ChshireKat, I have some movement issues, too. I just make sure I start slow. As a matter of fact, I accidently did two new things a couple of weeks ago and then had to sit out for a full week
I have taken up more and more social exercise - I am having so much fun I couldn't possibly consider it an obligation!
-social dance (swing and blues are my mainstays, but every once in awhile I try on something new, like two step)
-hula hooping
-anything in a pool (I log horseplay as water aerobics, but you have to really be goofing off!)
-walking with my partner
The key is really to start slow. If you haven't been walking for awhile, start with 10 minute walks. If you have never danced before, a beginner class will be more watching and listening than dancing, anyway!
As for cooking, I have a lot of success cooking up full recipes and then using the leftovers the rest of the week. Unless my partner gobbles them up when I have my back turned.0 -
Hey everyone.
Chsire have you tried just dancing? I have anxiety that keeps me in the house (although I'm very determined to walk outside today) and so I usually put together 5-6 songs and just keep moving until the playlist ends. This way you can just choose the movements that don't hurt you. Even just moving your arms enough will get your heart pumping.0 -
Daybyday- First, good luck with the graduation on Sunday. I hope you have a nice day. Secondly, no, I have not heard of the “Flat Belly Diet”. Let us know about it after you read up on it. I know I am interested in hearing about it.
Phenomeva – Welcome. Looking forward to getting to know you too. We are a small group (pardon the pun), but determined to stick together and get this done.
Tatiana- Where is your profile picture from? It looks interesting. I know how you feel. I’ve gone the wrong way lately myself. Glad to have you back.
ChshireKat- Look for TastyBites in stores. They are two serving vegetarian meals. Some of them are so low calorie you can eat both servings without going over 300 calories. In your case, you could use them as a side dish and then just broil up a piece of meat, chicken or pork to go with it. I will try to think of other things that fit your situation.
MelsDiet – Welcome! Planet Fitness appears to be cheap to join and my co-workers that go there love it. Maybe one is in your area.
Concordancia- Welcome and that is really good advice for newbies just starting out.
I am having a stressful week. I had to ask my husband to leave, but he called and apologized instead. He went into a rant and stormed out of the house last night. I told him this morning that he can't act like that any more. He scared the kids and I. We had no idea where he went or if he was coming back. Basically, if he really believed the things he said to us, he needs to leave. While I do love him, he needs to desperately grow up and my son who had a nervous breakdown in January can't deal with any more stress. My daughter was so freaked at school one of her friend's mothers called me to tell me that if he leaves, she will bring her home from school next week so she can finish the year.
With all that said, this is going to be a hard weekend
Have a great evening all,
Jeannie0 -
@Jam. Thanks for the welcome back, Jam. My profile pick is from a rocky beach in San Diego...La Jolla. I don't remember which one. It wasn't a special beach. But that's San Diego...just any random piece of property is beautiful.
And I hope things get better I home. At that you are able to breathe...breathe and take care of yourself while you're taking care of everyone else.
@MeIsdiet...welcome!
@ChshireKat...I hope your doctor can refer you to a physical therapist for advice about exercise. If he or she doesn't suggest it...ask for it. As for food, we all get into food ruts. I remember I survived one winter on eggs, kefir, spanikopita, and gummi bears. All the calories lined up, mind you, but it was kind of bad...in more ways then one. I would just encourage you to explore and try new things. Get out of your comfort zone a little. Try some recipes from some food blogs. Maybe try just one new thing a week. Eating nutritious food shouldnt feel like drudgery...annoying about some of the things you have to say no to, yes...but not a drudgery when you are eating the food you have.0 -
     Jeannie, I am so sorry to hear about the troubles at your house. Stay in the moment. And don't feed your emotions. We are here as a loving sounding board for you.
:flowerforyou: I am reading a great book called "The Thin Commandments Diet"......I'm not interested in the diet, just in the great ideas to improve my thinking and my actions about food. The first commandment is "Strategy is stronger than willpower". On this thread we share strategies for eating and exercising so we don't have to be victims of circumstance and environment.
:flowerforyou: with good weather for taking walks and line dance classes, the last three days have been a bonanza of exercise. :bigsmile:today there was a line dance party (potluck and a lot of dancing) after the regular dance class. I ate an Isagenix meal replacement bar on the way over and two bananas (that's what I brought for the potluck) and a very small serving of nuts and dried cranberries and stayed away from the salads with creamy dressings, the casseroles with many unknown ingredients, and the gooey desserts. The sushi looked great but it all had avocado and avocado gives me horrible cramps. I danced almost all the dances :bigsmile:0 -

