Finally getting around to it

I have been threatening to earn my certificate in Personal training for a very long time. I am finally getting around too it. It's funny, I have the ACE Personal trainer manual and I'm reading through it, and besides all the bone and joint names, I am surprised at how much I already know. I'm very proud of myself. LOL!
So I'll let you guys know (for anyone who really cares) in a couple of months how it turns out. It's a very big manual so it may take me a while (between work, runs, and baseball) to get through it and do the intern time with the trainer. At least that part will be ok, My wife is best friends with the owner of a gym so I can go train with a trainer any time I want.

    Thanks guys.

Jackeh, I'll NEVER charge for stuff on here, mark my words. I'm doing it more for me then anything. I have a very good job, and not trying to change professions, I just want to be able to say "I did it!" for me.

alf, yeah, I checked around before going ACE, it's the most widely recognized set of certs and it's what the gym owner said I absolutely had to have if I was going to do it right. And as to training my wife, oh God no. That would be a disaster, we are both strong willed and stubborn, in fact I asked her permission to take the test because she originally wanted to do it, before her back issue, and I didn't want to usurp her "thing". And anyway, her friend (the owner) is VERY good, and I doubt I would be able to tell her anything that Lori couldn't.

FYI, I REALLY want to get the ACE nutrition cert, but you need a trainer cert first, so that is what I'm doing. It'll be expensive, but money we have, time on the other hand...

hey banks! congrats on going for the cert thats awesome!!! i know that you said that you weren't looking to change professions..but just as a heads up, even though ACE is the most widely known certification, a lot of reputible places won't hire you as a trainer unless you have a NASM or an ACSM cert. Or a bachelors degree in a health related field. I guess that can be a heads up for anyone who's thinking about being a trainer. (also for anyone thinking about doing it, i would also suggest business classes, because if you're a trainer, you're marketing and selling yourself as a service, and that can be the toughest thing for YOU to sell!!)

good luck with your test, its tough but i'm sure you'll be fine!!

Good to know. I'm not really concerned about being hired, but I suppose if I ever do want to I'll keep that in mind. Thanks.

banks; awesome bro! I know that you can do it, and it is always great to have these kinds of goals. I totally  when someone decides to make a career of service to other people, as opposed to a job just to grab $$!

p90x_Dude; "...of course if the Lord tarries." We have saying... If you want to make God laugh, tell him you have plans! But great for you too bro!

Wow, our MFP family is certainly motivating peopel to reach beyond themselves and into new areas of helping out our fellow humans, that's awesome!

becoming a certifided Personal training has changed my life and I only use it for a part time job, but it's really all about the free gym membership plus helping others, I have 3 women that just went under 200 lbs and to think I had something to do with make me feel great. You can do it, it will change your out look on fitness.
