Prunes are considered by many to be an outdated food but they are actually very good. My friend introduced me to them about a year ago. Sunsweet makes a cherry essence pitted prune which is REALLY good. I make it a habit to eat a serving 1x a day and it helps alot.0

Hi, My son suffered from chronic constipation, he would only go once a week and it was a very painful event. He was prescribed Miralax, which is a powdered substance that has no flavor. We would mix it in his water/juice. It worked very well. He has outgrown the problem, but I just noticed that Miralax does not require a prescription now, it's over the counter. Also, we noticed that Fiberall helped too.
Hope you find some relief! Best wishes!0 -
These are all GREAT suggestions! Thanks so much guys. I know this is an uncomfortable topic for a lot of people and I really appreciate the feedback. Keep it coming if anyone else has more to add!!:flowerforyou:0

Just a thought!
What about foods that make you go? Like corn, peanuts, prunes ?? I think that everyone is different but there is always some type of food out there that makes you go. I'm sure if they are a little bit out of your calorie range you could probably work them off?? The last thing you need, tho, is to get dependent on laxatives!!!
Good luck to you! :flowerforyou:0 -
My daughter and I both have issues here as well. We both drink a small amount of prune juice each morning and that helps us. Especially her...otherwise she spends all nighters on the toilet trying to go.0

What about Coffee... that always seems to work for me.0

Wow i didn't know you could get miralax without prescription! This is all new to us... my son was just diagnosed with crohn's so they gave us a prescription of the miralax but it is good to know you can get it in stores too!0 -
Hi
I had the same problem...couldn't understand how this was happening since I was drinking so much water..
I am now drinking 203 cups of green tea per day and 1-2 bottles of fuze slenderize or sobe lean (I need something other than water to help me GO)
Good luck

Warm water with lemon helps alot. It is natural. You don't have to drink but maybe 8 oz a day if that. But you may have to do it for a couple of days.0
-
oh yes and coffee does the trick really well. Try flavored creamer instead of sugar.0
-
What about Coffee... that always seems to work for me.
I drink coffee every morning and it used to always get things moving almost instantly...but apparently not anymore.:grumble:0 -
Try Prune Juice. Really helpful. And drink two glasses of warm water just before going to bed. I have been though this.0

The only thing that helped my husband is eating activia every day.0

You sound like me...I even took Zelnorm (for irritable bowel syndrome) before they took it off of the market. If you find that none of the suggestions that are coming in work for you (they never did for me...including Activia and the "poo cheese" that's on the market), I have found a meal that works WONDERS for me. It is frozen dinner from Kashi....it is their Black Bean and Mango (I'm a vegetarian), very high in fiber and it just goes right through me....besides the fact that's it's pretty darn tasty! Good luck to you!0

Ok, I consider myself a bit of a fiber junkie and I'll tell you why. A few years ago I got really heavy into Laxative teas (Senna to be exact) and I didn't realize that my body grew accustomed to it. As soon as I would stop taking the tea, I would stop going. I literally went almost a full month without going to the bathroom, and believe it or now, I didn't go to the doctor. I started to research and read many bulletins like these to get some ideas. The one thing I read was that laxatives were NOT the way to go. Du! I kind of knew that already... so the next best over the counter thing I read about was Metamucil (the powder). I started taking it with water and it helped. I went. But I still felt I would get clogged up. So I changed my diet COMPLETELY. I eat lots of fiber now and I am completely regular, and it's the best feeling (to not be bloated)... unless on the days I overdo it which can make me feel a little uncomfortable. My best advice to you and anyone else who has issues like this is to do it with food. If you get your body to work on it's own, it's the very best thing you can do to yourself. I do this by always eating my fiber at breakfast. Do this with oatmeal and raisins or find the cereal with the highest fiber lowest sugar content you can find (that you can stomach). I eat either: ALL BRAN Extra Fiber, ALL BRAN Bran Buds, ALL BRAN Regular, KASHI Go Lean, or FIBER ONE. These cereals all have a bland taste, so I pair the serving up with fresh berries and vanilla soy milk (My favorite is 8th Continent Light Vanilla - which is low in sugar and high in protein and tastes GREAT!). Try this and you'll never eat Lucky Charms again.
Good Luck!0 -
Thanks! I know laxatives are a bad idea...it's more so I don't get more clogged right now. I already eat TONS of fiber...at least 25 g. daily. I drink LOTS of water. I exercise on a regular basis. I keep looking up articles and these are all things that help prevent this problem....but I already do them! SO...not quite sure what my issue is then. I don't know if maybe my body is just adjusting to this new lifestyle or what...I don't eat greasy food anymore. I eat LOTS of fruit and veggies. I eat yogurt everyday. I have wholesome grains and some almonds. I eat minimal fat and sugar. So...what's the deal. I'm pretty much living really healthy and nutritious these days, and NOW I'm irregular...bloated...MISERABLE! Seriously doesn't make sense to me! So...I guess I just don't know what to do now. I will continue trying new things. I can't go to a doctor right now...no insurance. So...thanks for the suggestions and keep em coming if there's more!0

Ok a few things I might be able to add to the mix. Yes yogurt would be great. But in addition most pharmacies sell a probiotic for you stomach over the counter that you do not need a perscription for but you do have to ask for it. It add the good bacterias you need in your intestines. If you had been on antibiotics or some other types of medications they can deplete those important bacterias.
Second thing is definately consider mollasses, or prunes that may help elliviate some of the discomfort in the meantime. Stay away from bananas and apples for a little bit. They are great for stopping you up a bit.
Third if you haven't been to the doctor in awhile you may want to check things out. I know thyroid issues as odd as that sounds can cause constipation.
Hang in there.0 -

Hmmm...I eat a banana AND an apple daily. I should stop this for a while??
I was thinking about buying some pineapple as someone suggested and I eat berries a lot. I haven't been on any antibiotics in a LONG time so I don't think that is the problem. But I think I'll buy some prune juice. Thanks Eve!!0 -
i am glad you posted this! i am dealing with the same thing right now. have been since last monday. just like you i drink tons of water and eat tons of fiber and healthy foods. it is so frustrating :explode:0
