I am looking for a small group of maybe 4 to 5 people who are willing to give and get support on a regularly basis through the month of July. I am personally trying to lose 5 to 7 pounds during the month of July so I can finally get to what I think is my happy weight. I would love to weigh in weekly, whatever day is best for the group.

I'd like everyone to be able to openly post, without judgment or negative criticism. We could offer inspirational quotes, yummy recipes, tips on how to workout when you just don't feel like it, anything!

Please serious inquiries only. I'd like to have the group established by July 1.

I'm new to this community. About 7 of my friends joined MFP with me ... and all haven't logged in since the first week. Would love to have some people to have support from and vice versa :)

Hey ladies, thanks for joining. I need maybe 1 or 2 more!
Please feel free to tell me a little about yourself and your name if you like, or if you prefer to go by your screenname, that's okay too.

My name is Leela. I have been on MFP for 410 days as of today!! I am getting very close to my goal. Will I set another goal after I met this one? Who knows? At that point, I will probably focus on inches and not pounds. I have been trying to tone by doing weight training 3 times a week, including meeting with a personal trainer once a week. I do zumba atleast 3 times a week at the gym. I also have it on the wii. Plus, I like to go on youtube and watch zumba routines, too! (yes, I love zumba!). It has really aided in my weight loss. Also, I have been on the 17 DD since mid May. I haven't been following it strictly lately, but I am loosely following it and still losing from it!

it's funny that you say that! I tell people all the time about this site and so far none of them have joined. I don't think they would be committed either. all the friends that I have on here are all cyber friends. Although in April, 5 of us (me, included) met up at a restaurant and had a healthy lunch and great conversation!
I hope to be able to offer you all the support you need in order to be successful!

Is the group closed yet? I'm hoping to lose 10 in July. I lost about 25 a year or so ago and have maintained. I'm ready to lose the last 10-15 to meet my goal. I alternate between strength training and cardio each day. I started 17DD on Sunday and I'm down 2 so far.
  • Do you still have room for one more? I'm looking to lose ~5lbs in July. I've lost about 7lbs so far (since the end of May). Right now I'm alternating between the 30 Day Shred, and regular strength training. I'm also hoping to start running within the next week or so, I just have to buy some good running shoes!

Any more room?? I'm at a standstill as well :( I need some motivation. 4 of my close friends joined this site with me, but after 5 months they are slowing fading away. I would love to lose 10 in July!

Thanks for stopping by! Congrats on your current weight loss! I completed the shred and it is a great program! I love how strong I feel since I've been weight training and shredding. I signed up to run myfirst 5k in mid August. I was supposed to do it in June, but was sidelined by a knee injury!

Friday is a great weigh in day for me:) Then maybe I can stay strong through the weekend :ohwell:
  • Awesome! Y'all can call me Garrett, or I'll answer to my screenname, whichever you prefer. (: I'm definitely looking for some accountability. I have the worst habit of talking myself out of exercising and into eating junk food.

I'll add you all as friends!

Oh, Friday weigh in is good for me too. I've been weighing in on Wednesdays, but I can bump it back no problem!

My name is Suzzanne. Friday weigh in is fine.

Maybe we could have a food challenge and an activity challenge going on at the same time.

How many of us are runners/walkers? We could do a miles challenge? I run at least a 5K every other day. I'm training for a marathon in October and I need a kick in the pants to up my running base. I was consistently running 7 miles in 60 min a few months ago but I had a particularly hard spring semester and had to back off in order to complete my research and papers. I haven't been able to build back up to that yet and I'm feeling a little discouraged.

As for food challenge .... I'm fresh out of ideas there.

I'll add you all as friends, too. I'm looking forward to being losers with you all this month. :-D

I go by Jae or Jenna, either or :) I joined MFP around 60ish days ago and am down 22lbs so far, recently broke a small plateau though so I need to step it up! I walk about 2.5-3 miles a day at a brisk pace and am trying to work myself up to running as soon as I can. It would be nice to have a push to get up to that faster.

Friday weigh ins would work. I tend to over weigh during the week anyway haha

My name is Jodie. I started MFP in January 2011 and have slowly lost 35 pounds. I want to drop the weight quicker. Since starting MFP I havent been able to exercise much so i think adding exercise will really drop off the weight. I am a busy mom of 2-4 kids ( 2 being my furture stepchildren that we only get on the weekends) and work fulltime in the ER. This is my first group so I'm super excited about the extra motivation.