Thanks for the info on Planet Fitness, Im afraid Im in the UK though and Planet Fitness only seems to be in the USA. :-) Thanks Anyway, There's a gym up the road from me 'Everyone Active' which is about £25-£32 a month so not too bad x0 -
:drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: :drinker:
this is my Isagenix cleanse day so I limit my exercise to necessary dog walking which actually looks like a lot    :laugh:0 -
@Jam, ty for the welcome and I hope things get better for you. I'm sure all that stress isn't healthy Try to stay positive
@Barbie, I used to love line dancing. I bet it would be a great exercise if I still remembered any moves
I'm going to California for the next week, it's a mini vacation. Wish me luck. I'm not sure how I'll be able to plan my meals if we'll be eating out every day. At least I have the MFP app on my phone to help me, but I won't get to check the forums. I plan on going to the zoo and aquarium so I'll get my walk on!
Good luck to everyone with your exercise and whatnot.0 -
I think my scale to taunting me again, it says I have lost 3 lbs, but then the number changes after I reset it again. I should have kept the box so I could find out how to wipe the memory and start over.0

Thank you all for the warm support. Yes, Barbie, I am trying to stay focused in the moment. Thanks for the reminder.
MelsDiet – I hope the gym works out for you.
Phenomeva – I hope you have a wonderful time in California. I am sure you will get a lot of walking in. I bet the food will be healthy or at least you will have healthy options.
ChshireKat – I do think the scales have gremlins that play with our minds.
This week has been busy but calm. My son was in military camp. My daughter got her license on my birthday. She says my freedom is her present to me. Lol I told her with my freedom comes a new set of worries and more gray hair!
Calorie wise I am hanging in there and just over the 1200 limit every day. If I could get some exercise in, I’d be under. I am going to put the exercise bike up for sale and go back to the Wii and walking the dogs. I love the bike, but we the room in the living room and the money can go to my credit card. We had bought the bike for my daughter after her hip surgery and she doesn’t need it any more.
For us in the USA this is the beginning of a 3 day weekend and the official beginning of summer making it a good time to restart exercising outdoors again!

