I'm 5'9 and currently 190lbs with my goal being 160ish. In my opinion 120lbs is unrealistic for your height. Take a look at this thread and read through some of the posts. I think you'll be surprised to see so many stories like yours from ladies who have and haven't met their goal yet.

This thread alone has really opened my eyes. I always thought I needed to weigh around 125lbs too and that may very well have been my problem all along. I was doing extreme things to my body to reach an extreme goal. Now that all of this isn't so overwhelming (thanks to MFP and lots of tall chicks on here!) this process isn't nearly as nerve wracking.

Enjoy and feel free to friend me if you wish--

I was 265 and I am now at 158, three pounds from my goal. I am 5'8". I will probably lose a few more pounds for some wiggle room and I will continue to strength train and do cardio to change my body shape more. You can look in my profile to see before pictures. I need to put some full body afters in soon, but my face is there and it is QUITE different!

I was 262 and weighed in this morning at 216. I've been going since January of this year. My goal is 160 and I am 5'10. I would love to be 140-150, but I don't know how that would look, so it will be a trial and error whenever I get down there. :)

You can do this! It is totally possible, and relatively painless after the first month or two! You discover you can eat a LOT (especially doing exercise) and yet still lose consistently.

I started at 346, now 242, 6 feet tall. Took me a lot of hard work and discipline. I'm not at goal yet, but in the process. I'm hoping to hit goal by September- October.

I am only 5'5" and my goal weight is currently set to 164. I have a large frame and just cannot see myself getting much lower than that.

Here is a link to my progress thread with some pictures:

Currently, I'm 269lbs. I'm 5'10" and my goal is 157lbs. Personally, I think 120lbs is too thin for 5'9". But, shoot for it girl! You'll never know until you try!

Whoever told you that is nuts. 120 pounds at 5'9 is a BMI of 17, not healthy! A BMI of 22 (the healthiest BMI) is 150 pounds but 170 puts you in the healthy range for your height. I think that setting a goal for healthy BMI is the best thing to do.

I was 264 last year at this time. I'm at a high of 190 right now. I posted a before and after thread this week. Ill go look for the link. It feels great to move down a bit.

We're almost the same! I'm 5'9", started at 274 and am currently 243. My goal weight is 170-175. I allowed myself extra weight because I'm already pretty muscular, and muscle weighs more than fat. I'm also planning to try and stay as curvy as possible, I'd rather not be super skinny. So 170ish is my healthy weight.

I was 281ish and I'm down to 197 today! I'll be posting pictures in a week or two.. as my 1 year is coming up so keep a look out or check out what I have up on my profile :)

Edit to say: I'm 5'4 and I think my goal was around 135 lbs the BMI said but not sure if I'm going that low, according how I look as I get closer... I am "big boned" as people say so I might not get that far.. we'll see.. I can still tell by looking in the mirror I have a ways to go.
