I know that you should drink at least 8 cups or 64 ounces of water a day; but can't. I have tried and tried, but no matter the water...bottled or tap; I just can't drink the full 8 cups. I can barely get the first 8 ounces down and that takes me all day!!! Can anyone offer some suggestions or tricks they use??? Thank you so much!!!

Maybe a squeeze of lemon or lime in the water? I love it that way. Also, this may sound strange but I have to drink out of a straw. I drink a ton.0

Fresh lemon or lime added might work; or those crystal lite packets?0

^^ good tips.
just add a little water every day. 64 ounces really shouldn't be much of a problem. I drink about 32 while in the gym for 90 minutes.0 -
maybe if you put water in a bottle and carry it with you and sip regually so your only have a mouthfull but if your doing it all day long that got to add up!! or in the evening if you sit a watch tv have it beside you and have a mnouthfull at every ad break... failing that put it with some no sugar squash at least it will be better than nothing!!0

I LOVE water, BUT I know that it can be difficult to drink for some people, at one stage I wasn't liking it either and felt like drinking something else but I didn't want any sugar or calories to add to my weight so I started with a diet cordial (mix drinks). As the days went by I made it weaker and weaker until I started liking water again. Good luck0

I keep a water bottle with me at all times, I usually like something that has some type of measurement on it. That way I can see all day where I'm at. I have a friend who barely drinks any water and it really helps her to get the crystal light packs with some flavor. She has a tendency to drink more when she's drinking those. Also, if you have a glass of water with meals, try and drink about half of it before you start eating, that helps to fill you up. Or before you snack drink water instead and if you're still hungry then eat. That also really help with snacking.0

I use the 4C brand water flavor. The fruit punch flavor tastes just like Kool-Aid! And it's made with Splenda, so no calories! (I'm not a fan of the Aspartame they use in Crystal LIght and many other flavored water drinks). Much easier to drink than water alone.0

MIO liquid drink enhancer0

Try flavoring the water with crystal light or something for a few weeks and get your 8 glasses that way.. then taper off the crystal light. At that point your bosy will be so used to getting the 8 glasses you will be thirsty enough to drink plain water.0

On the days I have trouble drinking water, I fill a glass and just guzzle it down..every hour on the hour. I might miss an hour or two during the day when I am busy, but it does help me meet my quota.0

that seems to work for me too!!! I bought a cup at walmart that has a straw... plastic cup with cover and a straw... I love it... find myself drinking more then I have too!!!0 -
I dont like water either, but I drink out of straw it goes faster and I use low calorie Crystal light , I only use a half a packet to give water some taste. I dont get in 64 oz everyday , but close to it.0

I love Mio.. water enhancer. It makes drinking water a breeze!0

I have a hard time with it also. I jsut started using the MIO water enhancers also and love them. No calories or anything in it, but it does have Sucralose in it. I also have to use a straw or in a cup. Its harder for me to drink out of a bottle.0

Buy a cup or a bottle that you can measure exactly how much is in it. I have a cup that I use every day at work, and another at home. They hold 3 cups of water each. I drink it cold, and with a straw. I also set "goals" for myself throughout the day. i.e. when I work out, I drink a full glass (3 cups) of water during the workout. I don't get to shower until I finish it. At work, I fill up my glass again. I don't get to have lunch until I finish that glass. Same for my afternoon snack, and then again before I go home. By the time I leave work, I am usually at 12 cups of water finished for the day. Then I take it easy at home, but I usually end up drinking more because you really do start to crave it. Some days it's hard to get it all in, but I definitely try to drink at least 10 glasses per day.0

Me and my MIO! I love that stuff. A little squirt or more, mostly just a little will do me just fine. I am also addicted to the sparkling waters. I am always carrying one around to get the most water intake I can. I have eliminate the need to any other beverage in the house, much to the whines and groans of the rest of the household. We now have nothing else but water in the house except for a small 1/2 gallon of 2% milk. To me, if it isn't there, I can't drink it, therefore I have to drink the water. But now, I don't want to drink anything else.0

I do a variation on this - chug a pint of water each time before I eat. I've been known to chug a beer or two before, I should be able to do water this way, right? lol0 -
ICE cold...thats the only way I drink it that and I drink my coffee, then my start on water and nothing else until it's done I use a 32 oz cup and chug!!! Sometimes I use lemon, lime or orange. Try the flavored water at Walmart it's pretty good as well0

Wow, Thanks everyone!!!
I like the straw idea and the bottle measuring idea--guess I will try those. Another question though... Doesn't adding flavors take away from the whole point of drinking the water??? I am not sure, I just always thought that it had to be plain-natural water. Maybe, I am wrong????0 -
never seen the brand before. Where do you buy Mio?0

I admit that I didn't read all the replies, so forgive me if someone's already said this- I find that if I'm having trouble getting water in, it's usually because I'm drinking too much of something else. Do you drink a lot of soda/tea/coffee/milk etc? If so, cutting back on those might help you get in the water.0

I'm terrible at drinking water as well! I've found that since I've started getting serious about working out, I am drinking a lot more, but still I don't get the full 8 cups a day in...except yesterday, I was sooo thirsty I think I drank over 80oz!
You got a lot of good advice, adding lemon juice, using a straw, keeping a bottle with you at all times, etc.
Basically, I've gotten to the point where I drink a glass first thing when I get up in the morning, before anything else, then I get my coffee (a must have). I drink about 3-4 glasses during my workouts. that's the easy part. Getting the rest in is where I have issues! I keep a water bottle handy and try and drink out of that throughout the day. I make myself drink at least 1 glass at dinner, I try for 2. And if I am not drinking enough water, I won't let myself have any other kind of drink unless I first get a full glass of water!
Before I started working out, it was not uncommon for me to not have water for days! I drank coffee pretty much exclusively. Not good! The first few times I started working out, drinking water during the workout actually made me feel sick to my stomach, but I kept at it, and that went away, thank goodness, because I sweat A LOT, and need that water!0 -
I try to drink a full glass of water right before each meal, and another immediately after working out. That gets 4 out of the way without even thinking about it. I also keep a bottle of water at my desk at work and make myself sip all day (2 glasses), and then another bottle (2 glasses) gets drunk in the car on my way home from work.0

I think water alone is 'best', but adding a flavor, if it helps you get the water in, certainly won't hurt! It really depends on the 'flavor'. Buying 'flavored water' at the store is defeating the purpose, in my opinion, but adding lemon juice only, or something like that doesn't hurt at all.
if you push through, and really try hard, eventually your body will come to LOVE the plain-natural water. We've conditioned our bodies to do without it, so it's not easy to re-condition it to have it! I know that I was soooo sick of peeing all the stinking time when I first started drinking a lot more water...but that does eventually get better!0 -
I absolutely LOVE Crystal light that you ad to water....AMAZING....I would definitely try it,there are a ton of flavors too!!0
