    No this is not an exercise thing...
    Planking...its supposedly the new trend of kids these days. I seriously don't understand why it became so popular and how idiotic it is by laying straight on things. I know people have become offensive because it goes back to the slavery days but what is this world coming to. Stupid planking, another mindless excuse to feel like your "cool". Anyhow there's my rant and goodnight :yawn:

    I think it's funny...no dumber than the garden gnome being a super model. I laugh damn hard when someone is planking for a picture.

    Some of them maybe...and probably the initial people that did it were doing just that. I read around a little, and mostly it appears to me like most other fads. They're doing it to 'be cool'. Just like people sagging their pants. They are emulating others they admire, be it a person or a group...that have done the same.

    I think planking is hilarious!! The whole concept is so idiotic that it's funny (although I've never done it, but whenever someone talks about it or I see a picture of someone planking, it makes me laugh)....maybe Im just easily amused;)

    Maybe it is just late and my sense of humor is gone to sleep but what is funny about laying down? I don't care if other people do it and post it, it doesn't bother me or offend me, but... why?

    People do it because it is funny. A guy in one of my favorite bands, his nephew posted a picture of him planking. On a surfboard. While it was on the checkout thing at the store. I laughed for about an hour.

    It isn't that big of a deal. I like video games and some think that they are pointless. Some people think meditation is pointless.Trying to evaluate the things that people choose to do for fun is pointless.

    Also, for the record, planking doesn't happen in comfortable/common places or in privacy. Essentially, if you plank and no one is there to see it (or snap a pic), your planking efforts are insignificant.

    I used to do this all the time when I was a kid.... except my mom called it laying on the back of the couch.

    Although I would not do this now because I am fat, and have poor balance I see the allure. Its like why when you walk next to a planter box you feel the uncontrollable need to use it as a balance beam? Its just fun....

    Hm, I don't think it had to do with "one person" deciding it was based on slavery, if you actually read up on it, it IS based on what the slave owners used to have the slaves do.

    It's pretty sad when it becomes a game to ppl who have no idea what the term truly means.

    If someone says something is racist that doesn't mean something is only done by one race.:noway: :laugh: :laugh: I'm sorry, I really tried not to laugh at your explanation up there but I can't help it... it's just well, naive & uninformed.

    You also stated that " you don't get it", so that might be partly why you think it's a pretty innocent game.

    This. The couple of people who have decided to evaluate whether this is "racist" or not - no one said anyone thought this was racist. No one. The OP cited that planking has its roots in slavery. That is a fact. Point blank.

    this is hysterical and I think I am going to start planking and posting photos on MFP! I had to google it and it makes me giggle. As long as people are being safe about it (which apparently not all of them are) what is the harm. I could see this becoming my husband and my new things (yes, sometimes I act like I'm 12) So sue me! I love and enjoy life...aint nothing wrong with that.

    I wondered what the new trend would be... everyone shifted from going to see local bands/being in bands ... to MMA/UFC... and now, planking. If you ever needed proof that you stopped talking to your highschool friends when you went to college, FOR A REASON ... there it is, lol.

    Now, if I ever get pregnant again I'm totally going to plank everywhere... of course I don't plan on getting pregnant anytime soon so by then, planking will no longer be cool and just be "so 2011". I'll never be cool. lmao

    It's just the silliest thing, but when I recently saw some photos of friends of mine doing the plank poses, it DID look pretty funny
