I hear that. Phelps is a machine!0
-
He's amazing... it's almost (but not really) kinda sad for the other swimmers...
They should just give him the medals now... save everyone the effort...0 -
I can't wait for the track & field!!!!! But yeah, Phelps is amazing!! :drinker:0
-
So totally true!!
I'm watching gymnastics at the moment!0 -
Ya...DH and I were laughing our butts off eating our smores...I looked at him and said that I was too tired to go running last night. He looked at the TV and then me and said, "Have another!"
I was so loopy, tired, and done. LOL0 -
So totally true!!
I'm watching gymnastics at the moment!

haha it is very nerve wracking!!!! The Chinese are on the bars now!....er....
I like the chart as well! The tiny girl looks like she is 8, but she is really good on the bars.0 -
whoa!! phelps and crew just kicked major butt!!:noway: those other teams didn't stand a chance!0
-
oooohhhh... looks like they've moved to the beam and China is making mistakes!!
hopefully the US girls will have a rock star performance on beam like they did in the prelims...
GO USA!!
and how about that relay by the guys.... WHOOOOOO!! Phelps is incredible...0 -
Go to the same site as the female gymnasts and look for the part about Phelps.....amazing!!!:noway:
Wouldn't want to try to buy him a shirt for Christmas....but watching him IS AMAZING!!!!!
GO USA:drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker:
EZ0 -
Yep, I'm there with y'all! But the men's relay team was awesome - they just left everyone in the proverbial dust.
It definitely is "interesting" to look at the Chinese gymnasts compared to the Americans. The Americans have all clearly hit puberty (except maybe Shawn Johnson - she's tiny), and at least half the Chinese team are just NOT there yet.
Oh no, Alicia Sacramore just fell off the beam! But the rest of her routine was solid. Poor girl.0 -
beam is not doing so well:frown:0
-
ugh... I'm sick at my stomach....
feel so bad for Alicia.... but the other two did really well....
they're behind by one point....0 -
Oh, the poor thing fell again on floor. She looks absolutely crushed. :brokenheart:0
-
not a good night for alicia:frown:0
-
oh well... I guess Silver isn't anything to sneeze at!
That poor girl is going to beat herself up for ever... I don't know how she kept her composure and didn't cry... those darn cameras... they should leave her alone...0 -
I'm glad they only happen every four years. I LVE the olympics.
gymnastics
beach volleyball
diving
swimming
It's amazing I can get any work done
It also really revs me up to go workout.0 -
I am sooooo addicted and it is really making me sleep deprived. DH set up the TV so that I could watch while I walk on the treadmill. So I tape each night and then demand that no one tell me the results -- LOL! But the kids have been cheering on the swimmers (man! Phelps is AMAZING!!!) so loudly that I can't resist and I have to watch to see what the ruckus is about -- LOL! Anyway, I am walking 8-10 miles a day, thanks to the Olympics. I am going to be devastated when they are over . . . I feel justified making the time to watch and walk now but I won't really be able to justify 2-3 hours in front of the tube (even if I am on the treadmill) . . .
Better get to bed. Work still goes on, Olympics or not . . .
Just glad to know that other MFPs are watching our incredible athletes and being inspired by the stories . . .0 -
Phelps is AWESOME!
How cute is Shawn Johnson???? She is for sure America's next gymnastics sweetheart. I can totally see her on a box of Wheaties!!0 -
Wow, I just looked at this.
I'm 4'11". I have a very muscular compact frame.
I am a 37 year old adult, I have had two children (gained 60+ lbs while on bedrest and lost it over two years.) My goal weight, which I maintained easily a number of years AFTER having children is one pound more than Bridget Sloan's competition weight. I think I would die if I were 77 lbs!!!
Bridget Sloan (and the USA team overall,) seems at a reasonable, healthy weight for her size. The Chinese gymnasts looked emaciated and super young to me.
Béla Károlyi summed it up well when he said they were underage but that was another issue because the Chinese government passports say they are old enough.0 -
Even Baroli was saying last night that the Chinese girls Gymmnastic team was underage, but there is nothing we can do about it. And, honestly, they had a better team than we did. But we still have some individual competitions to go for in girls gymnastics.0
-
even if these girls are underage... they are little machines!!!! but in China these athletes are BRED to do they do!!! .... for eg YAU MING(sp) the basket ball player BOTH of his parents where in the olympics for basket ball!!! he is something like 7 foot 5!!! and they will continue to force him to play even if he is injured..

I feel so bad for them, or rather, I don't understand the mentality that excelling at sports is worth taking children from their family at 3 years old. They have great gymnasts, but is it the gymnasts free will to live their life in this way?0 -
I record it, then watch it without the commercials so I'm a little behind. Just watched the Chinese men last night. I want to do a wide angle handstand! That looked awesome. There's no way though. Just thinking about a shoulder press verses holding weights at a wide angle. Wow.0

More fun news about how CHN is manipulating it's environment, albeit rather not too successfully, for the Olympics.

They said that the China gymnastics team leader asked her parents if she could come home a few years ago and they told her NO. I have issues with that. I realize China is a much different country than the USA but how do you give up your child at three for a sport???? Sure, I would be totally proud of my kids if they ended up being Olympians, but it would be their choice to take that path not mine and I would lay out all the pros and cons and help them make an educated choice. I do realize that some kids show signs of greatness before they are old enough to make their own decisions but at the age of three they are still just BABIES! I hope they are happy with their gold medals b/c someone else made the choice for this to be their lifelong dream. Quite sad if you ask me.0 -
I saw that too, and really shuddered! Not a society like ours for sure. I just hope that maybe CHN can learn some *good* things from us, as we can from them.0
