5 Guys Burgers

You know what you're getting into when you go to a place like 5 Guys. A delicious meal that will cost you some calories. You know what's going to add the most calories, i.e., bacon, cheese, fried/sauteed stuff as opposed to lettuce, tomato, onion. If you don't go there a lot, then get whatever the hell you want...burger wise. Don't eat the fries. They'll crush your diet and you'll end up eating more than you want because of how much they give you/how they serve them.
Eat a salad or something before you go if you're worried that one burger won't fill you up. And load up on some of the toppings as previous people said. Enjoy it. I'm not saying you specifically, but in general, I don't understand why people want to go to Chipotle or something and get the "healthiest" thing possible that they won't enjoy nearly as much. Exercise a little extra, eat less of what you really want, etc. if you're gonna go to a fast food place. Cheating is necessary for the average person. I'd go insane if I didn't eat sh*tty once in a while. That much self discipline/torture is too intense.
I agree with this totally. If you're going to go to a place like this then enjoy yourself and accept that you are not going to eat healthy at that time. All of the gyrations of trying to turn a sow's ear into a silk purse will only cause your dining experience to suffer.
The other alternative is to simply not to go to places like this if eating in these establishments is really that much of a concern.0 -
I think you should endulge but I always make sure I can alot for the calories or I have a hard workout before I do it. I mean come on 5 guys and fries? I personally love my heart rate monitor for these purposes. I actually ate their yesterday and I made sure I paid the band before I danced
So what I would do too!! 5 guys is very yummy! VERY happy we don't have one close by...lol. But when I have to go to Huntsville for a class for work, we go there. Their fries are just awesome.
Heh. Have you been dragged to Shaggy's in Huntsville yet (just up the road from the Hwy 72 Five Guys?). Oh. My. Word. Save a cheat day!
I have not...I am coming there again in May, I will have to look into this. My favorite place in Huntsville is Jason's Deli...love that place!!0 -

love it! I could not go to 5 guys and not eat fries, as I love fries(well, good ones and they make good ones!!) This would definitely be a cheat for me, but considering I get full a lot quicker, I would not indulge into the whole cup/bucket of fries.lol0 -
When I'm forced to go eat at unhealthy places with my friends, which is occasional, I just eat what they eat. For a burger, I would take off the buns and just have the meat, no fries, limit the sauce. But I usually just eat the whole thing, then I would fast the rest of the day to stay under my calorie ceiling or workout hard before or after. Have fun man!0

I love 5 Guys. If I'm going out to a restaurant (really any of them) I try to go on to their website and see what my choices are before I go. If you know you're going there, look it up so you know what you want on your burger and what the calories are before you go. You can get the little burger and it's really quite enough. They have great fries so just plan to indulge a little bit.
The key to success is "everything in moderation". And remember....success is a journey, not a destination.0 -

Mmmmmmmmmm Jason's Deli...
Shaggy's is odd, but yummy. It's like a fast food burger joint and a fast food taco joint that also serves alcohol. I like their tacos so well I've not had their burgers. But with their burgers they serve a mix of regular and sweet potato fries that is to die for.
Shaggy's is sooooooooooooooo bad for me...0 -
In my opinion, when someone says "don't go there" what they are really saying is "I can't figure out how to go there and keep in line with my goals". Everyone makes different choices. I've been on a long haul of weight loss, avoiding such places completely for the long term is not an option. I've had to figure out how to work it in to an otherwise fairly healthy way of eating. On the other hand, I have not had trouble working in such things as ice cream, pizza and burgers when I want to. Exercise is a big key for me, moderation is the other. I no longer even WANT to eat that way every day. Doesn't sound like the original poster does, either.
Nice work, Mark.0 -
I used to eat at 5 guys every once in awhile before I started trying to lose weight and haven't really been back since.
The best advice I can give you is get a little burger and either skip the fries or split them with someone else.0
