Hi everyone!! This will be our team forum so we can get to know one another and support each other!! Today, Mon July 11, 2011 is our start date. We have moved 107 miles so far today and only 2/3 of our group has checked in so far!! Woo!! We are going to be caught up and rowing by in no time!
Here is the email I sent out earlier today:
Monday 7/11/2011 – Start Day!!
Hey my new dearest world sailors!! I hope you all are having an amazing day today and I want to thank you so much for joining! I am very excited about this so we can all motivate one another and make sure we are doing our best each and every day!
First of all I want to start by announcing the names of our sailors 1. samb (myself), 2. Mojo75, 3. Brian90, 4. Ahlexz, 5. avninjalette123, 6. keith0373, 7. Noonoo757, 8. Piratejenny, 9. EmmaNEEDSskinny, 10. Alliecore, 11. Chell1717, 12. Wendyma1, 13. Alisons7598, 14. Lilricki, and 15. Nascent.
If you are not yet friends with the crew members you may want to add them through this journey to help support one another because we are going to kick some major butt!
IMPORTANT ANNOUCEMENT: This week Tuesday is going to count for double & Saturday is going to count for triple!! So the more we exercise those days, we will be put ahead even further! Each week they change the days that are double/triple/etc to keep it interesting. These days are usually when mates will save their long workouts for so they count for a lot extra.
HOW THIS WORKS:
There are several boats that are racing to row around the world. The boat to get to the finishing point in New Zealand first wins (based on the day they get there)! I believe the distance is approximately 25,000 miles, which means we need to burn 1,250,000 calories!!! The other boaters actually started last week but we are going to kick their butt anyways!
For every 50 calories you burn that equals 1 mile rowed (2 miles on the double days and 3 miles on the triple days!!). So the more calories you burn the more miles the boat is going to travel in a day.
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:
All you need to do is 1) workout each day & do your BEST! (but we will allow you to have rest days hehe) & 2) each day when you are done working out, submit your calories burned to me by messaging me @ samb. 9pm EST will be the cut off for that specific day. That is when I will send over our team daily total. But don’t worry if you can’t get it to me by then because you have not finished your workout yet, just send it over when you are done and it will just be counted for the next day!
If you are not sure of your calories burned you may want to refer to this site & make an educated guess: http://www.healthstatus.com/calculate/cbc or you may want to use a heart rate monitor.
MAP OF THE BOAT RACE:
You can watch the race on the site below and see the team names and who belongs to them. This is updated daily I believe!

I will start off by introducing myself. I am Sam from Connecticut, USA and I am thrilled to be a part of this challenge!! I cannot wait for us to get around the world!! I am a very motivated and caring person who loves riding horses, biking, walking, jogging, sprinting, kayaking, tennis, and really any possible activity you could do outdoors. I am currently looking to lose 8 more pounds, but base my goals & progress more on actual measurements than weight. My diet is primal/low carb/anaerobic (& for 4 years I was a vegetarian/high carb up until a few months ago). My exercise usually consists of riding my bike, riding my horse, HIIT sprinting, Strong Lifts 5x5, P90X, calf raises 3 ways - from P90X, ab exercises mostly from Ab Ripper X, 30 Day Shred, No More Trouble Zones, and Banish Fat Boost Metabolism. Right now it is a big mix because I am traveling, but I fit a lot into my week. I love working out! This race is actually motivating me more than you could imagine. Since going low carb I have been riding my bike and horse but haven't done much strength training. Today is my start day as well as the start day for the rowing!! I hope to get to know the rest of you very well through this challenge and I hope I can help motivate you to reach your goals! "Life is short so love the life you live & always do your best....if you don't like something, change it!" We got this0
-
We're at 118 miles now Your all doing great keep up the terrific work!!0
-
I'll be next! My name is Wendy and I'm from Roseville, CA. Very excited to be part of this team! I orignally joined to lose an extra 10 pounds and to lose inches. I love my elliptical machine, doing anything outside such as walking, jogging and swimming. I like the fact that I am part of a team and am now accountable for my action or non-action! This is my first time on a rowing team, so really looking forward to the experience. So let's get this party started and kick some butt!!!!!!0

Awesome!! I think that is one of the best benefits we will all be held accountable to workout, we have others depending on us! Woooohooo we are going to kick some major butt! Glad your a part of the team!0 -
I'm Alison I'm from Ohio. I originally only joined MFP to help out a friend and it just clicked. My goals are to be at my pre-baby weight but I'm also ok with stopping when I feel it's right for me. Since I'm a SAHM mom to 5 kids (3-15) my workouts are done at home. I like to walk, recently found Zumba for Xbox, and of course swimming with my kids while I can. This row challenge is going to be great for me since some days my mom life makes it hard for me to exercise and I now have something to motivate me when that happens. Let's go team, we got this!0