Garrett, we will all get on track! Eating is not hard for me, its the exercise. it didn't used to be that way until my daughter got out of school for summer break. Now I'm always on the go doing activities with her or entertaining her at home. I have to get up early to do it or something. I always make it to my zumba classes, so maybe I should find a few more classes to join.

Jodie, I think 35 pounds since January is incredible. I don't think that's slow at all!! I have been doing groups for a while. But I've never really started my own. So that's kind of new for me too! :)

Jae, great job on losing 22 pounds in 40 days! You are definitely on the right track. I like that you are dedicated to your walks. Try to incorporate small jogging intervals, like 1 minute spurts, it will get your heart rate up and a small glimpse as to what it will be like to run. Do you have any previous injuries? or just a first time runner?

Suzanne, I love that you're training for a marathon. Its so inspirational!!

I like the idea of doing a physical activity and food challenge simulataneously.
For a food challenge how about we strive for atleast 4 servings of fruits and vegetables daily?
We can do a weekly miles challenge. Since everyone is different, just state your goal miles goal and try to meet or exceed it.
    How does that sound?

Seems like everyone is comfortable weighing in on Fridays, I'm fine with that!

    Keep the ideas coming!

Looking forward to pushing myself this month. I really want to start having consistent losses again.

I started in October and have lost 34 lbs.. I have hypo thyroid which hinders me somewhat in my weight loss which only adds frustration for me!! Basically I have lost almost NOTHING since April. I finally lost two pounds yesterday - YES!

I need to up my exercise - that is one of my goals this month to get back to doing home workouts in addition to my aqua aerobics 3-4 times a week.

Thanks for letting me me a part of a smaller group - it should be easier to keep up with everyone :)

Oh - my name is Bunny...

Bunny, I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis. I know exactly how you feel. It is very frustrating at times. I lose in waves. I won't lose anything for a long time and then, all of a sudden, poof! 2 lbs gone. I've eliminated white flour and sugar from my diet completely until I reach my goal. I watch carbs really carefully and avoid prepared foods. That seems to really help me. Congrats on your 2 lb loss! That's awesome!
  • I like the idea of a food challenge - eating healthy is so hard for me, what with working at a restaurant and everything.
Speaking of which, I had a VERY bad day today. According to my diary I was under my cal goal by ~100 calories, but I sure don't feel like it!

But tomorrow's a new month, and we're gonna do great. (: I'm going to go for my first run in AGES tomorrow morning.

first time runner. I never even ran the mile in elementary school. haha I've had chronic pain from surgery I had on my foot when I was 13 but Its not so bad until AFTER I work out so I hasn't slowed me down yet.

I'm a new to running as well. I have a long term goal for a mini triathalon that I hopefully can accomplish next fall. I love to swim and bike yet I always have trouble finding the time :grumble:
I have recently tried to incorporate my kids and have them ride their bikes while I walk/run.
  • Thanks Leela! I just got back from my run a few minutes ago, and it went super well. I forgot how much I actually enjoy running. I'm using the C25K app on my iPod, and I think its going to do a good job of easing me back into running. Its funny to think that this time two years ago I was running 15 mile practices for cross country... How out of shape have I gotten? Haha.

I also finished Day 5 of the 30 Day Shred, and its starting to actually get easier. I can make it through one full set of push ups now, and I'm going to up the weight I'm using, because things like the chest flies are getting too easy. Exciting!

Are we starting a food challenge?

OK I weighed in this morning at 190.5 lbs :( no change. But I have goals for improvement now :)

I'm assuming we are starting our week today since it is the 1st of the month.

Since I am totally new to running I'm setting my goal for this week at 3 miles. That's 0.5 mi for 6 days. ( 1 day of rest on my 16 hr shift at work lol).
Food goals: 4 servings of fruits and veggies/day: I have already had 2 for breakfast =)
My personal "food" goal is to drink 12 cups of water daily. I eat way too much sodium. I carry a lot of water weight because of this so I need to flush it out!!

I am so ready for a change its exciting!
