how many eggs are too much?

Hmm... I have two eggs in the morning, usually. Sometimes I'll even have two eggs and make deviled eggs with them. So approximately four is about my limit, but I don't see any harm if you chose to have it morning, noon, and night. If you feel a change that you don't like from it, cut back. Of course, I'm sure there's someone that eats/drinks eight to ten eggs raw somewhere.0

Two or three dozen a day may be excessive, but eggs are healthy and good for you. Eat them, enjoy them. that's what they are for.0

Eggs are good for you, but everyone's metabolism and the way their body deals with cholesterol is different. The only way to know is blood work.
Some people are fine with eggs every day and have no cholesterol problems, but for other people, eggs everyday can raise the LDL. When I was eating 1-2 eggs a day, my LDL was higher.
Now I use egg beaters (or whatever brand is fresh and has a decent price at the time) and whole eggs sometimes and my LDL is fine.
Granted eggs weren't the only factor that I changed to improve my blood work when my total cholesterol was like 232 or something and my doctor was saying time for statins! (which I refused), but to test the theory, after I got my cholesterol down, I went back to the hard boiled egg a day with breakfast thing and my LDL creeped back up again even with my total cholesterol under 200 and my HDL over 50. So, that's me. YMMV0 -
I have at least 2 every day, but sometimes up to 4. Includes 2-4 strips of bacon and two slices of whole grain toast with Kerry Gold butter. My cholesterol came back recently being great with HDL very high and LDL low so I am keeping with my plan.0

Eat plenty of eggs - for vitamins and minerals. Egg whites have protein and little else, which is why they are lo-cal.
Also, only eating the whites is a miserable, miserable way to live.0 -
I eat 2 dozen a week, so 2-4 a day isn't excessive in my opinion.0
-
Rarely more than 10 in a day .
Ok, usually no more than 5, but often will have 5 if I have some for breakfast and some later.
I'd only worry about the yokes if it's pushing your macros/calories out.By the way, if you can find them and afford them, try to get the free range pastured eggs, where chickens are out pecking away at the grass. Those eggs are so much healthier than the caged or quarantined kind, and you can see the difference in the color and taste of their incredible bright orange yolks.0 -
In my guy's opinion 4 eggs is too much. In my opinion 5 is a little overboard.0
-
The thing I would be concerned about is developing an allergy to them by eating them every single day. Otherwise I think sugar and junk carbs are worse for your cholesterol and health than eggs. I love Alfresco's free range brown eggs!0
-
I eat 1 a day. 2-4 seems like a bit too much to me, mostly from a digestive standpoint. I feel like that many would give me horrendous gas.
There is SOOOOO much conflict information on eggs. I definitely do believe that you should eat the yolks though. Dr. Oz (of all people) finally made me realize why the yolks are important. To paraphrase, he basically said that all the nutrients are in the yolk, the yolk is what the developing fetus would use to grow into a chick. It's obviously nutrient packed!
I like the idea of 1-2 eggs with some added egg white for extra bulk and protein. That way you get the nutrients from the yolk, enough protein, and you aren't possibly going overboard on the cholesterol.0 -
I love eggs. Sometimes I'll eat 2 in am, then instead of grabbing fast food I will make 2 for dinner. They're so easy to make.0
-
I usually have 1 whole egg every day. Mostly I eat them at breakfast. If I know that I'm going to make savory crepes for dinner though (1-2 eggs in my portion) I will swap out yogurt and/or oatmeal for breakfast that day.
I would be a little concerned about having 3 or more every day. But that's just me. You have been given some great advice here I think.0 -
I don't eat them every day, but about 2x a week 6 at a time0
-
I eat 8 egg whites and 1 whole egg everyday... I only eat one yolk/day because of the cholesterol and they are much higher in calories than just the whites. Does this seem excessive? Maybe :bigsmile:0
-
Too many? When you don't want to eat them anymore. Then you have had enough eggs.
Eggs are actually as close to nature's perfect food as you can get. Easy to buy, relatively cheap, and so very good for you. Eat as many as you want.0 -
One. Eggs are flippin disgusting0
-
I think four is fine! Back when I was about 34 years old and in the best shape of my life, I ate four eggs every morning for breakfast.0

To all of you egg lovers out there I would like to direct you to something that may change your minds about eggs.
Saying that eggs in general are good for you is indeed very wrong because the facts are that it depends on how you prepare them.
For example scrambled eggs will pose great harm if eaten in quantity or with any frequency!!
Poached, hard-boiled, over easy or just about any way you cook them, eggs are good sources of nutrition. Except scrambled, that is.

Pass it on!!
Use the Myfitnesspal database and look-up scrambled eggs paying close attention to the cholesterol.
Now do the same for those beloved pork link sausages.
Now please agree that those numbers are very scarey indeed, enough to make me never want them again!

Um, what? The preparation of the egg doesn't change the nutrition. Also, what does cholesterol have to do with anything? An egg has about 200mg, always have. Dietary cholesterol is digested and broken down, blood serum cholesterol is actually made by the body, regardless of how much cholesterol you eat.
Oh I see, a Mercola story, no wonder it's completely wrong...0 -
I eat about 1 organic egg daily. My total cholesterol/LDL/HDL/triglycerides are all normal the last time I checked.
I find Dr. Mercola is a shill. He pushes all sorts of products and relies on pseudoscience. He has been warned by the FDA about his practice of promoting products.0 -

I've eaten as many as nine in a day sometimes....
.....including fried (though more often boiled, chopped and mixed with mayonnaise and eaten inside white bread.... or boiled and dipped in greek yoghurt based dip, depending on what fits into my macros)0 -
I have between 4 and 8 eggs per day. There is no need to limit them unless you have been advised to by a doctor. They are a great source of protein, fat, and vitamins and minerals.
pretty much this^^^
I eat 4 fried eggs everyday for breakfast with the yolk. If I am having a salad the same day I usually boil between 3-4 eggs to eat with the salad. So I eat 4 eggs per day regardless but sometimes I eat 8. I never discard the yolks.0 -

I also don't like articles that use bold to try and scare people.
Also, while it does list three books; articles that don't back up the important facts.
Sounds like viral scaremongering to me - someone is trying to make a quick buck or have a laugh at your expense.0 -
3 whole eggs scrambled is my early-lunch of choice
The saturated fat is relatively high, but the foods not processed and it's tasty!
Gaston eats 4 dozen eggs a day (to help him get large)

I'm a big believer in eggs. I'll have 2-3 a day, usually for breakfast, with the yolks. Sure the cholesterol is there, but so are a lot of awesome vitamins.
I agree with this! I love eggs, even whole!0 -
I usually eat 4 whole eggs a day. Two with breakfast to make banana and egg pancakes, and two hard boiled for an easy to pack snack for work. Everything I have read about eggs has said that the cholesterol in this is not an issue for people who have normal cholesterol levels.
The book 'The Happiness Diet' has a very interesting section on eggs.0 -
No limit for me especially if they are being produced by our (very) free range chooks.0
-
I eat 2 or 3 a day. I love them hard boiled for lunch with some stir fried food, I hold it in my hand and eat it like a piece of steamed chinese bread, so it helps me replace the carbs. I see them as little balls of goodness0
-
When I have scrambled eggs I bung 5 of them in.
I'm still alive, so I'm guess you'll be fine!0