Hi guys! My name is Denise (but I prefer Allie) and I live in Mansfield, Missouri. I have an amazing husband and 3 very cool kids. I found my new obsession this spring: MUD RUNNING! I'm already signed up for next year, and registered as competitive.
I love to kick a$s in the weight room and enjoy trying to beat my own records. I dabble in running, even though it does NOT come naturally for me. I'm excited to be on this team! Let's get out there and show what we're made of!!!0 -
Thanks for making me part of your team. Ill make tomorrow a 3 workout day. Cardio at the gym in the AM. Lunch WOrkout, then mow the lawn tomorrow instead of tonight. I might was well double the miles for something that I ahve to do anyway . .lol0
-
Nice to officially meet you Sam. And nice to meet you Wendy, Alison, and Allie.
So I'm Alexz, I'm 22, and I'm from Fresno, California (USA). I'm going to be living in Fort Collins, Colorado (USA) starting next week, because I am going to be starting veterinary school there in the fall!! And I just finished getting my undergrad degree in Chicago, Illinois... so I'm just going all over the place!
I've done a bit of running (lots of small races, two half marathons, and one full marathon), but I don't enjoy it as much as I should. I just enjoy the feeling AFTER I run and the fact that it burns lots of calories! Other than running, I like bumming around the gym and using all of the different cardio machines. I don't do much outdoors (especially now since Fresno summers don't permit much between 8am - 8pm since it gets to be hotter than hell here), but I'm hoping that will change when I move to Colorado.
I'm really excited to be a part of the team! I've got a competitive spirit so I'll do my best. (:0 -

I guess I am next! Hello all my name is Stephanie, usually go by Stefunny. I'm 21, Married, have a 3 year old and just found out one on the way! So I'll be the preggers ;] I joined MFP in Feb of this year looking for a way to lose the baby weight I have struggeled to lose over the last three years. I graduated from highschool early, had my daughter and jumped right into college for two degrees, one in Administrion of Justice and the other in Deaf Studies. My husband is in the Army so we just recently moved to Fort Hood, Tx, originally from Lancaster/Palmdale, Ca (the place Afroman sings about). I am hoping to only gain the needed 15-20 lbs in this pregnancy and lose it and maybe more only 4 months after having this next baby (due March 10th 2012) for my sister's wedding where I am her MOH. I have 4 tattoos and 13 piercings, hoping to add more of each after this baby. ;]0

Sam- as for boat names, lilricki had some suggestions: "I've got....1) Ship for Brains 2) Mental Practice 3) Shredding Water 4) Tip-Sea 5) Wet Dreams 6) Seas the Day 7) Chicken Ship..."
According to the responses - #6 was in the lead. Anyone has any input that didn't see her post? Or any ideas of their own?0 -
It is so nice to meet all of you & get to win this challenge with you I love how we are all from such different areas but can be working together as a team! Just waiting on 4 more people to submit their calories burned today, we are now at 129.5 miles!! Woo!! WTG team! I am excited for tomorrow’s double day!! Maybe we can catch up to the other teams!!!
LilRicki had the idea of the name of our boat to be “Shredding Water” or "Seas the Day"
What does everyone think? Any other ideas?0 -

So we will post our calories here each day, right? Or do you prefer that we message you with them? I'll just post here for now...
I know it's past today's deadline, but I figure you can add it to tomorrow's... I burnt another 193 calories on my evening walk with my momma (:0 -
You can post them here or through message, either way is fine with me0

Hello!
My name is Tessa and I live in Pullman, Washington. I was a research assistant working towards my degree in Comparative Ethnic Studies, Women's Studies & Sociology before funding got so tight my position was cut and my program(s) lost some key people. So, now I garden, read, cook, and work out when not job hunting for non-existent positions.
I am training for a half marathon for my 40th birthday (which is on August 8th) so all the extra running should work well for the team!
I work out six days a week, alternating my running (I also row & use the arc trainer / elliptical) with strength training. In addition to my gym workouts I walk at least five miles in the mornings at a pretty fast pace and try to hike between 12 to 16 miles on Sundays.
I work out later in the day, so I hope that is not an issue! I will try to post before 9:00pm (EST, right?) but sometimes I do not get out of the gym until after 8:00pm (Pacific).
Please feel free to add me! I am friendly, supportive and only marginally insane.0 -
I like Seas the day and Shredding water. sorry for responding so late. Was a busy day yesterday. My name is Brian. i live in New Jersey. Have lived here my whole life. i have always enjoyed working out and staying active. Used to work for the family landscaping business and workout at the gym. I still help out at the business but not as much. I am recent graduate of The College of New Jersey with an accounting degree. I currently work in the tax department at a reinsurance company until i find a full time job. I am also a beachbody coach. I have done p90x, insanity and other beachbody workouts. I am gearing up for a round of Insanity: they asylum. Some passions and hobbies would be: working out, reading, riding quads and snowmobiles, muscle cars and trucks, and enjoy working on my truck. Looking forward to this Challenge!0
