I found this list pretty interesting. I lived outside of Philadelphia for the past three years and now that I've moved back to the western part of the state near Pittsburgh, I def see a weight difference!! I never felt really HUGE (even though I am!) in Philadelphia like I do here in western PA. Now I know why.

I'm in the #1 fattest city? (Miami).

Sorry, but this is complete BS. I grew up in East Tennessee, and there are a LOT more overweight people that I saw there than when I moved to Miami. Miami is one of the fittest cities I've traveled to (I travel all over the world for business every year) in the US. Most of the cities in the midwest and deep south have severe obesity issues as far as I've observed.

I can totally see how Minneapolis is listed at the top. We have lots of parks, trails and lakes. Although we only have relatively nice weather 4-5 months out of the year we are outside kind of people. Lots of bikes and walkers out and about.

No way is Miami the fattest city! Everybody there runs around in tiny shorts and bikini tops. I think the biggest person I saw last time I was in Miami was probably a size 10. Sheesh!

I grew up in Baltimore (one of the fattest) and live in Virginia Beach (one of the fittest). Honestly, I can't say that I've ever noticed a difference between the two cities, although I'll be sure to pay more attention from now on. Really, I see plenty of overweight people here in VA Beach, even when it's not tourist season.

I live about 30-45 minutes inland from VA Beach....if VA beach is in the fittest cities then they must all live here! I work in a restaurant part time so I see a LOT of overweight/obese people- but on the contrary I can say when I go to VA Beach, there's tons of people walking, running, biking, and rollerblading along the beach so I can see how it would fall there too.

This brings back my funniest Tennessee memory.

I was there on a family vacation many years ago, we walked in to a restaurant and the hostess promptly welcomed us and asked “where ya’ll from?” We hadn’t yet said a word so she didn’t notice we were missing the southern accent, we didn’t park near the front so she couldn’t have seen our Ontario license plates but then we looked around, we were positively anorexic looking amongst the crowd. Who knew buffets were really full of people who wanted to be continuously gluttonous, I’ve never seen that before and since then I do not brave buffets in the US for fear of giving in to literally everything like everyone else but I love that story, makes me feel tiny.
  • Damn 17 on top fattest...well...I'm not really surprised

If you look at the article: http://shine.yahoo.com/channel/health/top-25-fittest-and-fattest-cities-in-the-u-s-351934 It is based on more than appearance of the people and the obesity level...

The deep south has a horrendous obesity problem. I'm a size 14 now, and when I go home, that's on the thin side of normal for most people there. It's really sad. The plus size section in most shopping stores is 2x as big as the misses section.

I lived in the hudson valley and grew up in DC, I always felt big there, now living in rural NW Pa, I was at my biggest and still felt small in comparison to the local population.

I feel that. I live in Austin, too, and when I first moved here from Houston, I was a little overwhelmed because there are people hiking and biking and swimming and running and everything else you can imagine all over the place. But that's actually part of what encouraged me to become one of "those people."

    From the article:

"So what about the South Beach Diet... and all those buff bodies you always see in the ocean-side metropolis? Even though Miami has a high number of health-food stores per capita, Men's Fitness found it also has nearly three times the fast-food restaurants as the average city. And while there are 79 percent more gyms and health clubs than average, residents are less likely to regularly use their memberships. Not many residents take advantage of outdoor activities, either."

    *buzzer* wrong...

I live in Miami, and I will tell you that most residents do go out every weekend to the beaches, parks, etc. The weather down here is amazing and most people do take advantage of it. Calling Miami the "fattest" city based on the number of fast food joints and gym attendance is ridiculous. I take it the guy who did this study has never been to Texas.

Woohoo! I live in the top fittest city! Go Salt Lake! It is a serious outdoor playground here when the weather is warm and even when it isn't, there's a rush of snowbunnies doing the snowboarding/skiing thing.

I live in the 8th fittest city in the usa.... well right darn near it anyway... and that makes sense, people are out biking hiking running walking playing sports all the time. since I moved here I have been the healthiest I have ever been in my life. And you better watch out if the sun even barely shows his face, then its like EVERY one finds and excuse to be outside.

Its awesome, and that is one thing I am greatful for!

BUT they also like the toe shoes... and are liberals lol I guess you take the good with the bad.

I'm surprised San Jose, Miami, and San Diego are some of the fattest cities. o_o I hope I don't offend anyone by saying this, but maybe they tallied a lot of the poor people who load up on carbohydrates...

Of course San Francisco is one of the fittest though...what do you expect walking straight up hills all day
