Fattest/Fittest cities in the U.S.

I am so not surprised that Colorado got not 1, but 2 cities on the fittest list with none on the fattest list. This is the 7th state I have lived in (Ohio, New York, Wisconsin, Washington, Georgia, and Massachussetts) and this is BY FAR the fittest state I have ever lived in or seen! I have also traveled to almost every state. I feel HUGE here, but when I leave I feel normal or sometimes smaller than the average!0

#10 fattest (
the local news station was actually talking about this sometime last week. lol0 -
um my whole state isnt listed in either!!
what does that make us???0 -
Austin is #17 most fittest.
I would say Austin is very fit. When we first moved here, that was one of the first things I noticed.. WHERE ARE THE FAT PEOPLE?!?!? It seems almost everyone is fit here and I love it, it just gives me more incentive. There are plenty of outdoor activities to do here, much more clean eating here, alot of more local restaurants that care about what they put in their dishes (not just fast food).. etc.
I love it!
Ha, just saw Houston (where I moved FROM) is #6 on the most FATTEST. Yup, no wonder everybody here seems so darn skinny.0 -

Average (not fat, not fit)...
or it makes your state the mystery spot. Your choice.0 -
Well I moved from Minneapolis #3 fittest to Charlotte #9 fattest and I would agree with the statement. I think I let myself go more living down here since most people are over weight and it almost felt like that should be the norm. People in Minneapolis even though the weather is bad the majority of the year are still outside all year around even if it is -25 degrees out they will be out cross country sking or snowboarding while in Charlotte the minute it gets below 65 people hole up inside because they are cold and then when it gets over 80 they hole up inside with the a/c on. Not to mention all the bbq and fried chicken.0

Not surprised my city (San Francisco) is one of the fittest. Everyone I know works out, tries to eat well, etc. Plus we have amazing mountains and hills and trails and lakes and oceans...and snow just a couple hours away!
But Sacramento as one of the FITTEST? No way..I stayed up there a few weeks for work and most people could stand to lose 10, 20, 50, or 100 lbs! It was a totally different atmosphere than the Bay Area. Gosh, if that's considered a fit city, we are doomed as a nation...0 -

Totally agree!0 -
I was surprised about Miami too. People down there seem super fit. Maybe all the fat people hide down there....I know i would0

#12 fattest - Detroit. Definitely not a surprise, but I'm working on throwing off that average!!!0

Agreed. Just moved here as well and I could not believe all of the fit people. Moving from San Antonio (#3) was a huge leap. Damn hills! I live on the top of one and that has made a huge difference in my legs.0 -
#4 Woohoo! Hard not to be somewhat fit when you live someplace like this.0

Maybe Miami only has a few residents and the rest are tourists from Utah???1

#6 Fittest- Portland, OR
I live in the Alberta Arts District, which is predominantly young hipsters. Seems like most days I am the fattest person I see, even riding the bus or heading down to broadway. Living in inner SE was the same thing, going to the bars or coffee shops, I was usually the fattest person there. The suburbs or further out towards them, though, totally different story, same as every other nondescript suburb in America, filled with people fighting with weight. Among young white people that live close in here, hardly anyone is more than 30lbs overweight. Some are a little soft and overweight, but obese? No way. Certainly makes dating a little tougher, but I've really improved my wardrobe since moving here to compensate. This time next year, I will fit right in. :-)0 -
I'm surprised L.A. is on that list. I am a giantess compared to a lot of my coworkers and friends. I want to strangle them when they ***** about having to always shop in the juniors department because they can't find clothes that fit anywhere else.0

I'm from San Antonio, Tx and yep, its heavy there! When I moved I lost 5 pounds, just from not having the option of grabing a breakfast taco, or any kind of good mexican food. :blushing: i miss the food so bad! lol0

Oh my! I moved from San Antonio to San Francisco not too long ago and I miss breakfast tacos soooooooooo much! Yum.0 -
I'm from Seattle-- there are a lot of fit people. Like someone else said, whenever it's sunny everybody is OUTSIDE! The parks are brimming with people.... the pools and lake shores are packed! And we're so used to the rain, we don't mind being outside in that either!0

I live near Charlotte, NC (#9). About an hour north. I am not surprised two cities in NC made the list. We southerners will deep fry ANYTHING! Not good for the body, but fantastic for the soul! lol Seriously, it's really sad. *sigh*0
-
I'm completely surprised MS wasn't anywhere on that list for fattest.0

____old thread_____
I am glad to see Oklahoma City has gone from 2 to 12, but still way too high.

Agree with the top 5 of the fittest. Lived in them all and compared to the rest of America. I’m all in. No comparisons. MN was actually pretty big with everyone being into fitness. Miami actually was not bad at all.0

I lived almost my entire life in Denver. When I moved to southeast Nebraska I was blown away by the level of obesity! After 10 years of working in the public school system, I am saddened by the large percentage of overweight and obese children!!0
-
L.A. was on the fattest list. I mean I know obesity is prevalent all over the US including here so I’m not really surprised. For some reason, people have an idea that the majority in LA look like movie stars. Nah.....1
-
Makes sense NY is on that list. We have some amazing food, so hard not to over undulge.0
-
Surprised where I live is nowhere on the "fattest" list. Since this state gets its fair share of fat jokes and obese redneck jabs.0

#16 in the fittest cities (St. Louis)
And no, it doesn’t really surprise me.
I’m happy to say we’ve got a really wonderful trail system (biking, jogging, walking) that snakes throughout the city that has become a major hub of activity. We also have an abundance of parks that make biking, jogging, and rowing easy activities.0
