Do you find this offensive?

Everyone's body is different. Some people really can eat an entire large pizza in one sitting and still be perfectly healthy. Just depends on how efficient your metabolism is. It's not fair, but it's a fact of life.
With that said, if your friends are actively trying to get you to join them, or are criticizing the way you eat, *that* does annoy me. I have been to a lot of places like potlucks and restaurants where there were only one or two items on the menu that I could eat (I have hyperinsulinemia so I've had to cut out all sugars & grains from my diet). And people would keep suggesting things: "Surely you could eat a bite of fruit salad?" or "One cookie isn't going to kill you..." And I know they mean well, but I have done the research and I know what I can and cannot eat, and they need to respect that. If I eat a single cookie, it will spike my blood sugar and two hours later I'll crash & feel like crap. Sorry, but I don't want to put myself through that, even for your grandmother's to-die-for secret-recipe super-cookies.
So I totally feel your pain & frustration! Just hang in there and remind yourself that they're speaking from concern and/or ignorance.0 -
I think too many people try and interfere with others lifestyles as it is...................live and let live is what I say, if there is no direct harm to you, just let it be.....we need to remember we have choices too, dont force your beleifs on others. Would you ask a tranny not to wear a skirt around you cause it makes you uncomfortable? SUCK IT UP...LIVE AND LET LIVE!
I like your transvestite analogy.0 -
Nope, doesn't bother me at all.0

Honestly, it strikes me as really judgmental and over-reactive.
I wouldn't find it offensive at all. But I have a different approach where nothing is ever off limits, so I'm not going to be jealous of a bacon double cheeseburger or a great big slice of pizza. I eat both myself. I know there's no way I'd have successfully lost weight and gotten healthier if I thought I could never have pizza or burgers again.
Plus, I have a cast iron stomach. Anyone can eat anything around me and it doesn't bother me. Hell, when I worked at a vet's, I had lunch with a freshly removed infected cat uterus in a stainless steel bowl next on the same table. A greasy pizza might not be my thing (I tend to blot excess grease), but it's not going to bother me.
But what it boils down to is... That's them, not you. Either they have the metabolism and activity level to be able to eat that stuff, or they'll pay the price for it. That has nothing to do with you and your path.0 -
Unfortunately it's part of life. There are foods we have to or choose to avoid because we are trying to lose weight, and they probably figure YOU are trying to lose weight not them. Sadly it's something you just have to "get over' because I know honestly, If I weren't trying to eat right and we went out to eat,I'd get what I wanted to eat, not something light just because the person with me is trying to lose weight. It's not about being mean its about having the strength to make the right choices for you.0

You are blowing it way out,if you were a true friend they should be able to eat what they want around you without getting told what horrible friends they are. Unless they are trying to cram the pizza in you're mouth then its your problem not theirs0

The only one who can offend me is me. I recently went on a cruise, and I ate what I wanted to eat. Not what the person next to me was eating, or because there was lots of it, I just ate what I wanted. Whether it was pizza, cookies, fried fish, eggs, sausage, tacos, jerk chicken, rice and beans, salad, watermelon, pineapple, muffin, cake, lobster...I did it for me. If someone next to me was eating something I did not like, good for them, but it did not make me want to do it because I knew that I would be the one who had to pay for it in the gym, not them. You life cannot be dictated by what is going on around you, but by what is IN you. So, let them drip their pizza juice over their shirt while you bite into your sweet delicious red apple. Let them eat red velvet cake while you take a bite of your rice cake. Let them contine to take their shot of Whiskey, while you down your protein shake....OK, maybe you can join them for a shot of Jack Daniels, but only if you want to. Enjoy life sweetie, it is too short to spend it worrying about what others are or not doing.0

i refuse to answer on the basis that i will get modded once again....because apparently you people can be judgement *kitten* but if i call you out on your jackassery, i will get modded and perhaps shut down.0
-
You're friends are making a joke out of being healthy because downplaying it's importance makes it easier for them to continue denying how much they WISH they could do what you're doing.
Keep pushing. Become the person they wish they could be.0 -

damnit, proofer...judgemental *kitten* even...0 -
A wise person once told me, "noone can offend you without your permission." Quit giving them your permission. I find that when things that others eat, etc offend or bother me it usually has more to do with me than them.. Just as you choose healthy lifestyle and eating, they choose otherwise.... It has more to do with our (those who have been obese) thinking than what the other person is actually eating.. IMHO...:)0

judging from your picture i'm sure you find tons of things offensive. get over it0

