My doc NEVER said anything about my weight - even when I went over 200 lbs. I had blood work done and it showed me as "border-line diabetic". He never said anything then either. My family history (which I'm sure he has) also shows that both of my parents are diabetic. I wonder how long he was going to let me gain weight before he suggested weight loss? Or if he's just waiting for more serious side effects to eventually put me on insulin. I guess there are different extremes. My feelings weren't hurt, but my health could have been.
All things considered, I guess if the Dr. spoke up, I would have likely rebelled anyway and gained more weight. That seems to be the way I work. It had to be my decision to do this (with the right motivation).
    Good Luck! :flowerforyou:

I've had issues like this before. I have diabetes, heart problems and other health issues and still would delay seeing my doc for that same reason. A few years ago he gave me a very hard time about my weight and suggested several times that I get weight loss surgery. This after my father pressured me to get it too, several times, even saying he'd pay for it. I am very very against weight loss surgery in most cases. I made myself very clear to both of them. To me its addressing the effects of a problem not the actual problem.

I had to be very clear with my doc about my feelings. He doesn't suggest it anymore. However, I have come to understand that he really had my best interests in mind and wanted to help anyway he could.

You need to take control of your own health. You know best what is going on in your body. I would suggest you let your doc know how you feel and that the way he is going about helping you is negatively impacting your health care. If he doesn't change...get another doc! All doctors are not made that same.

Think of it this way. You are paying for a service, would you put up with bad treatment from your car repair man?

'How does one become a butterfly?, she asked. 'You must want to fly so much that you are willing to give up being a caterpillar.'

I don't pay for it actually...I get Medicaid. :embarassed:

Doesn't matter if you're paying for it or not, someone is paying for it, and the Dr. is getting paid.

Whose feelings are more important to you? Some person you will never run into socially (the Doc.) or your own? In case you're not sure. . .the answer to that question is "your own."

Take control of your life. . .take control of your care. . .you will not regret it, I promise you.

Make an appointment with another doctor, without telling the first, for a second opinion. You can ask your eating specialist doctor for a referral. After you meet the second doctor you can then make a decision whether or not you want to change doctors. You can actually interview doctors.

IT is not right that you dread going to the doctor. As you have been seeing one doctor since you were little it is now about the right time to choose your own doctor rather than the doctor your parents or grandparents chose for you. If it turns out that your current doctor is the best choice that is fine, but it is likely that you will chose someone more attuned to you.

I have moved a lot and each time I move it takes about four - five different doctors to find one I want to go back to again. It is not that the others are incompetent, rather I want someone who listens to me and incorporates that into my treatment.

    Good luck.

I have seen a few other doctors at her clinic over the years...like when my doctor was busy and couldn't fit me in and all. The one NP was kinda nice...she's the one who reffered me to the nephrologist. But are NPs as qualified as doctors to treat patients? I'd think they probably are...my psych is a NP and my ob/gyn is a PA...
