Shameful Secret Out in the Open

Ok, so I have this problem that I think needs to be said. It's been eating away at me for years now and maybe if I say it out loud I can finally admit that I have a problem. I have an addiction. I find myself with strong urges for it. I hide it from my family. I keep it in places that no one know about. I even take it in the car with me every morning on the way to work.
I actually kicked this habit a while back and I thought that I was going to refrain from ever touching the stuff ever again. But I've relapsed. I'm giving into my addiction right now as I type up this blog. It's so shameful. I know that if I want to continue on my healthy journey I have to stop this. And my kids! Oh no I'm supposed to lead by example. What kind of example am I setting for my children?
The worst part is that even at family gatherings I crave it. I sit there fidgeting and unable to keep still because the impulse of it takes over me and I almost lose all control. I guess it's time to kick this terrible habit once and for all. It's time to admit it and move on or I'll never get to where I want to be on this journey. Today I make change. My name is Jeniffer and I'm addicted to bread. Yes bread.
The flaky crust, the doughy middle. Wheat bread, white bread, pumpernickel, cinnamon raisin, multigrain, bagels, baguettes, croissants, flatbread, breadsticks, cuban bread, puertorican bread, haitian bread, garlic bread......... I could go on and on and on. I ate about half of a wheat bagel while I was typing this and I'm going to throw the other half away. After admitting to my problem I feel that this is the right time to let go. I've lost 31 pounds and It's hard for me to tone my tummy because of this bread addiction I got going on.
Well no more! So I'm sorry. I apologize to my family and my friends. They thought I was the strongest person ever for giving up bread. I failed them. Not to worry though. I'm going to learn new ways to stop theses terrible cravings and I'm sure that when I see how nice and toned my tummy looks, bread will be in the past and I'm going to look forward to my sexy future.
Anyway, thanks for listening. I don't know if any of you share the same addiction or a similar one but if you do and you've gotten passed it then please let me know how you won this battle.

You don't have to give up bread! Just eat better bread and small quantities of the not-so-good bread.0

I am addicted to food. I ate some today, and yesterday, and the day before, and the day before that, and the day before that. As far back as I can remember, I've been eating food every single day. It just never gets old.0

I love it too!! I just try to less of it. Its really hard at restaurants when they bring it out and set it right in front of you with that little bowl of butter!!! Good Luck!!0

Addiction is way different than just liking something. When a person is addicted to something, sometimes they do have to give it up. Think about alcohol addiction. You wouldn't tell that person. Well, you can have a little, just in moderation. The same goes for certain food addictions, unfortunately. There are certain foods I cannot go NEAR, and anytime I do, it spells bad news.0 -
I agree Jenny, efff you bread!!!! hahaha0

I have the same addiction... I have done well so far with counting calories, but for me to sit down and toast pretty much a half a loaf of bread with butter on it was not a problem for me and I loved it! I'd rather have that than any candy or dessert!! I love bread!! But I have cut it down and two toast with lots of butter is a treat for me if I am a good girl and also a Mt. Dew when I feel I deserve it... I am addicted to those two things... don't think I'll ever really get over them, sigh....0

We share the same addiction.....0 -
Best of Luck it's hard. I eat bread maybe once a month. And I'm able to control my diabetes by diet now with cutting carbs.0

You are not alone... I too am addicted to bread! You do not have to cut bread out completely, you just have to find healthier breads to eat. I prefer Nature's Own Honey Wheat bread. It's only 40 calories a slice.0

I adore good bread, but it is not good for me. Too much triggers heartburn and high triglyceride levels for me (based on my own experience). I can't give it up entirely without some compelling reason like celiac disease. I still eat bread, but mostly just the sourdough bread that I make myself. The rest isn't really worth it to me.0

If there are any Archer Farms chips in the house I go nuts and eat the whole bag. =/0

Bread, crackers--yes, I love them, too! Don't have a sweet tooth but I have a bread tooth! :laugh:0

You can make it better by learning to make your own at home. Make in batches and freeze. That way its not processed and you know exactly whats in it. A lot of whole foods and health food stores have all the ingredients that you need. You dont have to have a bread baker/oven. I dont. I just use my regular baking oven.0

I'm addicted to Mayo, so I choose high fiber bread (rye wraps, etc.), lettuce, tomato, mushrooms, black olives, bell pepper slices, a touch of mustard, and a tablespoon of the mayo made from olive oil (healthy fat is better than the rest!). I get fiber, vitamins, and olive oil for my body, and especially my joints. Will that help you? :drinker: (lots of water)0

I have been freed from being slave to the great white (or whole grain as you might have it) monster by switching to a Primal/Paleo diet. I use portabello mushroom caps for bread (or romaine lettuce if I want a wrap). I'm very satisfied & don't miss bread (even though I was a total sandwich hound before)0

Bread and ice cream are my weaknesses. So, I've become a food "Snob". If it isn't the "best stuff" on the market, I turn my nose up and walk away. No more Dairy Queen, too watery. No more Breyers, not creamy enough. By being a "Snob" I can resist 90% of the temptations. The occasional Ben and Jerry's, Godiva, or Haagen Daz won't kill me. Just log the calories and budget. But a daily bowl of Blue Bunny will sabotage my efforts as surely as the sun is gonna rise.
Bread-wise, find the $$$$ good stuff. Make a solid sandwich with good whole grain bread, get your nutrients and take the calorie hit, but you will feel full.
Eat the cheap foam bread that permeates the American market, and you will never sate your desire for bread, and will blow your calorie budget for the day or week.
Become the "Snob", it will help you stave off temptation.0 -
You need to read the book "Why Can't I Stop Eating" It is a real eye opener! Talks about how sugar/carbs are listed with cocaine and morphene as "mind altering" substances. That to some people it acts just like a drug to a drug addict and alcohol to an alcoholic.0

I think I'm at the point where I need it to live. It's really bad.0 -

NO one would want to be around me if I cut out bread completely ... I just savor it in moderation instead0

Ask them not to bring it right when you sit down. They might look at you weird but who cares.0 -
I am firmly convinced that bread is the greatest invention in the history of the world. I have to be very, very careful with it or I will consume an entire loaf without even blinking. I feel your pain, OP.0

I'm a "breaditarian". When it's warm out of the oven it's even worse!:ohwell:0

I hardly ever eat bread, never white, and never in restaurants. I love Ukranian loaf, which is a dark bread
with seeds and herbs blend. Hard to find. I will eat Irish style soda bread with smoked salmon anytime I can get it.
But there you have it, quantity is limited by availability.0