No, I dont think it is offensive at all. It comes a time when you need to make a choice. If you cannot handle beoing around it, dont be. I am big on the "suck it up attitude" today. Communicate to them that you dont want to be around those types of food, and if they blow you off well they arent that good if friends anyways!
I agree!0 -
stop whinin.....this is getting old, last time I checked you control your mouth and brain, not your friends.0

I don't get so annoyed with people eating junk around me as much as the "Oh, you can't eat this..." comments, as if I might die by eating it or on the other hand, trying to force food on me. I'm the type that it is easier to say "no" than "stop", and if I avoid it to start off with I don't have to worry about my turn off mechanism not working! And spending the majority of my time around church people who like to eat, it isn't always easy!0

Sounds like the real problem is that you don't respect what THEY are doing.0
-
Wow, I think you are trippin hard..... Leave ppl alone, and let them eat what they want... "Glorify God" that way..... Weird..........0
-
If YOU make a choice to change YOUR eating habits, why is it offensive that people make their own choice to eat what they choose. Is the whole world supposed to cater to your newfound healthy lifestyle? Sorry, but that sounds a bit childish to me. Live your life. Let others live theirs. Otherwise, you're imposing un-necessary drama on yourself.0
-
You're the one on the diet. What other's eat, friends or not, is their business not yours. Getting upset over it makes absolutely no sense to me.0
-
If your friends do this, then maybe start planning social stuff that doesn't involve restaurants or eating. Good luck!0

I understand where you are coming from, but i also agree with the the below post. You are making the choice to eat healthier and make a better lifestyle for you, and you only ( i hope anyway) and while thier undying committment, and nonstop support and jump on the bandwagon would be amazing and welcomed, most likely it is not going to happen. I say this from experience. I have been on this "journey" of losing weight for 5 years, and let me tell you, when i was thinking crap, i have over 100lbs to lose and these a-holes think it's okay to eat pizza in front of me?....it set me back...but they do have the right to. They might go run 12 miles in the morning every morning and not share that with everyone. To each thier own, you just need to be strong in the fact that you are making better strides for yourself. I know it does suck tho. When you are warming up a lean cuisine and side of steamed veggies, and they frying fish sticks and tator tots ( haha, actually that sound horrid but its the first thing i came up with) anyway, just be strong in why you are doing this. Eventually it wont become so hard, and i think they'll come around to see that it's not worth it to "tempt" you if they do, and that you are sticking to your guns. It's hard- and it gets harder, no lie. i am on my last 13 -20lbs, and have been, for almost a year...TRUST ME ITS HARD...but you have plenty of support here, and you CAN do this! No, I dont think it is offensive at all. It comes a time when you need to make a choice. If you cannot handle beoing around it, dont be. I am big on the "suck it up attitude" today. Communicate to them that you dont want to be around those types of food, and if they blow you off well they arent that good if friends anyways!0

Nope, not offensive.
It sounds like you are really focussed on your weight loss journey, but this doesn't give you any entitlement to control what everyone else eats or to be derogatory about their food choices. I'm guessing you may have eaten the odd pizza or two yourself in order to become overweight - I know I have!0 -
I don't find that offensive at all. They are eating what they are "used" to. Doing as they choose. It's not on their mind. For me trying to lose weight and eat healthy is a battle that I fight every day. I have a ton of things that I have to do and think about to stay on track. Your friends are most likely not even doing 1 little thing to try and change their habits, they are just plain old 'living'. Because of my choice to be Vegan (for 3 years now!) I'd NEVER expect one person in my group of friends or family to stop shoving dead cows in their mouths. I only cringe if I imagine taking a bite. I could care less what they do. Also I haven't eaten fast food in 3 years, I get a weak stomach if I hear about it, see it or smell it, etc. but I'm not offended. I roll my eyes sometimes because I think how can people be so ignorant to put that poison into their bodies. I care for people and want them to change, but if they aren't willing, their choices don't offend me. I am sure none of your friends wish to make you feel bad, the world is totally against us. People are always offering me doughnuts, junk, etc. I simply either throw it away when they aren't looking or deny it, etc. Good luck to you!0

I don't think it's very nice that people are telling the OP to stop being judgmental, yet some people are clearly judging her based on the profile picture and her signature. All she did was ask a question, and while you may not agree with her, there's no need to be harsh for no reason.0