I have not lost anything since mid-November. I don't have my diary open because sometimes I am embarrassed to show it. I know what to eat, I just don't always do it. Wednesday June 1, I am having foot surgery. I'm getting a little nervous. I am so worried about gaining weight back (a few pounds won't be so bad). I am looking for exercise ideas to do while nonweight bearing. I have to be on crutches for 6 weeks!!
Like Jam said it's Memorial Day weekend for us here in the USA and that means a barbecue for me!! I hope everyone has a great weekend.0 -
Hello everyone,
I hope the weekend is starting out well for you. In getting back to basics like I did in the beginning, I did my exercise BEFORE I started to clean the house. 30 minutes of Wii aerobics = 126. Not a high burn, but like Barbie says any exercise you will do is good exercise for you. (or something like that)
A school mate of Jimmy's (my son) lost their home. They are staying with friends for a few weeks and the lady they are staying with had an allergic reaction to their dog. It was very serious and she ended up in the emergency room. So any one want to guess what I have for the next few weeks?
Chat at you later,
Jeannie0 -
:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: Jeannie, you amaze me at how you have been such a steady rock for your children and still stayed focused on healthy eating and exercising….and now you have the extra stress of a child with a drivers’ license. I am learning to live without my exercise bike. Hubby tried to fix it and declared it unfixable. So I am walking more and developing a greater tolerance for walking in nasty weather. The dogs are very happy that I’m walking more because I usually take them with me.
:flowerforyou: Melsdiet, good luck on finding a gym that works for you
:flowerforyou: Phenomeva, I hope your trip to California is great. Eating well while traveling is a huge challenge. Even when you find healthy things, the sodium is usually high. On my last trip I put in a lot of effort to walk a lot so at least I was burning some calories…….I line dance at three line dance classes where the teacher reviews the steps for each dance before she puts on the music.
:flowerforyou: Annita, there are a lot of ways to see that you’re losing weight. My first indication was that my underwear fit better. Often the scale shows no changes even when your body is changing. Do not be discouraged.
:flowerforyou: Daybyday, good luck on your surgery. A friend of mine stayed in shape and burned calories while recovering from a series of surgeries but doing upper body exercises with videos, light dumbbells, and stretch resistance bands.
:flowerforyou: Jeannie, your generosity in taking care of that dog is awesome. I admire you so much
:flowerforyou: Someone came to look at our house today (we’re trying to sell it and move to something less expensive with less yard to care for) so I took the dogs to the dog park and hubby did all the shopping errands. With our house on the market, it has never been so clean.0 -
Daybyday - ask your doctor when you can get in a pool after your surgery. There are many water aerobics you can do and since you are in the water, there is no weight bearing on your foot. When my daughter had extensive surgery on her hip a while back, the ortho had her in the pool 3 days after surgery walking with a life jacket on in in water deep enough to make her almost floating.
Even if your insurance won't cover water therapy, you can still do it yourself as long as you have the instructions. That is what we did with her and it really helped. The lifeguards were really great too about helping her get into the pool then putting the crutches aside if they thought she was alone. Good luck.
Barbie - My dogs would love it if I walked them in bad weather. The new guy is a really good dog and fits right in with us and all the other critters. I just hope we don't get stuck with him as I have vowed to our old dog not to get any more while she is still with us. I don't want anything to distract us from caring for her.
We are having a small cookout tomorrow. It is payback for all the help we have gotten this year with Anna and Jimmy. There are a couple of families that have just really pitched in when needed without being asked to. The fun part is they are about as opposite as you can get. We asked another friend who can play the guitar and sing to come too just in case we need some entertainment. Luckily, John will play for food!
Happy Sunday all,
Jeannie0 -
Barbie - I've never looked at anyone's diary before, but I did look at yours. It made me realize how much I need to re-commit to exercising daily again. Thanks for making it public. Jeannie0

Is there going to be a june forum?0
-
Hey all! Long time no talk! I'd like to know if there is going to be a June thread too. I'll be checking in to see if you guys move.
It's a little late and I just want to give an update on my status. I've hit my goal range and have been maintaining for the past several weeks. It's definitely been a balance act and I haven't been sticking to as clean as of a diet as I have before.
Overall though I feel great. I'm still working out and still lifting so that I stay nice and firm. My June goals are to stay within my maintenance range, eat cleaner and get outside more. Maintaining is something that is new to me and I'm still trying to figure the ins and outs of it. Weather has been amazing and I want to take advantage of it!
I've also started a blog on Wordpress just for fun. I use to blog when I was in high school and even though I only had a few visitors (mainly friends), it was just a nice hobby to have on the side.
I hope you all are staying healthy and fit and are getting closer to your goals! I'll check in another time!0 -
Hey everyone! Today marks one week since my foot surgery. Pain has been a little more yesterday & today but nothing unbearable. I see the doctor tomorrow. I've been having to keep it elevated, icing, etc. There is NOTHING on TV during the day. Only so many cooking and talk shows I can watch. My 2 most favorite soap operas were taken off the air.
On to the health stuff - today I did some chair aerobics. I have been quite the B***h since last week (because and I have to rely on everyone else wah wah) and really believe it's because I hadn't been exercising. I am hoping it will make a difference. I am also really surprise at how much of a workout just walking around the house on crutches is.
I hope everyone is having a healthy week!! *hugs*

Hello everyone,
I will start a new thread today. I haven’t felt like talking (posting)
Daily Orange – That is so fantastic that you reached your goal. You must be so proud of yourself. Did you do anything special to celebrate?
Kim-Try to just stay focused on upper body stuff for a while. It is needed as much as lower body and aerobics. I hope the pain subsides soon. It must be so hard to be so dependent on everyone.
Have a great day everyone and here is the new link:
