I am sooooo addicted and it is really making me sleep deprived. DH set up the TV so that I could watch while I walk on the treadmill. So I tape each night and then demand that no one tell me the results -- LOL! But the kids have been cheering on the swimmers (man! Phelps is AMAZING!!!) so loudly that I can't resist and I have to watch to see what the ruckus is about -- LOL! Anyway, I am walking 8-10 miles a day, thanks to the Olympics. I am going to be devastated when they are over . . . I feel justified making the time to watch and walk now but I won't really be able to justify 2-3 hours in front of the tube (even if I am on the treadmill) . . .

Better get to bed. Work still goes on, Olympics or not . . .

Just glad to know that other MFPs are watching our incredible athletes and being inspired by the stories . . .

    Phelps is AWESOME!

How cute is Shawn Johnson???? She is for sure America's next gymnastics sweetheart. I can totally see her on a box of Wheaties!!

Wow, I just looked at this.

    I'm 4'11". I have a very muscular compact frame.

I am a 37 year old adult, I have had two children (gained 60+ lbs while on bedrest and lost it over two years.) My goal weight, which I maintained easily a number of years AFTER having children is one pound more than Bridget Sloan's competition weight. I think I would die if I were 77 lbs!!!

Bridget Sloan (and the USA team overall,) seems at a reasonable, healthy weight for her size. The Chinese gymnasts looked emaciated and super young to me.

Béla Károlyi summed it up well when he said they were underage but that was another issue because the Chinese government passports say they are old enough.

Even Baroli was saying last night that the Chinese girls Gymmnastic team was underage, but there is nothing we can do about it. And, honestly, they had a better team than we did. But we still have some individual competitions to go for in girls gymnastics.

I feel so bad for them, or rather, I don't understand the mentality that excelling at sports is worth taking children from their family at 3 years old. They have great gymnasts, but is it the gymnasts free will to live their life in this way?

I record it, then watch it without the commercials so I'm a little behind. Just watched the Chinese men last night. I want to do a wide angle handstand! That looked awesome. There's no way though. Just thinking about a shoulder press verses holding weights at a wide angle. Wow.

More fun news about how CHN is manipulating it's environment, albeit rather not too successfully, for the Olympics.

They said that the China gymnastics team leader asked her parents if she could come home a few years ago and they told her NO. I have issues with that. I realize China is a much different country than the USA but how do you give up your child at three for a sport???? Sure, I would be totally proud of my kids if they ended up being Olympians, but it would be their choice to take that path not mine and I would lay out all the pros and cons and help them make an educated choice. I do realize that some kids show signs of greatness before they are old enough to make their own decisions but at the age of three they are still just BABIES! I hope they are happy with their gold medals b/c someone else made the choice for this to be their lifelong dream. Quite sad if you ask me.

I saw that too, and really shuddered! Not a society like ours for sure. I just hope that maybe CHN can learn some *good* things from us, as we can from them.

I agree - NPR did a series on athletes on China in the weeks leading up to the games that was really interesting and rather depressing. While they are still performing well, they have all their needs taken care of, but once they destroy their bodies so much that they can no longer play (or even work, in many cases), they are on their own.

    On a happier note....

Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh just won another match - undefeated for almost a year! And can I just say how much I would LOOOOOVE to look like Misty May?

OMG did anyone watch the swimming again tonight?

They referred to Phelps as the "Best BreastStroker Ever." That guy is going to have women beating down his door even more now. :noway:

Does he now walk into a bar with his *business* card which says that? Now THAT is some pickup line!

He probably doesn't want to get the 'Fastest Man Alive' connotation associated with himself tho.....

    Think about it...

Sorry to go to the gutter, just couldn't help myself...

Hmmmm.... and just why Ezzie point out that same comment to me? But then she laughed and told me it *obviously* wasn't true!

I did hear that comment  - but I don't think it was about Phelps. It was about the Japanese guy who won one of the breaststroke races - Phelps didn't compete in that one.
